The Numbers Game – 2015/16 Review – Klopp’s Liverpool

Our series of members’ articles, which review the statistics behind the previous season, now focuses on Liverpool.

First up, we cast an eye over the Reds’ team statistics under new manager Jurgen Klopp and compare them to the rest of Premier League over his period in charge, before delving into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

After steering Liverpool to sixth spot in 2014/15, Brendan Rodgers lasted just eight matches of the following season before parting company with the Merseyside club. The Reds had started brightly enough, winning both their opening fixtures before a run of one victory in the subsequent six – at home to Villa – saw the Irishman replaced by Jurgen Klopp at the helm.

The Reds’ progress to both the Capital One Cup and Europa League finals ultimately proved fruitless and with the German keen to rotate, Liverpool could only manage an eighth-place finish, ending the campaign 21 points behind champions Leicester.

        Could be a nice cheap 5th mid

        Played super in Liverpool's last game. Had two goal-scoring chances, scored one of them and won a penalty in 45 minutes.

          Firmino as false 9, with Coutinho & Mane behind him (don't forget Lallana), more effective than any one of those CFs.
          Klopp went false 9 Firmino over a fit Sturridge on a few occasions, and Sturridge is ahead of Origi and Ings in the pecking orders

      It may be an advantage for Chelsea as Conte will have some time to rebuild the squad. Liverpool, however, not much. They have a good depth already(which is bad). Chelsea would get rid of the deadwood and the players were so lazy last time, rebuilding is on the cards.
