- The Case for Rooney: Take Two
THE CASE FOR ROONEY - TAKE 2
One of the hot topics earlier was some nice work on Rooney's performance against the bottom 5 teams. I think it read 7 games, 4 goals and 3 assists.
I had a closer look. Only one of those goals were scored at home. None of the assists were scored at home.
Let's look at the upcoming opponents:
SUN - on an amazing mini run with a 2-2 (City) and a 2-1(Chel). All to play for to try and survive.
HULL - I can't imagine Bruce making it easy for his alma mater United. Shirley he would have learned a lesson vs Arsenal? Arsenal midf(Ramsey) killed him. Yes Rooney scored 4 goals vs hull in 2009/10. But this is not the same United(or Hull) of those years.
NOR - They had a good game vs Livp. They have a really tough run with manu/chel/ARS to finish their season. I can only imagine they think they might something at Old trafford.
With all this Moyes talk at the moment, who knows that Rooney will dish up. Is he fit? Will Welbeck be given a run now that rumors are doing the rounds that he wants to leave the club?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2609055/David-Moyes-pleads-Danny-Welbeck-stay-Spurs-target-wantaway-United-striker.htmlOpen ControlsInjury and lack of form concern me a lot, as well as the team playing poorly. Then then again, who else would you get. It's Rooney with 2 games. You could be massively punished for not having him.
Open ControlsRooney coming in for me. Feck the stats
Open ControlsArmband for me
Open Controls
Norwich seem to be set up a little more attackingly which means their defense is even more exposed
Hull have one eye on the cup final
Sunderland only turn up against the good teams 🙂Open ControlsNice. Good feedback. Points all valid.
Open Controls
All good points. He's just so bloody hot and cold as a player. Good to have for long periods but seems impossible to predict how he'll play match to match.
Geez I'd love to have a certain other striker captaincy option this weekOpen ControlsTrue. He always seems to let me down when I own him. I'm not even sure he is motivated at this time of the season. Might be holding back for WC.
Open ControlsPlus surely it would be more annoying misssing out on a big haul þhan getting him and getting say 10pts over the 3 games
Open Controls
Great option for this week - but I'm concerned that RVP coming back may dampen his prospects. Difficult to say with all the Moyes uncertainty as to what will happen.
Open ControlsNice article.
To answer the final questions are tricky, but in my mind after Utd's last embarrassment, I will be avoiding all investment including the DG/W.Open ControlsIf anything, Sunderland beating Chelsea and drawing with City is a warning for United to take them seriously, Sunderland are still useless and a good performance from United will see them crumble fairly easily (look at what happened at White Hart Lane for Sunderland).
Hull only have one game left this season and that's the FA Cup final, they're not going to fight to the death in the league at Old Trafford just because their manager used to play for the team..
Norwich suck away from home, can't score, can't defend.
Rooney and Mata in for me..Open Controlsif your trying to make a case to go without rooney then i disagree! Surely you must be making plans to bring him in ASAP, all the cons you mentioned don't even make up half the pros
Open ControlsOf course he needs to be considered. What also needs to be considered are ManU's opponents, especially SUN and Nor playing for survival, Moyes being sacked and the morale in the united camp, Welbeck wanting to move(he might get game time), United's current form and Rooney's injury/health.
It's not as if we haven't been burned by him before.Open Controls
Even at this stage of the season price changes hurt. Followed general advice and held off doing silva + lukaku > Rooney + Ramsey, cost 0.2 and counting
Open ControlsJust do it then. I've already got Ramsey in. Rooney will follow tonight for Lakuku.
Open ControlsIf either rises even once more i wont be able to afford Puncheon to Yaya for free next week. i may have to make early transfers 🙁 .. hate making em
Open ControlsLots of price changes early this week
Open Controls
I'm in the same boat. I'm holding off shipping silva until I get concrete news how long he will be out for.
Open Controls
Moyes on getting United back to where they belong:
"We've already done that and we're doing that behind the scenes just now."
Moyes post game "we'll try to do everything we possibly can to get a team which is capable of winning better than we've done recently"
Way to shoot for the stars!Open ControlsSalah to Aj for free? For once everyone else in my team good to go this week, have Ramsey and Rooney and Aguero
Open ControlsI thought 69 was a reasonable score for the week. Bit annoyed the with a red arrow.

Took a hit last night for Gerrard + Lukaku >> Ramsey + Rooney
would you recommend taking another hit for Silva (if out) >> Yaya (if fit) before start of GW?
Thanks!Open ControlsA few points of a triple digit score and up to 77k (my highest rank this season).
Already did Punch + Silva -> Ramsey + Mata (-4)
Adrián
Baines, Coleman, Chester
Nasri, Mata, Ramsey, Eriksen
Suarez, Lukaku, Aguero
Boruc, Ward, Olsson, Noone
It's been a struggle.Open Controlswhich looks best for coming week
a) Suarez Podolski Aguero
b) Suarez Rooney Aguero
c) Suarez Aguero BonyOpen ControlsI don't think Silva will be fit next week. Same ankle again. Pelle won't take the risk again.
Open ControlsBad week.. A mixture of Ramsey on the bench, Suarez (C), Ward on the bench behind 2 Chelsea defenders, and my rival owning Sterling have all accumulated to give him a 50 point lead after I had been winning the league all season.. Ah well I'll still catch him 😎
How are we all? 🙂
What's this about Yaya being back? Do people expect him to be back in the points again when he's back? No more penos..Open ControlsHow the hell do you own and been Ramsey???
Open ControlsSilva, Nasri, Gerrard, Eriksen
Suarez, Lukaku, Aguero
I should have benched Gerrard or Silva but I wasn't 100% sure about Ramsey away to Hull, Gerrard could have been this week's Sterling, hindsight is a wonderful thing though.Open Controls
Bench*
Open Controlsended up not doing mutch to Ramsey for a hit cause i started Harper(over Mannone) and wanted a CS.. Hurts sooooo bad 🙁
Open ControlsI did mata instead of Ramsey
Of he costs more, he must be better, rightOpen ControlsDid mata over ramsey as well for the DGW but he is already 13 pts behind. Not sure he will make that up
And going to get Ramsey this week anyway. 13 pts too late but better one week late than not at all with Ramsey as I learnt last timeOpen Controls
This was a week filled with hurt for a lot of people, if you didn't pick the right players, you were punished.
Ah well, still grasping on to the top 10k and now that my transfers are more or less out of the way and I can slow down with the hits, aiming to be back in the top 5k 😎
Transfer plans for this week Keith? 🙂Open Controls
tough luck irish 😀
apparently yaya may be back for palace said pelle...
depends if he stays on pens and if silva is playing or not...without silva city arent the sameOpen ControlsI can't see Silva playing that much of an influential role any more for the rest of the season, if you keep playing on an ankle injury its only going to get worse..
Can Yaya perform without Silva but with Aguero?Open Controlsyaya and aguero have started 6 games together without silva
yaya has 34 points from those games...
however he got 5 points courtesy of a pen after kun had been subbedOpen ControlsThat makes for some nice reading... Yaya could be very nice to have ofer the dgw for those that can fit him back in or those that kept.
At least we have this week to wait and see 🙂Open Controls
Similar enough to you but with a bit of fortune from Baines, managed to avoid a catastrophe. Selling Coleman for Cahill was not my brightest move 🙁 Still only lost 5 points on my rival who had sterling and captained Aguero so I still have a healthy lead.
Open Controls
Silva Lukaku out
Rooney C and AJ in, 8 pt hit
OUCH it burnsOpen ControlsMannone (Harper)
Baines Coleman Azpilicueta (Chester Dann)
Mata AJ Mutch Puncheon (Silva)
Suarez Aguero Lukaku
Waiting till the end of the week and doing Silva + Lukaku to Ramsey + Rooney
Then next week Coleman + Puncheon to Zaba/Demi(free up cash) + Yaya
Sound?Open Controlsvery nice
Open ControlsIF i dont wait till the end of the week and do Ramsey + Rooney in tonight i can afford a straight swap from Puncheon to Yaya next week.. reckon that is worth it? or just wait and do the coleman to zaba/demi downgrade next week to cover the price rises
Open Controlsid proper kick myself if after my patience all season an early transfer in the final 3 weeks ruined me 🙂 .. i reckon Zaba/Demi in for Coleman is a good enough transfer for a hit anyway next week na considerin they got a double?
Open Controls
Sounds great Keith. Thinking of Silva and Lukaku to Ramsey and Rooney meself.
Open ControlsCheers all! tough to ignore the price rises and such but im gonna hold firm and do my transfers as late as possible.
Open ControlsSounds like a plan Keith!
Open ControlsLooks good, are we sure yaya back next week? I think nasri is fine as a replacement if there is any doubt
Open Controlsyup.. if he aint back then nasri it is
Open Controls
Lukaku puncheon distin -> Rooney Ramsey alonso (-8)
Lukaku silva puncheon -> Rooney Ramsey nasri (-8)
Either of these worth the hits?

To everyone offing lukaku before his game at a motivation-less soton side... I think this may be a week too soon. I have the money to get Rooney for a hit, but can't see why it can't just wait.

-Play Mannone or Marshall this week?
-Play Mutch or Punch this week?
-Captain Roo or Ramsey this week?
Thanks!Open Controlsso looking at Suarez out for Rooney and Lukaku out for Podolski..would have more than enough cash to bring Suarez back in for Newcastle
Open Controls8 PPG in last 5.

What more do you want to hear?Open Controls*8.8
Open Controlsare you keeping Suarez? I'm 28 points behind and trying to be creative
Open ControlsI'm 39 behind.
I might sell. I won't (c) Suarez in next 2 anyway.Open Controlsexactly my point, Rambo or Pod (c) this week (likely the former) and Rooney or Mata c in the dgw (likely the former again)
bring him back in for GW38 and cap him against NewcastleOpen ControlsJip.
Kun(c) worked out a treat this week. If I gain another 10 pts then it's down to 29 with a DGW and GW 38 to follow.
Might even save a trade in DGW 37 and have 2 trannies to bring Suarez back.
Living the high life!Open ControlsBtw, 28 ain't a lot. I will be inclined to not sell Suarez in your case.
Open Controls
I think taking out the leagues best player, top scorer and most creative threat in their title run in is a mistake
Open ControlsIt's the obvious thing to do when you are chasing.
Open Controls
I love the smell of Dead Zone in the morning.

Ramsey has 9 goals, 9 assists, and 9 clean sheets to his name at the moment.
After the Newcastle game, all 3 should be in double figures.
Ramsey (C) 😎Open Controls*will
an easy decision imo, considering how shite Newcastle are these days as wellOpen ControlsHow to start next gameweek?
Howard Mannone
Cahill (liv) Debuchy (Ars) Chester (Ful) Shaw (Eve) Distin (Sou)
Eriksen (Sto) Ramsey (New) Gerrard (Che) Sterling (Che) Huddlestone (Ful)
Lukaku (sou) Suarez (Che) Aguero (Cry)Open Controlsbench cahill, huddlestone and debuchy
Open Controls
Gonna (c) him? Sure looks tempting
Open Controls100% definitely without a doubt.
He looks to be the most "up for it" player in the whole league outside of Liverpool. Desperately trying to drive his team over the line into 4th. I'd say he's just trying to make up for his time off!Open ControlsNice. Gonna bring him in this week
Open Controls
I'm tempted. Feels wrong over Rooney (NOR) but it's that kinda season
Open ControlsHehe indeed it is Champ
Open Controls
Tempted to leave the armband on Aguero. If Yaya is back, City will dominate Crystal Pulis.
Open ControlsAlso an option, but that's putting a decent amount of faith in City to beat Pulis, which will be tough.
Open Controls
Can only get one - Mata or Ramsey?
Open ControlsSilva --> Mata or Nasri or Coutinho...please don't suggest Rambo..
Open ControlsI like coutinho the best, however mata is the logical choice
Open ControlsMoyes.
I mean, Rambo.
Oops, I mean, wait and see but out of those three.. Coutinho is my favourite but doesn't have a DGW, Mata depends if United can pick up any form at all with the whole Moyes out thing, and Nasri depends if he can play without Silva giving him the ball in good positions.
Mata imo.Open ControlsMatata
Open Controls
Tell it to me straight people, is 53 points too much to make up?
Not sure whether to chase my rival or to try and finish on as high a rank as possible..Open ControlsDon't have Rooney so it's Ramsey(C).
A popular choice, by the looks of it.Open ControlsEven if I had Rooney I won't (c) him.
Open ControlsOnly on FFS, and there will always be those who say "No way in hell am I (C) a 7m mid when Rooney has Norwich at home!"
Open ControlsThe way Newcastle are playing I think he is a superb option plus its the Monday night game so your gameweek will always be salvageable 🙂
Open ControlsHe's the best option this week, there isn't a single other player in the league I would rather have for this week 🙂
Podolski could do well, but SAR is how I'm lining up.Open Controls

Good morning - please rank these transfers in order of priority:
A) Distin to Koscileny
B) Mirallas to Ramsey
C) Silva to Yaya
D) Lukaku to Rooney
