The Numbers Game – 2015/16 Review – Klopp’s Liverpool

Our series of members’ articles, which review the statistics behind the previous season, now focuses on Liverpool.

First up, we cast an eye over the Reds’ team statistics under new manager Jurgen Klopp and compare them to the rest of Premier League over his period in charge, before delving into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

After steering Liverpool to sixth spot in 2014/15, Brendan Rodgers lasted just eight matches of the following season before parting company with the Merseyside club. The Reds had started brightly enough, winning both their opening fixtures before a run of one victory in the subsequent six – at home to Villa – saw the Irishman replaced by Jurgen Klopp at the helm.

The Reds’ progress to both the Capital One Cup and Europa League finals ultimately proved fruitless and with the German keen to rotate, Liverpool could only manage an eighth-place finish, ending the campaign 21 points behind champions Leicester.

Speaking about OoP players you think that this year in FPL those players positions will be:

    1. Blind, Valencia - defenders
    2. Dier, Martial, Sanchez, Son - midfielder
    3. Rooney, Firmino - attacker

(have I forgot about someone who played OoP last year?)

I think that Martial should be a mid and hope that Firmino stay mid what is most likely but I'm afraid that Roo will be att

Depends if towers got convinced by Morinho's comments. With Zlatan in the mix, I'm hopeful that they were.

      Where's Ayala?

        8 years, 3 months ago

I would like to think he will be here and starting at the back with Gibson however there are a few rumours round here that he might be off, I do hope he stays though. If he stays and plays he will be a great fantasy option.

Nsue had a great season last year and will definitely play a part but I can't see him bringing in Barragan and not playing him.

From a fantasy point of view I will play close attention to the friendlies closer to the season but the stand out players for me at this point would be (price dependent)

        Last seasons players:
Friend - likes to get forward, good for an assist as well as a clean sheet (hopefully)

Ayala (if he stays and plays) - He was a rock at the back last year and offers a great aerial threat from set pieces.

Ramirez - a total different players to the player we seen at Southampton, he loves to beat a man, his vision is superb, always looking to play the striker in but also scored some very good goals including great set pieces.

        New boys:
Fischer - His stats last season were very good and if he settles in quickly could potentially be a bargain

Negredo - everyone knows what he can do

I am hoping they are fairly priced in FPL.

I have seen a few people mention Downing, yes he was a good budget option for West Ham but he was pretty dreadful last seasonin the championship

I may go for Negredo as I have a bad history with Ramirez. But if Gaston is 5.0 that will be hard to resist

Sorry for having other things in life and not having special interests in the Championship, at the same time you, my sir, should pay more attention to the Premier League, being able to write a comment like that 😉 http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/07/12/moving-target-andros-townsend-2/?hc_page=8#hc_comment_13541044

I reckon they're an attacking team, but was wondering if that might change by coming to the Premier League.

      he was not his favourite,

guys has potential but Klopp doesn't like loaning people out, instead he put in a buy-back clause so if the guy turns out to be good we can just get him back, 15m is a very good deal for someone who has yet to prove themselves, the guy has potential for sure but with only domestic football Klopp needs a small squad and players like Ibe wouldn't see much game time and therefore wouldn't develop.

So are people going back a 3-4-3 formation with a bench fodder mid? I know last year the full 5 mids was popular but the seasons before that a bench fodder was the more common way to go.

I know we don't have prices, but will people who found success with a 5 man midfield be going with it again?

    1. MrMaverick
      • 8 Years

I'll look for a 4.5 mid who plays regularly, who has a chance of creating and scoring goals. If that's impossible, then I'll go for a bench fodder 4.5 midfielder.
