Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Resurgent Wilson Sinks Arsenal

A star turn from an in-form striker makes history for Bournemouth as Arsenal’s defensive fragility is exposed once again.

Callum Wilson helped Bournemouth to their first ever Premier League win over the Gunners and boosted his increasingly strong claims to be our third forward for good measure.

The striker hit the equaliser and then set up Jordon Ibe’s winner, grabbing maximum bonus for a 12-point return.

Injury kept Wilson out of the team until Gameweek 10 and he then scored in just one match, although that did involve a hat-trick against Huddersfield, up to Gameweek 19.

But his current form has been well worth the wait for his 2.4% ownership, with strikes in three of the last four fixtures.

Priced at 5.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Wilson has the form and some favourable fixtures (whu che STK hud NEW lei) to be a strong third striker candidate.

He’s certainly got the attacking numbers to back up his claims. Only Harry Kane can better him for goals (five to three), shots (22 v 15), efforts in the box (14 v 12) and attempts on target (12 to eight) over the last four Gameweeks.

Ibe has also been producing the figures – as we detailed in yesterday’s Spot The Differential article – to warrant interest and he duly obliged with a first ever league goal for the Cherries.

He’s had more shots (19) and efforts on target (nine) than any other midfielder in the last four Gameweeks, while only four have bettered his 11 key passes.

Ibe thrived alongside Ryan Fraser, who provided the other assist, in a central support role in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

His 4.8 price and 0.4% ownership mark him out as a budget differential in a side showing some serious attacking intent – Bournemouth continue to rank top for shots inside the box over the last four Gameweeks.

Bellerin boost for owners

Just one Arsenal player, Hector Bellerin (12.6%), is currently enjoying double-figure ownership in FPL and he delivered in an otherwise dismal display from the Gunners.

Having failed to score in the first 21 Gameweeks of the season, the Spaniard has now netted back-to-back goals, with the assist today coming from Alex Iwobi.

Bellerin is finally starting to translate attacking statistics into points – among defenders, only Marcos Alonso has bettered his 24 shots so far this season.

Defensively, however, it’s another matter for him and his team-mates.

Arsenal’s nine clean sheets this season is bettered by just five teams, but they’ve now gone five matches without a shut-out and have kept only three in the last ten.

Injuries to key personnel such as Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal haven’t helped, although Sead Kolasinac was fit enough to return to the squad today.

However, the summer signing was consigned to bench-warming duties as Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ continued at left wing-back at the Vitality Stadium.

Mesut Ozil’s knee injury seemingly kept him out, while Alexis Sanchez was omitted from the starting XI and edges ever closer to the Emirates exit. However, Arsenal’s attacking depth was at least boosted by the return of Aaron Ramsey, who was handed 16 minutes from the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The Welsh international averaged 5.4 points per match prior to that problem and he will now be pushing for a return to the starting XI, particularly with the Sanchez saga finally nearing its end.

Arsene Wenger had this to say on the Chilean’s situation post-match

“He’s [Sanchez] in a mode where he doesn’t know what’s happening to him. That’s why I decided to leave him out, because he could have moved today, or not. I didn’t want to come down with him here travelling away from the team.”

The 2-1 defeat today made it just one win in five for Arsenal, yet their attack has ticked over, scoring 10 times.

And their medium-term schedule remains one of the kindest – the Gunners play just three of the top eight over the next 12 fixtures, facing Spurs in Gameweek 27, Man City the week after and Leicester City in Gameweek 31.

    Update 14th Jan 2018

Regarding the two surprise rises last night:

van Dijk (error 84%) This was a result of a sequence of events never observed previously involving the 'locking' of players. I need to update the server code to reflect the new insights. Importantly the reasons are now understood.
Hegazi (error 32%) I'm not 100% sure on the events causing this issue. It is possibly due to the impact of wild cards over a series of game weeks (i.e. not just last weeks onslaught). But other factors must have had an influence as well. This needs further investigation.
Overall I was expecting much worse results due to last weeks wild card onslaught - in particular with the price drops.

Really want Aguero, but is it worth it?

    Elliot / Courtois
    Ota / Jones / Christensten / Mee / Kenny
    Salah / Sterling / Son / Alli / Lingard
    Kane / Depoitre / Niasse

    Alli + Depoitre ->

    A: Aguero (capt) + 5.9 (-4)
    B: Firmino + Arnie (-4)
    C: Aguero + Arnie + 4.6 def (Christensen out) -8

    Fabianski - Elliot
    Alonso - Otamendi - Masuaku - Dunk - Mariappa

Im considering short term, 4 weeks before likely blank. NEW, WBA captain tempting isnt it?
But I might just go Firmino and captain Sterling those games, or Kane.
Im at 60k OR and need some differentials but might be more sensible to follow the herd at this point but preparing for blanks/DGWs in the meantime.

Only him and Firmino are interested to me for my 2nd striker. ML leader and the majority of top 5k have Firmino so Im tempted to risk it. Its Kun. As a differential. With those fixtures.

Time will tell if it was a good choice or not. Mind you, Im sure long term Firmino + money will be a better option.

Was considering bringing Kun in especially with Pep wanting a big response after tonights game and with Newcastle and West Brom at home. Jesus out for at least next 4 GWs too.

However, Newcastle have only conceded 8 goals in as many games and never conceded more than 2 in that period. West Brom are also keeping clean sheets recently so maybe fixtures not as good as they look. Sanchez transfer brings uncertainty too.

Now Firmino who I can bring in without a hit looks more attractive.

I swapped last week as had exact funds available. Not a good decision so far. I'm 100 ahead of second place in work league and trying to break into top 1k so thought it might be a decent differential without too much downside.

Thoughts on the Ox [5.6M]? He played brilliantly against City and has been good for a few weeks. He’s on corners and with Coutinho gone, he might be nailed on.

This team look OK going forward -
Jones and Richarlison to Maguire and Lingard would be moves ( need .2 m from Jones to afford Lingard on 2 frees)

                Adrián
                Otamendi Maguire* Alonso
Salah (c) Sterling Son Lingard* Arnautovic
                Kane Firmino

                Pope Ogbonna DCL Kenny

If twitter is to be believed, its looking like Sanchez -> United is only hours away.

Baffles me how only the two Manchester clubs are interested in paying 30 mil for a what is probably a top 20 player in the world but that might be due to wage demands.

To those complaining about wages for footballers.

They make far less than American superstars and...the money is there to pay them by the club (and the system in how they generate revenue), or else they wouldnt pay them that much.

                  Don't hate...Appreciate.

At least they work hard for their money, unlike rich fat cats who deserve little to no sympathy for what they 'earn'.

Have Kane and Kun, and thinking to do Rich + DCL -> Firmino + Albrighton (-4) and play 343, before G Jesus is fit.
This will be playing 3 heavy forwards that againts current template 352, but I think that can be good choice now, any thought about this guys?

                  On a tactical side.

Is the time right now to broaden our squads?...For all those playing with a Bench fodder mid and/or Bench Fodder defenders those places become vital around DGW/BGW times....Usually a tactic of hiding DGW players (including a DGW keeper) on the bench between a Blank GW and Double GW reaps dividends...(note...those with a BGW usually have a DGW very soon after)..

Is it time for RLC and co to their marching orders?

I have Quaner and Mbemba at the moment. I'll play my free hit for the big BGW and wildcard for the big DGW so I think that's when I'll sort out my bench

                      Yes they will....

FH and WC takes care of some of the DGW season but by no means all of it...even the week we play bench boost we will be glad of hiding those funds on our bench in the form of DGW players...

                    Absolutely.
It's a strong 15 squad for me now.
4 benchers won't be below 18million but that's not too extreme.

                    See above...

Minimise bench fodder and draw away from too many United/City/Chelsea and Arsenal picks...and bench the ones you want to keep...

Liverpool/Spurs/Lei/WHM/Bou etc all help us out by having good fixtures either in the run up to it or on the GW28 day.
