Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

The weekend’s nine fixtures seemed to have made a minimal impact on the treatment rooms up and down the country. With this in mind, we roll out an injury and suspension all-in-one update ahead of tonight’s Emirates clash between Arsenal and Newcastle:

Injuries

Aston Villa
Leandro Bacuna was withdrawn at half-time in the weekend loss at Swansea due to illness, Paul Lambert has confirmed.

Everton
Roberto Martinez confirmed Leighton Baines was subbed off towards the end of Saturday’s loss at Southampton:

“We will assess Leighton Baines and see if it’s a serious injury or not. He was feeling his knee and his calf a little bit, we will assess him but it shouldn’t be too bad”.

Fulham
Steve Sidwell was forced off with a knock during Saturday’s draw with Hull, according to the club’s official website.

Newcastle
Luuk de Jong has been ruled out of this evening’s trip to the Emirates with an ankle problem picked up during last week’s loss to Swansea.

Swansea
Angel Rangel was subbed off during the weekend win over Villa after picking up an injury late in the second-half.

West Brom
The Baggies right-back Steven Reid lasted less than 45 minutes of the weekend win over West Ham before limping off due to injury.

West Ham
James Tomkins was forced off just after the half-hour mark of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the Hawthorns through injury.

Suspensions

Chelsea’s Ramires was handed a four-match ban last week after accepting the FA’s charge of violent conduct for an off-the-ball incident during the Gameweek 35 home loss to Sunderland. The Brazilian was sidelined for yesterday’s trip to Anfield and will also miss the upcoming games against Norwich and Cardiff, in addition to the opening fixture of the 2014/15 campaign.

Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross is set to serve a one-match ban this weekend after he was dismissed against Spurs at the weekend. The Potters skipper, who received two yellow cards in the 1-0 loss, misses a home clash against Fulham, with Marc Muniesa likely to partner Marc Wilson at the heart of defence, allowing Erik Pieters to return to the starting XI at left-back.

Cardiff centre-half Juan Cala will sit out this weekend’s trip to Newcastle after being dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity during yesterday’s 4-0 loss at Sunderland. The Spaniard returns in time for the Gameweek 38 clash with Chelsea as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to stave off the threat of relegation.

Jordan Henderson serves the last of a three-match ban this weekend as Liverpool look to bounce back from Sunday’s loss to Chelsea with a tricky trip to Selhurst Park.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

My main rival (he's actually beating me narrowly) has opted for Williamson tonight instead of Ramsey.

Watch him grab a goal, the number of goals he has had from defenders lately is obscene.

Tough one. May be tighter than we expected. Had banked on this being a goals galore, and maybe it will be, but I had hoped that Newcastle would still be without Rémy and Debuchy, and them being back means this is much tougher Toon to play against than I hoped as a Ramsey captainer.

I wish Talksport would shut the hell up about that SportsYapper app.

I don't care what fans on there are yapping about. I've got Twitter. I've got Fantasy Football Scout.

I don't need Robbie Fowler to tell me in the morning that Man City fans were yapping about how they think they'll win the league.

    Drives me mental.

i found the atmophere of the quiz room fairly positive. could have done with some music if possible, just something in the background, maybe some jazz, or instrumental trip-hop to keep it fresh. also a little animal round always goes down well. overall though any quiz where kolo toure is a correct answer can't be sniffed at

Is it worth me taking ANOTHER hit to bring in a United or City defender for the DGW?

Last week I took a -8 and have already done a -4 this week to bring in Rooney and Valencia

    My current back line:

Mannone (United away, West Brom home)
Ivanovic (Norwich home). Koscielny (West Brom home). Fonté (Swansea away)

    So yes or no?

All that matters is the relative merits of this transfer - whether you have already taken hit's makes no difference at all to the merit of the considered transfer.

If you think it's worth it, go for it.

It was the football equivalent of Ali's rope-a-dope against George Foreman in Zaire though.

Ali knew it would work cos he knew Foreman would not be able to stop himself tiring himself out hitting Ali's hands.

Mourinho knew he'd frustrate Liverpool enough that they'd make a mistake.

The difference is that in boxing is a one off match. A draw would have been fine for Liverpool, they would have won the league and Rodgers needs to look at why he was attacking Chelsea so fiercely and leaving them open to the counter attack - exactly as Chelsea wanted.

Thats not who Liverpool are though. Different styles and all that.

As Omar said though, this was a masterclass from Mourinho. If you enjoy football and tactics you had to appreciate what Chelsea did. Genius is genius and this was very much a work of art yesterday. .

Liverpool would have pushed forward I search of a winner and Chelsea would have looked to catch them on the break.

Liverpool were thoroughly frustrated 15 minutes into the game. Mourinho taught them an important lesson yesterday afternoon. The master outschooled his former pupil. Just accept it already.

What I am saying is that there was no reason for Liverpool to push forward in search of a winner. Rodgers needs to take a look at his tactics in this match as he blew an opportunity to show up Mourinho and win the league, simply by defending.

Didn't you answer your own question a moment ago when you said it probably would have ended 0-0 had Gerrard not slipped?

The game was decided by a mistake, not by either manager's tactics. It completely changed the game.

But before that Liverpool were attacking heavily and leaving themselves open to counter attack. Even playing out from the back was unnecessarily risky in the circumstances.

I don't think they were. I thought Liverpool looked quite happy and were controlling possession. Chelsea also looked comfortable as they didn't want possession and were happy to soak it up.

We were probing but not over extending. It was just very unfortunate that Gerrard slipped when he did.

Liverpool cant sit and defend a game - they proved that when 2 up v City and Norwich.

If LFC had done it for 44 mins and really killed the game - Stevie would still have slipped and Ba still scored so the result would have been the same.

We are all gutted - but we have over achieved and just being involved at this stage is a huge improvement - and we still have a chance.

Yes, a little bit. Seen that all hope that my GW isn't absolute disaster lies on one single player I have still playing. Usually I would simply have no hope whatsoever, but that player being my captain Ramsey from Arsenal fighting for their traditional 4th place title against completely out of form Newcastle having practically nothing to play for, I know a decent GW is still possible. And that makes me stress this result a lot.

England vs Holland at Wembley in 1993. I was 11, my dad won a competition in the Sun newspaper for 2 tickets to 5 home qualifiers and a signed England ball. I can still remember John Barnes getting roundly booed before the game and then he scored a wonder freekick in the 2nd minute!

Agreed Arbroath.... I'm in 793rd right now but no one playing today, a Ramsey blank and no Arsenal CS would be a heck of a day....

Also have a 15 point lead in semi's of Torres Magic's FPL open against only Ramsey, so a nice quiet night from him in particular would be fabulous so I'm not sweating things out at the end.
