Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Sunday

Sunday could well be a day of reckoning. While Liverpool clash head-on with City at Anfield, Chelsea’s hopes of keeping pace with that pair in the title race will rest on their ability to dispose of struggling Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

The opening clash of the day, just minutes away, undoubtedly commands the bulk of our attention. City will arrive at Anfield looking to halt a charge from Brendan Rodgers’ side that has seen the Merseysider outfit win nine league matches on the spin. City turn up with Sergio Aguero fit but named only on the bench as Manuel Pellegrini keeps faith with Edin Dzeko and makes just one change – Gael Clichy returns as the rotation with Aleks Kolarov continues at left-back. Vincent Kompany is in the lineup despite a training ground injury on Saturday. There’s no such issues for Liverpool – Rodgers puts out an unchanged side as Mamadou Sakho retains his start at the back, despite Dan Agger returning to fitness; the Dane is named amongst the subs.

We’ll bring you the teamsheet news from today’s game in South Wales via our Twitter feed, while our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open for those looking for some real-time reactions during totday’s vital encounters.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Dzeko to start against Sunderland?

I know he played like Giroud but you could see what City were lacking once he went off. Sakho and Skrel just heading off the crosses with ease

Hate seeing comments like this. It was a disgusting tackle. Going for the title or not it's sick seeing tackles like that which can end a player's season/ World Cup. Even if it was on Nasri who I'm not a big fan of...

This might be a bit of a pyrrhic victory for Liverpool.

Losing Henderson for 3 games and potentially Sturridge too because of injury is really worrying news. At least Gerrard escaped a ban, but playing Chelsea without those two might be game deciding.

They took so much damage. The Henderson one was the avoidable one, in hindsight it was a really stupid lunge but I think he just panicked.

Allen and possibly Lucas will be getting a lot more gametime which is worrying. They will be a lot more one dimensional without Sturridge, forcing them to play a 4-3-3 in all likelihood. I hope it's just a niggle.

of the realistic scenarios i think this is a very good outcome for kolarov and aguero. (perfect would have been aguero scored a penalty for the skrtel punch, and kolarov came on for a point)
also if it has become clichy for away games kolarov at home then next 2 are at home, and possibly luckily the west brom game is on monday.

I'm quoting their answer again here:

                Hi Bogdan,

In a double Gameweek, an unlimited number of manager substitutions can be made after the first day of fixtures, like in any other round. However, it is not possible to make manager substitutions after games on the second day of the Gameweek, or any subsequent match days - unless your player on the bench didn't play in his teams first fixture, in which case he can be substituted in for his teams second fixture.

No argument with the selling in droves, but the reticence of Mourinho, the openness of Pel/Aguero, and the vague musings from Moyes represent very different standards upon which price thresholds are based. Consistency would be helpful.

Sturridge has had a good 18 months now.

Incidentally, whilst not as good as Sturridge, Ba is also a quality striker when played up top consistently.
