Scout Scribbles – De Bruyne Nets in City Stalemate

Kevin de Bruyne is amongst the goals again as Man City share the spoils with PSG. Roberto Firmino returns to training ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Dortmund, Andre Ayew could be back for Swansea this weekend, whilst Stoke are handed mixed injury news prior to Sunday’s trip to Anfield.

City salvage point in Paris

Manchester City secured a precious 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League quarter-final, affording them a slight advantage heading into the second leg. Manuel Pellegrini fielded a full-strength XI, deploying Kevin De Bruyne in “the hole” behind Sergio Aguero once again. The former Wolfsburg starlet opened the scoring, while Fernandinho bagged a goal and assist. Joe Hart also delivered the goods on his return from injury, saving Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s penalty in the 14th minute.

The Scout Says: With two goals in as many starts since vacating the treatment room, De Bruyne has reaffirmed his status as the Sky Blues’ premier midfield pick ahead of a favourable quartet of ties (WBA, che &new, STO) over the next three Gameweeks. Encouragingly, De Bruyne was afforded 77 minutes last night – as opposed to 56 minutes against Bournemouth on Saturday – which highlights that Pellegrini is quickly allowing him the chance to build up his match sharpness ahead of City’s double. Given that Nicolas Otamendi (6.5) appears to be the only safe starter in the Sky Blues’ back line, the fit-again Hart (5.6) serves as their value source of defensive coverage for a stretch brimming with clean-sheet potential.

Firmino returns to training for Reds

Roberto Firmino played a full part in Liverpool training last night ahead of their Europa League clash against Borussia Dortmund this evening.

The Scout Says: In the event that Firmino is afforded a decent run-out at the Westfalenstadion, some Gameweek 33 wildcarders might be tempted to re-assess their Liverpool attacking coverage. Owing to Firmino’s hamstring issue, Philippe Coutinho (two goals in two) emerged as the prime route into the Reds’ squad – indeed, he currently ranks third among all players for “transfers in” (60,000) this Gameweek. However, the former boasts a superior key-pass frequency (one every 41 minutes to 49 minute) shot accuracy (40% compared to 28%) and shot-conversion rate (17% to 8%) than his Brazilian teammate, illustrating his greater efficiency in the final third. Ultimately, both men represent strong selections in light of Liverpool’s double Gameweeks 34 (bou &EVE) and 37 (WAT & CHE) and absence of a blank, which hands them a plum home clash with Newcastle in Gameweek 35.

Ayew close to Swans comeback

Having returned to full training following an ankle injury, Andre Ayew looks in line to be fit for Chelsea’s visit on Saturday.

The Scout Says: Although he’s expected to immediately return to Francesco Guidolin’s starting XI, Ayew will struggle to claim any level of Fantasy interest over the run-in. The Swans’ brutal run-in (CHE, new, lei, LIV, whu, MCI) and lack of a double Gameweek encourages us to disregard their Fantasy prospects and turn to those with doubles instead. That being said, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s 9% ownership might feel inclined to retain the form midfielder (eight goals in 13) until Swansea face off against Newcastle’s obliging defence in Gameweek 34.

Mixed news for Potters

Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen confirmed that Ryan Shawcross and Xherdan Shaqiri could be passed fit for their trip to Liverpool on Sunday:

“From Ryan’s point of view going into the weekend … we are now on Wednesday, the players have a day’s rest tomorrow and we’ll see how he is on Friday with one eye to the game at Liverpool. Shaq has trained again this week so we’re delighted with that. He seems to have come through ok and I definitely think with him, if he gets no reaction, he’ll be in the frame to start against Liverpool.”

Bowen also revealed that Geoff Cameron sat out training due to illness and Glenn Whelan is struggling with back spasms:

“Glenn hasn’t trained for the last two days. He came out of the game on Saturday and came in on Monday full in spasm with his back. I’m not a physiotherapist but I think at this stage, it’s one of those, it could settle down very quickly but if it carries on the way it is he is a major doubt for the weekend.”

The Scout Says: In appreciation of the Potters’ tough upcoming trio of match-ups (liv, TOT, mci) and lack of a double Gameweek, their Fantasy assets have disappeared off our radar. Nonetheless, Shawcross’ return to action could tighten up a defence that managed just one clean sheet in the eight fixtures he’s missed this year. On that topic, Stoke have surrendered just five goals in the seven home fixtures that their captain has started, which is food for thought for Harry Kane and Dele Alli before Spurs’ trip to the Britannia Stadium in Gameweek 34.

Whenever suits your team. Who do you want to TC? If its a player in 34 which you dont have then no harm in WCn now

Depends when you want to use your TC. Lukaku this week, Sanchez next, or maybe Payet 37. Sanchez would be my pick, but you would have an advantage the closer you WC to 34 deadline.

'Stalemate' feels a bit harsh for a 2-2, I normally only apply it to goalless draws.

Help me solve my selections for the upcoming GW33

    Robles (Wat/Cry)

Bellerin (Whu) Fuchs (Sun) Sagna (Wba)

Firmino (Stk) De Bryune (Wba) Mahrez (Sun) Payet (Ars)

Aguero (Wba) Kane (Mun) Lukaku (Wat/Cry)

Subs: Cech (Whu) Ali (Mun) Daniels (Avl) Targett (New)

    1. Sagna may be a rotation risk with Zabaleta. Should I keep him in and if he doesn't play, Daniels will be the auto sub, or should I put in Daniels since he is playing Avl?

    2. Arsenal play West Ham, this may be their last 'difficult' game for a while. Should I bench Bellerin?

    2.Firmino or Ali?

    3. If Firmino is in the team, Ali or Daniels as 1st sub?

4.Man City are flat track bullies and have put 3 or 4 goals past weaker teams at home this season. Lukaku is the safe option. Captain De Bruyne an option? Hat-trick incoming?

Completely stumped on my team. WC'd in 32 but went Bellerin, Gabriel and Ozil. Now, of course, I'm bricking it as I don't have Sanchez and my rivals do (and will almost certainly TC him in 34)

    So.......

    1) Ozil to Sanchez and C him in 34 (BB) cost -4
    2) reshape the 'arsenal3' and go with Bellerin > Sanchez, costing -8
    3) fill the chuck out and stick to the original plan - Sanchez won't score much more than Ozil in the DGW

3.) Hold. I'm in the same boat. If you feel the same in a weeks time then go to...

1.) May be worth it, and by then you will see how may rivals have brought him in too. You should have 2fts by then if you're playing it like me too, though it seems slightly wasteful at this stage to do a straight-swap.

      and

Ramsey will be back and Arsene is virtually guaranteed to rotate/change the tactics across the next 3 weeks.

    Fantasy Football Scout

    Who are you bench boosting?

For those looking at bench boosting a newly wildcarded team in Gameweek 34 exactly who is it that you are bench boosting and what is your realistic points hope.

To get the ball rolling here’s mine

    Robles – Lingard – Gabriel – Delaney

For me my realistic hope for any bench boost is to beat my worst bench haul this season. That came in Gameweek 11 when I left 24 points on my bench. This included 15 points from Mahrez and a clean sheet from Joel Ward.

I think that given all my bench have two games (well, in theory they do) I have a minimum hope of 16 for them all just to turn up. A clean sheet and assist would take me close and any more on top would be something I'd be happy with.

Anything less than 16 should rightly be considered a bench boost fail.

So who are you bench boosting?
What was your worst bench score this season that you want to beat?
What is your realistic points hope for your bench boost.

I'm not looking at it as a straight bench boost, as these players enable the rest of the dgw side, especially Robles and Ward who are double-doubles but, depending on the player order:

      Robles, Mahrez, Azpi, Ward
      8 + 10 + 9 + 4

Worst bench = 27 points with Arnie, Azpi and Simmo, GW19
Hopes from those players for GW34 = 31 points.

    16. Kun Tozser
      • 9 Years

      Will be benching

      Cech, Kun, Sanchez, Payet

But realistically the players who will get points who I wouldn't play are

      Robles, Simpson, Apz, Klose - only expecting 4, 2, 2, 6 = 14 points

My historical PB high was 24 points in GW 11

So a bit rubbish and I would actually save the BB but in GW37 I'll have 3 Arsenal players so may as well

I've benched 24 points 3 times in the last 10 weeks! Was a absolute horror run! Boosting Darlow, Jagielka, Sakho, Lanzini. Would like to beat that 24

        As it stands:

        Robles, Lanzini, Gabriel, Simpson

I'd have to go some to beat my highest bench total (30 in GW16), when I benched a CS and bonus/save points from Hennessey, a CS and 3 bonus from Nyom, and a goal by Dawson. I had a spell of benching 99 points in 5 weeks (GW16-20), so I have form! Considering it will be 14 points for me if they just turn up, I'm hoping for 25+.

I feel your pain, I've also benched around the same figure too in the same time frame.

        * Not that I still have mine, but I would say anything less than 20 is a failure.

        * I've hit double figure (10 or more) bench points in 14, of my 'regular' GWs so far this season.

        * My top three scores 23, 22, 19.

        * I used my BB chip after consistently hitting double figures from my bench I grew tired of all the wasted bench points;

        GW10 - 12
        GW11 - 22
        GW13 - 17
        GW15 - 23
        GW16 - 11
        GW18 - 19
        GW20 - 14
        GW21 - 11
        GW22 - BB chip activated - grand total of 3!!! 🙁

        Just for an extra kick in the teeth, the next 2GWs followed on like;

        GW23 - 12
        GW24 - 16

He makes a good point. I'll be triple capping Sanchez as well, and I'm hoping to get 20+ (x3) points from him. If we get that, that will allow us to comfortably compete with the bench boosters who wildcarded in 32/33, provided that we have suitably planned to have near 11 dgwers.

So the question is, will the people who are bench boosting in gw34 pick a triple capper who can compete with a gw37 bench boost (and vice-versa)?

I'm looking at doing the same. You also have to factor in the advantage of having Kane, Mahrez and Leicester D for gw33 and 35.

...but if Bench Boost did not exist then I would have selected a stronger starting eleven, and weaker benchers.
For example, it would require fewer compromises to fit Sanchez and De Bruyne into our starting elevens if we did not also want all fifteen members of our squads to contribute towards the bench boost.
The immediate value of Bench Boost should therefore be the difference between the points scored by our fifteen-man squads and the points that would have been scored by the stronger starting elevens that we could have selected instead.
The longer-term value is more difficult to calculate, since our squads for DGW34 also have to allow for other game-weeks including the blanks in GW35 and the later double in GW37.
And how much did those who played their Bench Boost chip early score when they played them? Looking at some of the overall leaders, the current OR1 scored only 7 points from his in GW22 (or 6 if he had benched Zouma instead of Fuchs), and the current OR3 scored 12 from his in GW11 (or 5 if he had benched his lowest-scoring players), but the current OR2 has not yet played his major chips.

"What was your worst bench score this season that you want to beat?"

That would be the 32 pts on my bench in Gwk 3...(A wilson hat-trick being the biggest part of that, with 17pts just on his own)

        Worst Bench mistake: GW16: Hennessey 8, Ward 8, Dawson 7, Stanislas 7 = 30

        BB (minimum/hope):
        Robles (5/8)
        Delaney (4/7)
        Lovren (8/12)
        Lanzini (5/12)

So minimum I'm expecting is 22, and with a lot of luck I can hope for 39....

Man United have only managed 50 shots on target at home his season, the same number as WBA. Spurs on the other hand have had 128 SoT at home.

Will Martial outscore Kane even with two plumb home fixtures?

I think yes. Purely due to their fixtures

Probably. Because Spurs aren't playing at home.

Home this week, then away. And still 88 SoT away

Home game against Villa, I would say yes.

They looked decent and unleashed in the second half last week. I can see some goals if they are allowed to do that again

No. Get Martial for Aguero or Lukaku in GW34

They both have DGW's as well though. Lukaku's gw34 fixtures aren't appealing but still not sure about that one

Bu gotta punt on ManU vs Villa and CPL at home, surely? Just use an FT to get Luka back for GW37.

Ahhh, my question has been lost on the last post too. So....

Ok... I'm gonna try this again, since I noticed the lack of a DGW with Hart/Darlow is probably a deal-breaker. So...

      Rotation with Mignolet:
Gomes: STK*, bou EVE* wba whm, NEW, AVL, liv nor, SUN
Darlow: STK*, bou EVE* CPL WBA, NEW, NOR, WAT CHE*, AVL

      Rotation with Hart:
Gomes: WBA*, che new* wba whm (BB), STK*, AVL, liv nor, SUN
Darlow: WBA*, che new* CPL WBA (BB), STK*, NOR, ARS*, AVL

      * Asterisks are the expensive keeper fixtures within the rotation.

      A) Mignolet & Gomes
      B) Mignolet & Darlow
      C) Hart & Gomes
      D) Hart & Darlow

      Let's get your views....:)

          Haha! I know 😛

Thought I'd get more opinions if I posted on the new article.

          I was mistaken. 😆

Why do you think LVG would bench Darmian after helping grind out cleanies?

There's no such thing, and good GW35 coverage with FT's, crackin'.
