The Big Numbers – Midfielders – Last Four Gameweeks

After delving into the Gameweek 5-8 data for Defenders yesterday afternoon, we now set our sights on the midfielders. Arsenal’s in-form duo arrive under analysis, whilst we also cast an eye over City and West Ham’s summer signings and analyse the recent displays of Southampton’s wide men as the fixtures turn in their favour.

    Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Argentina in the 2-0 World Cup qualifying defeat by Ecuador.

    Aguero, who scored five goals in City's win against Newcastle on 3 October, was carried off after 22 minutes.

    The 27-year-old is set to have a scan and looks likely to miss Argentina's game against Paraguay next week.

    Aguero had only just returned to fitness after a knee injury earlier in the season.

    A statement on the City website said: "The striker pulled up holding his left hamstring while chasing a long ball downfield."

    The Premier League leaders are next in action against Bournemouth on 17 October.

    Kun injury .. Standard man. I really do hate international duty
    If it's only a week then a will definitely bench him.

      I hit the WC in GW4 tbh. But definitely keeping a hold of him as long as he has not torn it.

        I still have mine and not using it because 1 player is out for 1 week.

        If its serious, I might just suck it up and take a hit.

    Has Aguero had hamstring problems in the past, or is it always a knee issue (or other issue)? If the former, how long was he out injured for with his hamstring?

    And anyone seen any footage of his injury?

    if aguero's out long term, I'm getting rid of him and shelvey for either:

    A) kane + walcott

      When hes on his game, like at Chelsea, hes one of the best in the league. On his day. Guess just needs consistency now.

      Next? A solid season and i think any Prem club would be interested.

      Great player and great value in FPL imo but he is too erratic to be able to slot into most of the top teams imo. His performances are often hit and miss, and he goes on and off the boil a lot. He lacks consistency really. If he can play the way he has been recently on a consistent basis then yes, I agree.

        He's barely completed a full season here and I feel the whole Southampton team is a bit inconsistent. It's what separates them from the top

        Both Pelle and Mane might move to the next club with major cash infusions. Valencia maybe

    Manè could be an excellent contender for the captaincy option v Leicester. Leicester are a very attacking team and Manè could get them on the counter, explosive player and is on top form. Huth and Morgan won't be able to keep up with him. O

      let's not go overboard yet, he could be crying because he thinks he'll miss their next match which is even more important after they lost at home this time

      I've always said Messi, but if you were to ask me which of those two players I'd rather have play for England, it would be Ronaldo, as I think, as Fergie said, he can slot into any team, which Messi couldn't. But I'd take Messi at Arsenal, obviously.

      Messi imo. Ronaldo a better goalscorer, Messi a better all round player

    Is it wrong to hope Aguero's injury is serious ?

    I'm on wildcard (so no point hit) and support Bournemouth (A slight better chance of getting a result)

      You can hope for it to be minor if you only want him to miss one game??? he'd prob miss the game even if there's the smallest of doubt behind his fitness with UCL and the Derby coming up after

      I find it's all about a balance, depends entirely on who strikes form and potential price rises just before it.

      Personally i'm happy to take a hit - #1 in my main league and top 40k yet i've taken a few hits but managed to get my selling value upto 101.7 - Allowing that 5th mid to be a 7m odd player rather than a 5.5m 🙂

    Team is:

    Butland, McCarthy
    Kolarov, Dawson, Gomez, Nyom, Francis
    Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mane, Mahrez
    Aguero, Igahlo, Graham

    Already used my FT.

    Assuming Aguero is out, what should I do?

    A) Aguero + Gomez -----> Costa/Pelle/Lukaku + Bertrand (-8)
    B) Aguero + Graham -----> Costa/Pelle/Lukaku/Sturridge/etc and play AOA (-8)
    C) Aguero -----> Costa/Pelle/Lukaku and play Francis (mci) (-4)
    D) Gomez -----> Bertrand (-4) and deal with Aguero next week.

          Plymouth Argyle.

          But United were the first team I saw live as a young boy and I've been attached since. I've always played with them on Ultimate Soccer Manager 98/99 and other games. They're my secondary team.

    Butland
    Kolarov Dawson Azpi
    Sanchez Silva Payet Mahrez
    Kun* Pelle Vardy

    Subs: Evans Wanyama Gomez

    IF kun is out:
    A. Kun to Lukaku for -4
    B. Let Evans play and do transfer next week for free.

    If Aguero is out for any length of time is it worth doing Mahrez + Aguero > Hazard + Lukaku -4?
