Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gurn

It was a case of “one in, one out” on Saturday’s edition of Tightrope Watch, as the population swelled briefly to 28 before a Baggies midfield enforcer fell foul of the referee’s wrath on Tyneside. Sunday delivered a couple more five-card tricks, as the ban stick finally hit its target:

Saturday’s advent on the outskirts of the suspension jungle arrived midway through Stoke’s 4-0 drubbing at Everton, with a yellow card shown to Geoff Cameron after his foul on stand-in left back, Bryan Oviedo, just before the opening goal. As with the existing community of offenders, the US international will now have to endure the rest of the year looking over his shoulder in the knowledge that just one more malefaction could result in an enforced rest.

Meanwhile, graduating from the tightrope and flung headlong into that enforced rest this week are a trio of transgressors. First up, West Brom’s Congolese midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu earned his fifth card of the season for a foul on Yohan Cabaye late in the St James’ Park clash and will sit out the midweek hosting of Manchester City – perhaps he’ll use the time to consider what his future holds after his desire to move to “a more classy club” was made public.

Secondly, in the Sunday lunchtime fare, gurner extraordinaire Phil Jones clipped Mousa Dembélé to hand Spurs another 20-yard free-kick chance and earn himself a midweek rest for the visit of Everton – where Marouane Fellaini looks set to receive a frosty reception in his place. Finally, Hull’s Curtis Davies succumbed to a ban of his own after felling Jordan Henderson for the free-kick which led to Liverpool’s equalising goal at the KC. His absence at Arsenal coinciding perfectly with the return of James Chester – fresh from a price drop to 3.8m, and poised to offer extraordinary value once the Tigers’ fixtures ease.

Finally, Palace’s Yannick Bolasie serves the second of a three-match ban, whilst returning from suspension ready for the midweek fixtures will be German defender Sascha Riether, as his Fulham side, under the new management of René Meulensteen, seek to avoid a seventh straight loss in all competitions.

    Who to bench?

    Clyne (VILLA H)
    Koscielny (HULL H)
    Terry (SUN A)
    Dawson (FUL A)
    Oscar (SUN A)
    Ramsey/Ozil (HULL H)
    Coutinho (NOR H)
    Suarez (NOR H)
    Lukaku (MUN A)
    Remy (SWA H)

Currently on Lukaku but so unsure.. Surely I can't bench him in his form against a weak man utd defence but who else to bench?

I guess the frequent references to Brunt on here were supposed to be ironic, but you might think about him before Sessegnon. Started the last 4 with 2 assists and a goal. A pretty decent FF history too, averaging about 115 FF points in seasons with ~2300+ min played. FK/corners too.

Always start Coleman. I'd probably play Gabbidon @ home, but that's a risk given the lack of quality of CP.

I am considering Brunt as well since WBA do have a nice run.

There's an option of keeping Ravel instead of doing the Sess move.
It would allow me to do Lukaku Ivanovic -> Rooney Evans. Is that an upgrade?

Yeah I've been burned because of benching Coleman. and I don't have Rooney so if he somehow gets CS then I would jizzed probably.

As a season holder of Baines, I've thought of Coleman as 'Baines-lite' - you always play him on the chance he'll get something in the attacking end. I'd keep R.Morrison. Really a perfect 5th mid. Keep him on your bench for the unexpected rotation/inj and he can surprise you with the odd goal/assist from the bench.

Best option out of Sess, Amalfitano, Brunt? Currently have Sess, but not sure if I should keep him. Yes, he plays in the "hole" behind Long, but is he really worth that 1.5m extra?

Difficult one. Sess has a good history in his full seasons averaging ~150 points. Brunt is a lot cheaper but has a steady points history too when playing ~2300+ min., averaging about 115 points in those seasons. Depends on what the ~1.6M is for imo. Sess's price means it's hard to sit him. Amalfitano looks nailed on when fit and he has provided a lot of service.

They did okay - the main issue was Mirallas and Giroud instead of Ramsey & Lukaku - we discussed it and, hands up, I got it wrong. Basically I was spooked by the Walcott option and also convinced that Mirallas would be a certain starter given his returns vs Liverpool. I don't think you can blame us for going Suarez and Aguero 😉

You ll be fine with Lloris. You should get rid of Sturridge asap cos he is also out for 2 months.

Wow! Bad times when you can't even contemplate Boruc > Marshall because you've already filled your quota of Cardiff players 😯

Evening on all, on a quick break in work. Would appreciate a reply

    A. Remy and Chico -> Rooney and Gabbidon, 4 point hit.

    Or

    B. Remy and Chico -> Rooney and Gabbidon next gameweek for free?

City are scary good at the moment. If they do finish second in their Champions League group, as expected, then they will have to face either Barca, Real, P$G or Athletico.

Whoever draws them are going to be pissed at winning their group 😆
