Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery – Part Two

Welcome to the second of our Rate My Wildcard Team articles of the week. These will showcase the thoughts of one of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors team on their Wildcard. Hopefully some of their key issues will mirror your own. Feel free to use this article thread to put forward your Wildcard teams and to help others with their Wildcard-related issues. Jonty presented his wildcard thoughts earlier in the week and next up is Andy85wsm with his all-out assault on Gameweek 34.

My Wildcard Team

Robles – Darlow
Smalling – Bellerin – Gabriel – Sakho – Delaney
Sanchez – KDB – Lanzini – Bolasie – Coutinho
Mitrovic – Aguero – Lukaku

Strategy

I plan to use my Gameweek 33 Wildcard to set me up with 15 players for Gameweek 34, when I will use my bench boost. The reason I’m wildcarding now is that my pre-Gameweek 33 team is not set up for the doubles at all with only Sergio Aguero and Dimitri Payet as decent options. For Gameweek 37 I will use my triple captaincy chip.

Key Issues

The De Bruyne Sacrifice

By bringing in Kevin De Bruyne alongside Sergio Aguero I have a huge amount of cash tied up in an erratic Manchester City attack, that plays away from home twice. Am I sacrificing too much by focusing so much cash in just two players?

Lack of Leicester and Spurs

In constructing my Wildcard team I’m waving goodbye to Kasper Schmeichel, Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Harry Kane. This is a scary prospect considering most have performed exceptionally well in recent weeks and all have a great Gameweek 35 fixture.

Sakho’s Inconsistency

Mamadou Sakho played like a schoolboy against Spurs in Gameweek 32, but like a seasoned warrior against Manchester United in the Europa League. Has he made too many mistakes to be considered nailed on in the Liverpool defence? Or will his excellent performances keep him in the first XI?

Regrets for Payet

Dimitri Payet is undoubtedly West Ham’s prize asset with his free kicks as good as penalties given his accuracy. Will I regret going for second best with Manuel Lanzini?

Mitrovic’s starts

Seeing Mitrovic benched against Norwich at the weekend looked ominous. He then came on to score a brace, including a penalty. He looks nailed on for now, but is he?

From the Sublime to the Ridiculously Dull

Yannick Bolasie represents a real maverick punt for the double Gameweek 33 for Crystal Palace. But keeping him for the London side’s next double in Gameweek 34 is a bridge too far for me. Instead I plan to swap him out for a player that is much maligned as the poster boy for dullards – James Milner. Is this the best use of that slot, or should I stick with Bolasie?

    Thoughts appreciated......

    Using my WC this week.

    Therefore, GW 33:

    Hart
    Bellerin-Fuchs-Moreno-Targett
    Coutinho-KDB-Mahrez-Barkley
    Agûero-Lukaku(C)

Bench: De Gea, Koschielny, Iwobi, Rashford

Should I put Moreno on the bench and go for Koschielny? Or should I go for Iwobi instead of Moreno and play 3-5-2?

    GW: 34: Using my benchboost:

    De Gea
    Bellerin-Koschielny-Fuchs
    Coutinho-KDB-Iwobi-Barkley
    Agûero-Lukaku-Rashford

    Bench: Hart, Targett, Moreno, Mahrez

IMO that team needs work, so many rotation risks there.

      Rashford when Rooney is back
Iwobi now Walcott, Ramsey and Santi are back
Targett only plays now and again
Moreno the weekest of Livepools back line and likely to rotate with Flanagan

I think you need to downgrade one of your keepers and reinvest some of those funds.

To answer your question of Kosc vs Moreno though, play Moreno and hope he starts. Their defence is poor, but Arsenal away to West Ham won't be a clean sheet IMo.

    What do we think?

    A. Mitrovic and Darmian (or someone else)
    B. Defoe and Smalling

I have a good feeling about Defoe, especially in the big games. I already have a full 11 of DGW for 34, so he can sit on the bench there and play in 37.

Defoe - Smalling seems more solid. Useful too if Defoe help you to have 11 player in gw 35.

Help needed please! I thought I had my 15 all sorted but then KDB throws a right spanner in the works by coming back on top form!

My 15 for GW34 was this:

    DDG Robles
    Bellerin Clyne Delaney Fuchs Smalling
    Coutinho Iwobi Mahrez Payet Sanchez
    Aguero Lukaku Martian

But if I want to accommodate KDB it boils down to:
KDB Sakho Rashford v Mahrez Clyne Martial - former more explosive, latter more solid - any thoughts most welcome!

    Hart // Robles
    Bellerin // Darmian // Gabriel // Simpson // Souaré
    Sanchez//De Bruyne//Coutinho*//Payet//Lingard
    Aguero//Lukaku//Mitrovic

    0.0 ITB

Souré a bit of a risk, but don't have the 0.1 for Delaney. Don't expect many points from either of them tbh.

No Liverpool defender but not fussed.

Think Darmian is more secure than you guys think.

May also go for Firmino over Coutinho

    What do we think?

    GW:33 and GW 34(Benchboost)
    4-4-2, without Agûero :o. Better?

    Hart
    Bellerin-Simpson-Sakho-Fuchs
    Coutinho-KDB-Mahrez-Ôzil
    Kane-Lukaku(C)

      Rashford isn't risky?

You have 5 non double gw players. Not sure it is a good idea for BB...

First and last RMWC post for me 🙂

    Darlow/Robles

    Bellerin - Clichy - Clyne - Gabriel - Delaney

    Sanchez - Payet - Coutinho - Mahrez - Lingard

    Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

    (0.2 ITB) My doubts:

Should I change Kane and Mahrez? I think that they come useful in the next GW. The only alternative that I see is Martial on Kane and Milner on Lingard, not sure that it is better.

    Clichy or Mangala?

Double Everton defense seems too. What about a Mcity defender on Jagielka?

Midfield seems very good tos me, goalkeeper are a classic and attack is solid if you value Mitrovic (or the waiter...).

Personally, I would try coutinho at the place of de Bruyne (for me he will be rotated, expecially now that they may beat PSG) and use the cash to improve Milner (or Jagielka into Smalling?). You can even put Lanzini on Bolaise to get even more founds.

Trying to hold on to one of Alli or Kane over DGWs. Would appreciate any feedback on the following options:

    Robles* | (Mignolet)
    Delaney* | Bellerin | Simpson | (Gabriel) | (Darmian*)
Sanchez | Coutinho | De Bruyne | Lanzini* | (Lingard*)
    Aguero | Lukaku* | Kane
    0.0£ ITB

    OR

    De Gea* | (Darlow)
    Delaney* | Bellerin | Simpson | (Gabriel) | (Clichy)
Sanchez | Coutinho | De Bruyne | Payet* | Alli
    Aguero | Lukaku | (Rashford*)
    0.1£ ITB

    OR

    De Gea* | (Darlow)
    Delaney* | Bellerin | Simpson | (Gabriel) | (Clichy)
Sanchez | Coutinho | De Bruyne | Lanzini* | Alli
    Aguero | Lukaku | (Martial*)
    0.5£ ITB

GW33 subs are in (brackets); GW34 Benchboost will be triggered; (*) don’t play in GW35 but will have one or two FTs by then.
