FFS Cup

FFS Cups – Results and Fifth Round Draws

Our two Premier League cup competitions have reached the last 32 stage – time to take a look at the some of the key Round Five encounters.

Our open-to-all cup’s only former winner, Mark, marches on, after seeing off What Divock?! to set up an encounter with 22,229th-ranked hishamkmr. With a 468 rank, Mark looks the favourite to proceed into the sixth round.

Another manager to draw the short straw and face a top 500 manager is the 21,317-placed Not Much Klopp, who takes on 339-ranked NUFC Fifer -the contest’s highest remaining manager.

Among the other eye-catching ties is the contest between Bake Baines on toast and My Pretty Pony (aka Peter Kouewenberg), who along with Mark is another representative of our live Hall of Fame Top Ten.

Peter’s 817 rank puts him in the driving seat for this encounter, given his opponent is 89,964 places below him.

The full Fifth Round draw can be found here.

At 88th in the world Pukka is the highest-placed remaining competitor in the Members Cup and takes on the 57,394th-ranked rogerbarton in the last 32.

Hana, who is 106 in the world, defeated Fenghh, the conqueror of former winner Trigg in Round Two, and next takes on Choppers13, who is another highly-placed manager, with a rank of 1,242.

Elsewhere, Round Four’s community writers derby saw Kryten emerge victorious over TopMarx. His reward is a match-up with Tramp, who at 70,119 is 53,496 places behind him.

De Ennet, who is 15,780 in the rankings, beat RoysCallerAnne and takes on another community regular in the next round, the 56,691-placed Rossendale Rover.

The full Fifth Round draw can be found here.

There is £350 in Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk vouchers up for grabs for the final top three managers in both tournaments.

Good luck to all those involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes, click this link.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    DGWK midfielders

Yesterday's Scout Squad article revealed that widespread apathy around the midfield options among Manchester United, Boro and Palace's ranks.

While Zaha was backed by all of us, the only other mention was for Lingard - as a differential.

Are you similarly unimpressed by the DGWK 34 centre of the park options?

Or are you investing heavily in DGWK midfielders?

I looked at options like Mikhi and Herrera but the rotation fear kills it.
Might just double up on Townsend lol.

Simply too many good options especially in a 3-4-3

Who to bench out of: Zaha, Siggy, Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen ?

Thing is who in our midfield isn't performing? Not gonna drop Sanchez spurs Liverpool hazard king. Siggy owners could punt I guess but I'd prob rather keep him. Therefore don't really care bout the dgw options, Zaha plenty for me

Utterly bemused by them all to be honest. Palace tough fixtures and midfielders are too hit and miss. I also have Benteke and PVA so don't want to triple up. United far too inconsistent to go near any of their midfielders. Middlesborough are less appealing than most mids with a sgw. Also, alot of people have a bench headache this week as it is, a Boro midfielder would make the decision easy.. ie.. Bench DeRoon

Townsend clocks up the bps and is likely to be a decent punt if bonus points if he gets the odd assist or goal

Just Zaha and there is no way I am taking a hit for another With Alli (cpl), Siggy (STO) and Sane (MUN). I think many are in the same both with good fixtures for Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs.

      I've backed zaha and Townsend:

      Good palace form
      Strong statistics for both
      Not completely safe just yet
      Guaranteed both matches (bar injury)
Giant killers, wouldn't be surprised at returns against pool and spurs
Crucially for me, good fixture the following week.

Anyone else like downing or a united player is a bit punty even for me

There's only three dgw midfielders on the current Watchlist: Zaha, Lingard and Townsend. That probably tells its own story.

The real issue is that this season has been won by those who have packed their midparks with quality players and there are a number of those players who have better prospects despite having only one game.

Does anyone really want to get rid of Alli, Hazard, Sanchez, Eriksen, Coutinho, King et al for this dgw?

Already have Zaha and de Roon (been a season long enabler up till now, never considered playing him before now, and even with the DGW i'm still a bit torn) will use my ft elsewhere though so to answer the question, no.

Had Mata been an option I would have considered him but nothing else even remotely stands out..

I think I'm going in with only Zaha in attack. 3 DGW defenders and Zaha. No Zlatan (May consider him if Utd lose tonight). Would have to take a hit to get him in and he may not start both games. I feel my team is strong enough to dodge too much damage seen as this DGW is rubbish for options.

Can only see some good options in defence and maybe an attacker from those teams having a DGW, going with Hennesey, Valencia, Rojo and Ibra atm. My midfield is currently beeing made up by Cout, Sanchez, Alli, King and Siggy with whom i am quite happy with, and with no WC left I can´t afford to make unnecessary moves. Siggy will probably be Sane from GW35 anyway, and it will be much easier to swap from Siggy to Sane than Zaha to Sane, with their respective fixtures in mind-).

Zaha and De Roon here. May use BB this week, uninspiring though it seems, as I have already used WC (dont want to say blown as it was very much needed and got my season back on track) and I happen to have quite a few DGW players in my squad - more by accident than design!

      Hey KoL,

Thanks. Just to be clear, does this mean that you are looking for teams who are not WCing in GW36 (ahead of GW37)..

So, if I were to WC during 35, ahead of 36, and BB during 36 ahead of 37, then this is OK?

I understand that the above is the template for teams looking to BB in massive DGW 37, so I presume this is what you are after.

I have this silly doubt - not wildcarding in GW 36 means

      1) I am eligible if I use my wildback before GW 36 deadline

      2) I am eligible if I use my wildcard after GW 36 deadline

        Every year is different.

Last year the FA Cup semi-finals were in GW35 instead of GW34.
This resulted in 1 additional match in GW33, 5 additional matches in GW34, 3 matches being rearranged from GW35 to a different GW, and 4 additional matches in GW38.
The popular choice was to play WC in GW32 or 33, BB in GW34 and TC in GW37, but playing TC in GW34 and BB in GW37 may have turned out even better.

This year there is no blank GW35 and DGW34 is far less attractive, so many of us played their TC in DGW27 instead.

If Wildcarding early, you should really have done it already. Some have already reaped benefits from playing it early but may suffer later. It remains to be seen whether they gain or lose on balance. It is certainly not a good idea to waste your wildcard now on bringing in lots of Palace and Boro players for DGW34.

In the case of my own team, there are very few changes I would want to make for DGW34, but I expect to make about 11 changes when I play my wildcard in GW36. My current squad is far superior for DGW34, and my wildcard squad should be far superior for GW36-38. My current squad also appears to be slightly better than the wildcard squad for GW35, so there would be no advantage for me to wildcard earlier.

Disagree with " It is certainly not a good idea to waste your wildcard now on bringing in lots of Palace and Boro players for DGW34."

Im on WC and have planned a GW34 WC for a while, using free transfers and your bench you can get good CPL and MID enablers who can also be used in BB

          CPL (HUL)
          MID (SOT)

I still think that for my squad a wildcard in GW36 will get me significantly more points in total than one in GW34, but Zlatan's injury may persuade me to bring it forward to GW35. My ideal squads for GW34 and for GW35 or 36 on are very different.

I expect to have two or three players from Palace and Boro for GW34, but do not think it is worth a wildcard or additional hits to bring in any more than that. And I probably wouldn't even want that many if it wasn't for the injuries to Andy Carroll and Zlatan.

A small number of Palace or Boro players may be worth considering for my later wildcard squad, but none of them are in my current draft.

After further investigation, I have changed my mind. I find I can get a much stronger wildcard squad than I thought in GW34 without ruining my GW36 squad or loading up on too many players from Boro and Palace, so my wildcard is now active. I don't know why it took me so long to come to this conclusion!

Just for my information, can you please explain the rationale behind the decision to restrict the analysis to people not WCing in 36 and with only the WC/BB combo left ?
      Thanks 🙂

Probably WC in 35, BB in 36 and TC in 37.
        Or the other way around...

Hey Gilles, the league is open to people WCing in 36 but I thought it skew the number of entrants. I will likely open up the league to all tomorrow. The reason for no TC is that it gives you an unfair advantage on others, want to keep this is as consistent as possible.

    Obiang -> De Roon? -4

With the dgw De Roon will probabily give me 4 points in return and I have lost Obiang for it.
But that also means I need to bench one of Son, Alli, Zaha, Coutinho or Luk, Kun, Benteke..

    Or

Play AOA with Valencia and Cahill and keep Baines and Davies benched...

So maybe not a really good plan..

bench de Roon. Sane plays as a forward for a high scoring City team, he has started the last 10 or so matches and is in fine form.
De Roon is a Central midfielder for a low scoring Boro team and hardly ever scores, the last goal was miles offside and should not have been given. Two good fixtures, granted, but still less likely to get something.

06 Mar: The DGW affects price rise thresholds. We pointed this on our Twitter feed on 22nd April 2015 while others said "it was wildcards". It is not a new rule. It is under investigation how to exactly correct for this, but it is likely that thresholds are doubled in the GW before a DGW.

    3. Bunk Moreland
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 6 months ago

Yes. The thresholds are doubled for DGWs. So he needs twice the amount of transfers to rise.

We don't know how price rises work, FPL statistics are making their best guess and they are right about 95 % of the time, but that means they also are wrong quite often.

are they? liverpool are the lucky ones who get the sakho-less palace. who you'd also rather have at home. same as hull, much more stubborn on their own patch. west ham looks good even if reid will be back by then. tottenham are the best team in the league right now, by miles, but those fixtures could be better.
