Scout Picks

The Scout Picks – New for 2015/16

Having experimented with a new system for the Scout Picks last season, once again, we’re tweaking the setup for the forthcoming season – hopefully for the better.

We’re still giving you, the Fantasy Football Scout community, the opportunity to get involved and take on our lineup.

We have, however, decided to scrap the weekly vote which, at times, could sometimes result in spam comment posting and the occasional exploit.

Instead, we’re turning to a lottery to select a community member to select their picks in each Gameweek.

If you wish to submit a Scout Picks squad and be the community’s champion in the forthcoming Gameweek, you’ll need to submit your details via this form.

Twenty-four hours later we’ll announce the selected champion and he/she will then have until Thursday afternoon to submit their picks.

This will then go head-to-head with our squad, which will be selected using the old traditional method of argument and discussion behind the scenes – at which point I’ll put my foot down and pick Leighton Baines regardless. So there will only be one set of Scout Picks from us this season.

We’re also planning a couple of new articles, centred around the Scout Picks.

We’ll bring you a Provisional Scout Picks selection on Tuesday detailing our early thinking. This article will also be used to announce the community champion for that week.

We’re also planning a new ad-hoc article that will reveal some of the discussion and tension going on behind the scenes, as a way of letting you get a view of our own selection process and any particular dilemmas in a given Gameweek.

Then, on Friday, you’ll get the final Scout Picks from us and your champion.

We’re still offering a prize alongside this process. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

How Do I Get Involved?

Would-be community “Champions” must put themselves forward by submitting their details on the Scout Picks Champion Entry form.

We will create a community article on Monday each week to announce that applications are open and link to the form.

An applicant will be chosen at random the following day and announced in our Provisional Picks article.

The successful community “Champion” must supply their final Scout Picks XI to Jonty (jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) by 3pm on Thursday of that week. They have the option to tweak their Picks until 3pm on Friday.

Community Champions may seek the help and advice of others on the site once announced.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager”, chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

What do I need to do if I become the Community Champion?

You must select an Fantasy Premier League squad of 11 players in any valid FPL formation and using the regular FPL rules – eg: only three players per team permitted.

We will set a budget for your XI. Initially, this will be 82.5 and will increase as the season progresses and prices rise.

You may consult with the community in order to gain advice on building your Scout Picks for the Gameweek.

You do not need to submit any test to accompany your Picks but we may use a contribution should you wish to submit up to 200 words.

How Will the Scout Picks Be Scored?

We will total up the FPL points for both our Scout Picks and the community’s Picks.

No captain will be applied.

No chips will be applied.

Are there any other rules?

Yes there are. Plus, we reserve the right to make up some more along the way once we get started.

For now, we’re stipulating the following:

  • Community Champion Nominations must be registered users on Fantasy Football Scout and must not be under moderation at the time.
  • Scout Picks cannot be posted as a nomination on behalf of another user.
  • Nominees must be willing to supply a valid email address for contact throughout the selection process.
  • Any nominee or Champion voted by the community, who is later put under moderation, will not be considered for that Gameweek.
  • We reserve the right to change and overrule the selection of the chosen Community Champion at anytime.

We are now accepting applications for Gameweek 1 so head over to the entry form if you fancy getting your name in the hat.

You have until 2pm on Tuesday to get your application submitted.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I know it's difficult to predict but I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

How many points do you reckon these players will have at the end of the season:

    A) Lens
    B) Payet
    C) Andre Ayew
    D) Jay Rodriguez
    E) Pedro (If he moves to Man Utd)

I can't help but feel like I'm spending too much on defence should I change mangala for baker and have some money left for an injury?

UFPL - Teams playing Sunday or Monday.

    LIV - 8
    TOT - 8
    ARS - 6
    SOT - 6
    CPL - 5
    MCI - 5
    WHM - 4
    NEW - 4
    MUN - 4
    WBA - 4
    EVE - 4
    NOR - 4
    SWA - 4
    SUN - 4
    CHE - 3
    AVL - 3
    BOU - 3
    STO - 2
    WAT - 2
    LEI - 1

    Side note:
    - Schmeichel, Schwarzer & Mignolet looks the best goalkeeper trio to go with. Leicester only have one fixture which is on a SUN/MON, which means you can play them on a Saturday and then bring in Mignolet for his SUN/MON fixture if he has one. The one time Leicester do play on a SUN/MON, Liverpool play on the Saturday. Which means you can rotate between the two 9 times out of the first 14 Gameweeks (that's the last Gameweek that's been sorted into SAT/SUN/MON.) Also, if you had 0.5 left over and did Schwarzer > Ruddy, you could cover 11 out of the first 14 Gameweeks.

Nice work, thanks! Didn't realise that October and November fixtures were out - this surely warrants a good bit of tinkering and planning.

Of course, we do get 16 free transfers to use in August, so there's some merit in setting yourself up for the first few weeks. Messing about with goalkeepers is probably not going to be worthwhile, though.

I've currently got Guzan and Stekelenburg in goal, as with Villa playing on Friday in GW2, Stekelenburg can come off the bench for him in all four of the opening gameweeks.

Also, bear in mind that Southampton and West Ham qualifying for the Europa League group stages would see some more of their matches moved to a Sunday. Same goes for Manchester United if they lost their Champions League playoff.

No worries - will go Hazard first week and take it from there.

Seeing as I'm here may aswell rate your team 🙂

GK - a lot of faith in Myhil as not expecting Hennessy to start - for .5 you could have a valid rotation option.

Defence - Don't think Gomez or any 4.0 will be regulars so you'll be left with Shaw // Mert // Huth every week. Strong enough but if one has a tricky game or doesn't play for any reason it's dropped points. Would potentially look at saving money on Shaw and upgrading one of Gomez or 4.0.

Mid - Nice very similar to mine. I like Mane but at 8.0 he's just .5 away from a whole host of exciting 8.5 players - might be something to consider.

Attack - very nice - expect Wilson to do well, it's a punt but could come off, has the start to flourish anyways.

Hazard is priced kindly if you are expecting 230+ points from him.
He may start the season slow, but should still be amongst top 3-4 mids after GW10.

Aguero is more injury prone and declines in a 2 striker formation at man city. Still he is a very good striker and captaincy option when fit but certainly not essential.

I'd much rather get 11.5m hazard than 13m aguero.

    Sergio Aguero fact-file:

2011-12 Moves to Manchester City from Atletico Madrid on 28th July. Never plays in pre-season (for either team). Comes off the bench in GW1 to score two and get an assist against Swansea in a Monday night game.

2012-13 Plays throughout pre-season. Stretchered off after 13 mins in GW1

2013-14. Never plays in pre-season due to a knee injury. Scores GW1 v Newcastle

2014-15. Returns late from World Cup and never plays in pre-season. Comes off the bench in GW1 to score v Newcastle

2015-16 Sergio Aguero returns late from Copa America and never plays in pre-season. Citeh open their season on a Monday night.

gets frustrated, elbows chester going for a header, straight red 3 game ban..conveniently when wildcards are planning to be played

probably mane, milner, hendo. tough price bracket as for .5 more you can open up to arsenal/man utd mids etc.

Bad idea to start with both Giroud and Walcott?

Yes. I think the Ox will start GW1 after his performance in the CS, and it will be one or the other out of Walcott and Giroud up front (most likely Theo imo).

probably, spread the risk a little more. id avoid both until you know where they stand in wenger's plans

Am I the only one who thinks Arsenal won't keep a clean sheet against a promising looking West Ham side?

Payet and Sakho could cause some damage. Thoughts?

yep, loads of pre season hype, win the CS then get beat by West Ham at home - can just see it

Hmm, so 3 games they were unable to keep a clean sheet. Maybe one will be against West Ham. Interesting statistic nonetheless though

    I guess I surprised myself ..
Wanted to see if mane were to enter the team

    Koscielny ----> mertesecker
    Williams ----> francis
    Fonte -----> oshea
    Butland -----> Rudd...not ruddy rudd

And finally Ki -----> mane ...

He just killed my back line
    ...Southampton murderer! ...stay out

How's this? 3-5-2 for gw1 due to Sakho being at the Emirates.

    Ruddy Butland
    Ivan Kosc Huth (Coates)(4.0

      Rooney Kane (Sakho)

I think I'd rather stick with one 4.5 keeper, and then upgrade your 4.0 defender to a 4.5.

    Rooney Benteke Pelle

I have to finalise my team now due to (possibly) no wifi for the next week, here's one last RMT:

    Butland - Hennessy
    Cedric - Huth/Oshea - Francis/Bassong
    Haz - Ozil - Mane - Milner - Fletcher
    Aguero - Rooney - Deeney

    Thoughts on this attack-heavy team?

Thoughts on sterling / depay? Depay should be first in line for frees and seeing how well he did last year at PSV i have high hopes for him this year. i have sterling in at the moment but could free up 0.5 by switching which could help in planning for Aguero GW4.

I'm wondering why no love for Camerone Jerome here... Cheap, decent fixtures, had some moments in top flight... Still Deeney and Wilson a lot higher in picking order... Why?

Yup.. ppl say he has done horribly in the EPL but i did some reseatch the other day(ad made a post).. something like an attacking return once every 3 games in the EPL on average. not bad at all
