Captains

Captain Poll – Gameweek 15

Following his sixth double-digit Fantasy Premier League points haul of the season, Alexis Sanchez (11.5) is surely likely to be among the frontrunners to top the Gameweek 15 Captain Poll.

Already more than 145,000 FPL managers have drafted him in following his stunning hat-trick against a hapless West Ham defence on Saturday evening.

But his next opponents Stoke City may not be so obliging when they visit the Emirates, having conceded just eight goals in their seven away games.

Gunners team-mate Mesut Ozil (9.6) offers a strong alternative for those unable to afford the Chilean.

The 9% owned German’s goal and assist against the Hammers produced his third double-digit FPL points return of the campaign.

Interest in Theo Walcott (8.0) is likely to be muted following a dip in form that has seen him muster a solitary shot on target over his last four league matches. The 16.7% owned England winger did, however, score with that one attempt, in Gameweek 13.

Chelsea’s dynamic duo of Diego Costa (10.7) and Eden Hazard (10.4) are odds on to be the other leading contenders at the summit.

The 46.8% owned Spanish striker is already FPL’s most popular player and attacking points look likely when West Brom visit, given he has delivered in all bar two of his 14 Gameweeks.

The 35.6% owned Hazard may not boast the same consistency as Costa but his explosive potential and strong home form is surely set to garner plenty of votes. Three of his four FPL double-digit hauls have arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho (6.6) may get another opportunity to impress in Gameweek 15, with Sergio Aguero starting a four-match ban for his horror tackle on Chelsea’s David Luiz on Saturday.

A trip to a Leicester City side that has conceded eight times in their last four league matches offers the Nigerian starlet the chance to become a regular in the Captain’s Poll until Aguero’s return for Gameweek 19.

Backers of the 3.4% owned striker will be optimistic after he delivered a 20 point FPL return over two matches when he last deputised for the Argentinian.

Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) is another Manchester City player with the pedigree to step up. The 10.4% owned Belgian also did well during Aguero’s previous three-match ban, scoring 27 points over Gameweeks 4 and 5.

Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday looks tough to call and is likely to temper interest in their respective front men, Harry Kane (11.0) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.2).

Jose Mourinho’s troops have conceded just six goals and kept two clean sheets at Old Trafford, while Spurs are equally resilient on the road: they have also allowed just six goals and kept a pair of clean sheets on their travels.

A lacklustre attacking display against Bournemouth on Sunday is likely to curtail the popularity of Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino (8.8).

That was his third successive Gameweek blank, but with 14 goal attempts over the last four matches, Firmino may still be a shrewd captaincy pick against a West Ham outfit that has shipped 10 goals over their last three.

If he can recover from a knock sustained at the Vitality Stadium, Sadio Mane (9.3) may be the best option in Jurgen Klopp’s ranks. The Senegalese scored and assisted in Sunday’s defeat and has despatched a further five goals at Anfield.

Sunderland’s visit to Swansea offers a pair of strong differential contenders. For the home side, the 7.4% owned Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.4) has proved a consistent option, with at least a goal or assist in four of his last five matches.

Jermain Defoe (7.7) remains the visitors best armband option, scoring his eighth goal of the season at home to Leicester City on Saturday.

Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke (7.5) is another with form and the fixture to attract attention. He will be in search of his fifth goal in as many league outings this weekend and travels to a Hull City side that has conceded 12 goals at the KCOM Stadium. Five of the 7% owned Belgian’s seven goals have been scored in away matches.

    The alternative side:

For many, the "perfect" front 7 of Sanchez, Hazard, Firmino, Siggy - Costa, Kane, Austin/Defoe/Nacho/Benteke is unobtainable due to not getting Costa/Sanchez early enough to now afford it

as such, with a sluggish team value you can have this

    Alonso Mustafi Valencia
Sanchez Hazard Firmino Siggy Ali or Eriksen
    Costa/Kane Austin/Defoe etc (Anichebe)

basically - three big defenders and play a power midfield

this does mean you're exposed to Costa/Kane captain - but can cover the points in midfield whilst still keeping Sanchez and not having a cheap as chips defence

    thoughts?

this isn't my team (although it's close to it)

was just a look into what you can get

the point is you can't downgrade the defence easy to get in Kane or Costa - you need to down grade two defenders basically - so play with a 6 4.5 4.5 4.5 4 and a 4.5 in the middle to afford Kane AND Costa with a poor team value

Kane only worries me for two fixtures - after that I think Ibra is a better option anyway

i can afford a somewhat weaker hybrid, with my defense alright but my goalkeepers can only pick up save points

      pickford, grant
      walker, alonso, cedric, barragan, amat
      sanchez, hazard, siggy, zaha, can
      kane, costa, austin

i have doubts over my fourth midfielder but my defense rotates well and my attack is good.
      Thoughts?

    GW 15-17 rotation risks

Building on the super team discussion thread, we really need to also keep in mind the fact that we have 3 games within 7 days for the next three GWs – I think the super team template might need to be tweaked in the short-term given this scenario.

In my opinion, the below would be key risks for rotation:
    - Sanchez: Definitely the time period when the dreaded Wenger ‘Christmas rest’ remarks might come true
    - Austin: With Long fit again, I don’t think they expect Austin to play 90 minutes in all 3 matches
    - KDB/Sterling: I think we’ll see Gundo + Nolito + Sane taking a bit of the load here

Am I missing some obvious candidates out here?

Hazard, Costa, Liv mid, Siggy and Kane should all be above the rotation risk I my opinion, but there might be a curveball around here somewhere

TL;DR: The super-team template needs to be corrected for potential rotation risks, especially with Arsenal and Man City players

    Thoughts would be welcome! 🙂

Fair enough, but I have a feeling Ibra will play 90 for all 3.

His work-rate isn't that high to be honest, and Mourinho seemed to play him mid-week and on weekends in the Europa/EPL fixtures

Your final statement is the rather big elephant in the room.

Carroll is a bigger troll than any other player. Get him in for a prime run of fixtures, injured 12 minutes into first game, 3 months out.

He's the FPL-pain bait for sure.

Every season, we have 3 games when he goes berserk and by the time you get him in, he's done for the season. There is no way of predicting it, because he has NO stats.

Should just be a name in the goals imminent table throughout the season imo, with a footnote saying - 'Nobody knows when, but he will make you cry'

      Bottomed before.

Rotation will be a problem for:

Manchester City: Everywhere, especially in midfield. Nacho is their only striker now, but Pep can chance formation in order to rest him.

Tottenham: Full-backs. At least Walker should be rotated as they have done before. Rose could be ok if Davies stays unfit. I can also see at least one of the wingers getting a rest, more likely Son than Eriksen. Sissoko and Lamela (if fit) as cover.

Southampton: Austin and Long/Rodriguez. Maybe the full-backs too.

      Arsenal: Wally/Ox/Giroud/Ramsey rotation.

I can see rotation being leas of a problem for:

Chelsea: Nailed first-team. Maybe Pedro/Willian. No fatigue in the squad. And no cover in the wing back positions.

Liverpool: No fatigue and Klopp hasn't rotated this season. With Couts out Firmino and Mané should start all games. No decent back up for the back 4 as well.

Sunderland: No squad depth means Defoe will continue to play. They need him badly.

Swansea: You never know with Bradley but Siggy will be immune.

United: I think Mou is a coach who doesn't rotate much at all. Of cours there will be some rotation but the core will stay the same.

        Thanks!

I agree with your views on City, but I think a lack of pure strikers might make Pep happier than ever before - allows him to play only midfielders 🙂

Is it just me or does anyone else think Cedric will be rotated and miss a game? He was injured for a while and 4 games in just over a week is a lot of football when you have someone to cover in that position. I'm just avoiding him until after the midweek game I think. (the 4th game is the must win Europa league match against Hapoel)

I don't have him so never considered it to be honest

But i agree, in general, full backs might be at-risk with the number of games coming up - likely position up for rotation across teams who can afford to/have a decent replacement

Zaha maybe at a push, but they're all quite short term punts. Phillips in form but has tough fixtures. Milner an option but it's all on penalties really. Redmond flatters to deceive. Moses a great option, but annoying to miss out on defence points. Maybe look to downgrade elsewhere to raise funds a bit more. It's tricky...

I would say A just because Sanchez might get a rest or against Stoke don't forget they have CL midweek he might even be rested in that game which would be great news for owners

    Haz Firmino Walcott Sterling Clayton
    Costa Kane Austin

    A) Walcott Sterling > Sanchez + 5.1
    B) Sterling Firmino > Sanchez + 5.9 (Can maybe? Too late for Phillips i guess..)

Do i bench Eriksen or Fer this weekend?

I have Kane BTW, also have Defoe.

I wouldn't bench Defoe at all at the moment. Espcially against Swans who have conceded 9 in 2.

Check Eriksen's record against United, I'm sure its fairly good. Sunderland defense hasn't been too bad in recent week's.

So that tackle Kun made against Luiz.. I understand the 4 game ban due to a second ban. But that was a ruthless tackle and he could have ended a players career had he damaged his knee..he clearly did it with intent.
Surely it warrants a large fine and even a longer than 4 game ban?

Excellent call on Eriksen. I was hoping Kane and Walker was enough but having those two is an excellent link up. Kudos!

Did you get rid of Kun for Costa? Or Allen for Sanchez?

I did Allen for Sanchez and Kun for Austin, so kind of intrigued to know what you did!

I'd be looking to get rid of Stones next in terms of your team. See you have 0.5 itb, so maybe I'd look at either doubling up on Saints with Cedric?

I've done Kun for Costa and Firmino to Sanchez. I am not as bothered about losing Firm as some obviously.
Don't like Allen or Stones, so could go Can and Vert/Cedric next.

I do like Firmino. I will keep as he can always be in the mix, although he also has an annoying habit of blanking when they score 3+ goals. Nevermind. He'll repay me eventually // if he doesn't do anything in the next 2 games, he's out!

Yep, that sounds like a plan sir. I think Can is good value at 4.9 for a 4th midfield enabler - almost the "new Allen"

Already on -4... Would you make it -12 and bring in Can & Alonso?
Would be very happy with my team then - and look to save FT next week.

            Heaton - Pickford
            Vertonghen - Cedric - Evans - Friend - Amat
            Sanchez - Hazard - Firmino - Arnautovic - Capoue
            Kane - Costa - Austin

              No problem!

I don't know if it's worth the -4. I am personally playing Amat this week, so you don't need the defensive cover from Alonso to cope this week, assuming you're playing Vert and Cedric.

I don't think you need Can either quite yet. See what happens with Arnie - always the possibility of a penalty this year, and Stoke are our bogie team in recent history (though Saints have probably supplanted them now) so I can imagine a Stoke goal in that game.

              What were your moves?

                Walcott/Aguero > Sanchez/Costa (-4)

I know, logically, it's probably best not to do it - but this year seems to punish those who wait to make transfers while the players they want continuously score points.

If Arnie is actually injured (flagged atm) I'm doing it no doubt.

I understand that move - I know a lot have done it! Walcott was a big disappointment for many I know this weekend and they've consequently just gone to Sanchez instead for the explosive potential. I know I'm not alone in being really annoyed at bringing Sanchez in after a big explosion because the "skill" in being good at FPL is forseeing these things, not chasing points 🙁

I guess Arnie might be good gamble, that being said. Stoke are normally fired up against us, and I can see there being a Stoke goal given the fact they are on a good run with back to back clean sheets and victories.

OK, how many FT do you have, and what is your sale value on both Allen and Gundog?

I'd probably say keep Clyne. He has good fixtures, and is attacking as a full back, even if he is not returning points at the moment he inevitably has a 10+ pointer in stock.

If you have 5.0 SV on Allen like I did, I'd be tempted to look at maybe Fer if you don't already have Siggy, or Can at 4.9 seems to be becoming quite popular with the stats to back it up.

At that price, you aren't expecting a Sanchez-like haul every week. But, at 5.1, Fer has demonstrated he can occasionally nick the odd goal or even two - I don't think 5.1 is a bad price to pay at all for a player who could nab me ~10 points a game. With Swansea's strong fixtures that, to me, consist of opposition they'll think they can win against, it'll either be Fer or Siggy involved with every single goal judging by what's happened so far, so I don't think Fer is a bad call at all. I have Siggy, but I'd have been seriously looking at him otherwise.

                  Hope that helps!

If you dont mind helping me with this dilema

            Heaton
            Alonso Clyne PVA
            Sanchez Hazard Firmino Siggy
            Kane Austin Anichebe

Pickford Allen Amat Evans // £4.1m banked, 1FT

Do i bring in Costa for Austin? Soton have great fixtures but most are away and looking at their form they aren't impressing. However if Costa rises once more i will be priced out of doing it in one single transfer.

Or do i just leave as it is and look to possibly upgrade Allen next week?

              Not at all!

Very tough. You have my midfield, and I also have Kane and Austin.

With your current 3-4-3, you basically have a front 3 that reflects a 3-5-2. Anichebe should not be your first choice striker, given the alternatives you could have.

Anichebe - assuming 4.6 sale value for you - and Allen - 5.0? - out gives you ~13.1 to spend on two good players. I'd suggest getting de Roon in as a 4.3 bench filler, and then spending the remaining 8.8 on someone like Origi or Iheanacho who I think will be great differentials going forward. Origi at 6.5 might be a great call vs. an awful looking West Ham side this week.

              Hope that helps.

Thanks Individual! So maybe keep Austin in that case and ignore Costa? I still think both him and Anichebe are good value for the fixtures both have. I may just stick with Ani and upgrade Allen to fully commit to 3-5-2 as the strikers in that range are a bit iffy in terms of nailedness, though i like both Nacho and Origi.

                Thanks for the feedback!

I'm probably going to get Nacho - I still think City are a good team and people have kind of said "no Aguero so I'm not covering City" a bit too soon. I think that'll soon be a blind spot for many and I hope to be there wracking up the points with Nacho - Watford are shocking away and are playing there next midweek gameweek. Gotta have Nacho for that! Free bit of advice based on a hunch I have lol.

Yeah Allen to a 9.1 is great stuff as well mate. I'd be tempted to take a punt on Son, Alli or Eriksen for those 2 awesome Spurs fixtures with HUL BUR home, or even Payet/Antonio with BUR HUL next week.

Nacho would be my ideal striker of choice, would be good to see how Pep lines up this weekend, just worried of rotation, could even start a false 9 instead. Though with Leicester, Watford and Hull even a sub appearance could be a result! His points per minute is incredible!

Probably going to ignore Costa in that case and save the transfer, I fancy Ani at Swansea. Just worried because of the Aguero ban that everyone will now have Kane and Costa so it would be a blocking strategy, forever hoping on that illusion 5th yellow!

If Spurs continue their attacking game then Erikson/Alli could be huge

We both have Alonso and Hazard at least, so we have to hope that we can account for those that own one of Haz or Costa or those who have both. I think owning Alonso gives us a great chance.

Eriksen/Alli are on my list to come in - if Bobby keeps blanking the microscope may well fall on him...

                Hey bro,

I'd hold firm for now, that's the ideal front 3 and the ideal midfield. I am seriously jealous of you.

Leave it and reassess next week. I don't know how you'd finance Alonso in, but with Costa and Haz you have Chelsea more than covered.

@Individual. Cheers mate! Hits paid off because I got a high TV, which enable that front 7.

Could do Walker to Alonso for a hit this weel. I think Walker will miss Burnely at home in GW16 because of rotation. Leaves Hull at home as the only good fixture. Meanwhile Alonso won't get rotated... Maybe it's wise to wait until GW18 with Alonso.
May want to do Firmino > Eriksen or Austin > Nacho/Carroll next gw.

Yeah you have absolutely smashed it this year, I remember that inspired Hazard (c) for you which has absolutely made you this year. I need that moment still, I can't quite get it - I was considering taking the risk on Hazard (c) this week when most will be going Sanchez, but I can't ignore Alexis, and I think we will beat Stoke.

I'm seriously considering Nacho in for me. Unbelievably, I still have Kaku due to other injuries and bans (Cout; Kun) so he will definitely have to go next week to free up cash elsewhere haha

It sounds better than what it is 😉 I bet you are still ranked above me! I took Kun out before Burnley... Sitting at 60 k now, I have fallen since that Haz (C) joyride ;-).

I just got Costa in. Watch him get a YC now and 3 months in prison ;-). Yeah I think Nacho could be a great differential!

                    Hi mate

I wouldn't be too keen on Firmino just yet. He has an annoying habit of blanking when all other assets for Liverpool are firing. I'd be tempted to actually get Can in for Zaha, as he has the stats to back up a continuation of his good form; other than that, you have a great team. Can gives you that cover against West Ham, who are awful, without you having to break up a strong setup otherwise.

                    Hope that helps.

              Hi mate

I think it's strong, the only problem maybe being Allen for this week? Are you unsure about benching McAuley, too?
Is your main issue whether to take the -4 to remove Allen? Guessing your SV is 5.0 giving you a total of 6.0 to potentially spend?

I'd be tempted to get Can in for Allen, and then play McAuley who is always a goal threat for the game vs. Chelsea. However, TP's teams excel at set plays and McAuley is so dangerous in front of goal at corners and FKs that I'd be reluctant to bench him. Can, however, is playing a woeful West Ham and has the stats to suggest that he will be a great value investment in the short term until Coutinho is back. I'd be tempted to board the train and hope for a small value explosion like Allen or Capoue which will help you later on in the season and also give you extra Liverpool cover against the terrible Hammers.

              Hope that helps.

                Thanks!

Allens SV is 5.1, so i have potentially 6.1 to spend.
I dont have any FT left this week and already took a hit to do (Aguero->Costa and Holebas->Alonso).

I was planning this lineup this week:
                Pickford
                Alonso Cedric Amat McAuley
                Sanchez(c) Hazard Firmino
                Costa(vc) Kane Austin
                (Grant Walker de Roon Allen)

So I guess the question is should I do Allen -> Can for another hit this week?

Decent 4-3-3. Not worth the -8. McAuley could easily nick one against Chelsea.

Do Allen --> Can next time round. You've got Firmino anyway.

            Sanchez / Hazard / Firmino / Sigurdsson / Phillips
            Kane / Ibra / Anichebe

            WC, 0.3 ITB

I'm looking to do Anichebe to Carroll as my FT next week so would like to have 1.4 ITB to do so. I could do Phillips to Fletcher but that still leaves me little short... Any thoughts?

              Hi mate

I don't think Carroll is yet worthy of weakening your midfield to cater for, I think that's a very strong 5 in the face of the current fixtures.

imo you can afford to sit pretty on that team for the next week or so and bank an ft. You're covered tor xmas and it's a great team so relax ^^

Already used free transfer this week on Kun>Kane
Went from top of my mini league to 111points behind in just three weeks currently on 720

I'm considering a -8 hit to do walcott and smith > Ake and Sanchez (cant afford walcott>Sanchez by £0.3m) or I could whitch Firminho>Sanchez for a -4

              No problem.

I think the -8 is actually, oddly, the best option there. You'll just have to ensure you don't keep taking hits after that point; if you go above the -4 you're taking a hit you wouldn't otherwise be able to do for the long term good of your team, which I kind of think that transfer is. I think Firmino will return to the points sooner rather than later.

              Hope that helps.

Yep I feel the same. I've had Lukaku for 2 weeks longer than I should have because I hate the idea of taking a -8, I feel like it's much less competitive than a -4 in terms of ML status.

Ugh. I'm doing Kaku and Pieters out for Brunt and Iheanacho next week, then, hopefully, I can stop taking hits lol.

Hey individual if you have some spare time, would love some advice. Here is my following team:

            Foster Pickford
            Alonso pieters holebas Amat chambers
            Hazard firmino Walcott redmond capoue
            Kane Costa defoe

So I already aguero to Costa yesterday so I have don't have anymore ft. At the moment I have the exact cash to do alexis and siggy for Walcott and firmino for -8. I would actually prefer doing this next week for -4, giving Walcott one last chance, but with Sanchez about to go up tn, I feel like this is the one of the last chances of getting Sanchez in before he gets too expensive. Would you do make this move or just wait?

I know exactly what you mean. I've actually brought Sanchez in because of what you're saying, I can just see him rising so much. However, I wouldn't want to be getting rid of Firmino. Any other options, or do you have Liverpool cover? You don't want a blind spot going in to Xmas.

Hmm either one is a good play. You'll need to see who looks most encouraging after the Hammers game, don't take a 12 pointer!! If Lallana comes back to form he could be an awesome differential, so maybe keep an eye on him, but if not an FT to get Can in might be a good little earner.

I think that'll help you in the long run by the looks of things at the minute, but I'd be unsure of 100% saying yes - it could well be that Bobby (who I own) and Wally could show up this weekend, it's been that kind of season.

So I guess a lot depends on you! Are you playing for rank? Or competing against friends? Winning or losing? That can help me advise you better.

Hey yeah, I'm more driven by my MLs rather than overall rank too, so I understand.

I'd be tempted to take the -8 then at this point ONLY IF the guys ahead don't have the players you are bringing in. If they do, I wouldn't do it, as you're never going to make up that difference this week - you're better off hoping Walcott and Firmino differentiate for you and then reassess next time round.

              Hey mate

You need to get rid of Kun, as I'm sure you already know. Costa is obviously the man to come in for him, and you can leave it for this week.

Next time out, I don't think you quite have enough to do Sanchez in for Walcott, do you? In that case, I think it might be worth bringing in a replacement for a Lovren who is not bringing in clean sheets. I'd be tempted to get a Spurs defender for the next few matches after, with Rose for me the favourite - I have Walker, but Rose is the more attacking option it seems.

I have the exact money to do Amat > Walker, any reason not to do this this week? as don't want to miss with the price changes,

Would be for - 4 though..

          Thanks !

Walker could be a rotational risk during next few GWs.

Hate to rain on the Kane parade but....
Janssen wasn't in the squad on Sunday. Possible start for Kane this thursday?
A rest at home to Hull is possible imo.

no chance. Footballers are more than capable of playing 3 games in a week. Harry should be relatively fresh after injury

What about 5 games in two weeks?

First of all it's Wednesday they are playing, 2nd of all they have no chance of qualifying further in the CL so I wouldn't be surprised if Kane doesn't even play.

Poch fielded a weakened team last round when he needed a win so i don't see a reason why he would field a strong team this time around? A draw would be enough for Europa, but i don't think they are bothered really about that.

I agree there's a fair chance he won't play this Thursday. Just saw Kane mentioned as "above rotation risk" above yet Sanchez mentioned as rotation risk. Kane more likely to get a rest out of the two I think.

no hes not. Spurs dont have any other good options. Arsenal have Giroud and a converyor belt of skilful mids

Okay, they have bought Janssen specifically so that Kane doesn't have to play every single game. Will agree to disagree with you here 🙂

im sure that was the hope but the fact is Janssen hasnt been good enough.

Who do you think will score more? Arsenal vs Stoke or Chelsea vs West Brom?

            Chelsea

WBA being good defensively is a myth this season

They've only conceded 17 goals which is 1 less than Liverpool and only 3 more than Arsenal, 2 more than City and Soton 1 more than Utd and Everton.

              Not too shabby.

To be fair most defences are bit shabby this season, especially on the CS front...

Agreed. Chelsea are the only ones who've looked good defensively.

Good for the real life game though. I thought this weekends footy was one of the best we've seen in many a long moon.

What do you think of this 8?
          Sanchez Hazard Firmino Sigurdsson Eriksen*
          Kane Austin* (Diomande)
*Could get Costa/max but blabla 4 yellow...And too template too have Costa, or too risky to bet against him? Eriksen looks really good and Austin with nice fixtures.
