Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Liverpool require two own goals to get the better of QPR, as Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard bag an assist apiece. Eduardo Vargas scores twice for the R’s, Wilfried Bony and Charlie Adam both notch for the second consecutive Gameweek, whilst Victor Moses produces an assist for the fourth league match in succession for Stoke.

Balotelli Fails to Convince
Brendan Rodgers recalled Mario Balotelli to the starting XI in the lone striker role for the QPR clash, but witnessed another wasteful display as his side needed two own goals to beat the basement-dwellers. With frustration amongst the Reds’ faithful now palpable, the situation up front is a far cry from Liverpool’s fluid and threatening forward line of 12 months ago. To compound matters, Rodgers confirmed post-match that Daniel Sturridge is set be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a calf injury, putting the onus on Balotelli to produce if the Reds are to take full advantage of a kind schedule which see them face Hull, Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and Leicester in the next six.

Sterling’s Still Ticking Over
Despite a multitude of concerns surrounding Raheem Sterling’s fitness after his recent international duties, Liverpool’s starlet played the full 90 minutes at Loftus Road and earned an assist and two bonus points. Whilst the Reds’ forwards may be toiling, the winger has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts and sits just two points off the top of the FPL midfield standings. Though Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard threw their hats into the ring with attacking returns yesterday, Sterling still looks the likeliest source of points across those aforementioned fixtures.

Super Sub Vargas Bags A Brace
The Chilean climbed off the bench to score twice for Harry Redknapp’s side in a 12-minute cameo that should see him press for a starting role for QPR’s home encounter with Aston Villa in Gameweek 9. Vargas has now produced two goals, an assist and three bonus points across his last couple of appearances, though at 6.4 still looks too big a punt in a side who have lost four of their last five league outings. The Hoops have five strong fixtures in their next seven (AVL, new, LEI, swa, BUR) that could help turnaround their fortunes, though despite making changes at the back and between the posts, Harry Redknapp’s defence continues to look there for the taking– yesterday’s loss means they have now conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven league matches.

Bony’s Form Looking Up
Yesterday’s penalty strike means the Ivorian now has back-to-back goals to his name, and is finally starting to find his form ahead of an enticing home clash with Leicester next weekend. Available for 8.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Bony struggled in the early stages of this season, but his starting spot now looks secure, and with Swansea not having won since Gameweek 3, his rediscovered eye for goal could prove key if they are to turn their fortunes around. However, the Swans’ following three fixtures after the Foxes meeting (eve, ARS, mci) may well deter investors until Gameweek 13.

Sigurdsson On The Slide
His performance against the Potters saw the playmaker leave the field early after serving up a fourth blank in the last five Gameweeks, as his early-season consistency certainly shows signs of waning. Sigurdsson’s recent international displays, allied with his 10-point haul in Gameweek 7, had many hoping he would be able to produce against Mark Hughes’ men, but a total of just nine successful passes in the final third and no shots registered was indicative of his minimal impact. With his form floundering and so many other midfield options flourishing right now, some may consider looking elsewhere once the Leicester game is out of the way.

Stoke Midfield Hit Their Stride
Victor Moses was again in the points yesterday after controversially winning his side’s first-half penalty. That’s now four assists in the Nigerian’s last four appearances, though, despite a favourable 5.5 price tag, he continues to bubble under with an ownership of just 0.4%. It was Charlie Adam who stepped up to take the spot kick and, though he had dropped deeper to cover for the absence of Glen Whelan, the Scot’s penalty-taking duties have ensured he has now netted in each of his last two outings. With Oussama Assaidi and Jon Walters also in the points for the Potters yesterday, their midfield is starting to show some appeal, though managers should be wary that they face a dire upcoming schedule (sou, WHM, tot, BUR , liv, mun, ARS) with those two home encounters looking the only attractive fixtures right now.

Chadli is the one to keep now, but having both can´t be a bad thing if you don´t have other issues in your team.

          Chadli to who?

What's the rest of your team as I'm guessing downgrading Chadli will mean switching from a 5 man midfield to 3 strikers?

I did Costa --> Pelle right before he hit Costa hit his hat trick a month or so ago. Couldn't be doing with the stress of will he / won't he play. Felt good.

It's worked out well too as Pelle has same points as costa for 3.5m less.

2 Fts and 0 in the bank. Thoughts on what to do?

    DDG
Moreno Bertrand Wisdom ( Duff, Chester )
    Di Maria Tadic Sigurdsson Sterling
    Costa Aguero Pelle

    Have a few in mind:
    A) Sterling + Moreno + DDG ----> Eriksen + Baines + Foster/4.8

    B) Sterling + Moreno ---> Chadli + Baines w/o DDG--->Lloris

    C) DDG + Moreno + Chester ----> Foster/4.6 + Coleman + S.Taylor

    D) Your suggestion

or Maybe like Moreno+Chester out for Alcaraz and Kaboul or something?

    Cheers 🙂

Yeh, its all a bit odd really. He scored shed loads of goals in his previous Swansea stint, but so far only 1 in the league for them and a glut of assists. Still the best value player in that price range so far, and likely to remain so.

True about the cup. I tend not to count internationals so much as the player can often be playing in a different position etc.

He has scored 4 in 4 or something only one pen. Obviously they dont count but its pretty clear he does have goals in him...not sure what is going on though, barely even having shots!

2 of his next 4 though. With price rises being the way they are, there is merit to shipping him after LEI and get him back later on. Chadli/Mane could get good points over those 3 weeks.

Chadli is just about be the only one I will consider below 7.8M

Could do Sigurdsson > Chadli then Tadic > Sigurdsson as his turn sour when Siggys are good again.

That's why I'm thinking I may go with Chadli/Mane/Eriksen/Tadic (depends how much money I have) and then switch back if Swansea pick up again after their difficult fixtures.

I feel really stupid for making my two free trades now.

    Team before:
    Krul, Mannone
    Bertrand, Bardsley, Naylor, (PVA, Moore)
Fabregas, Sterling, Tadic, Sigurdsson, Di Maria
    Costa, Aguero, (Vaz Te)

    0m in the bank

I traded Krul and PVA out for Guzan and Duff because sunderland had horrible fixtures coming up so one of mannone or PVA had to go, and despite Newcastle's cs this gw, I still think they're shite.

Now that I think of it, I should probably have made other trades like sterling to Henderson and PVA to Baines.

What are your thoughts on the trades I made and what would you have done instead?

Aye...but Costa > Aguero is an easy trade because the worst case scenario is use end up with Aguero instead of Costa for a game or two...I can think of a lot worse things than that...

Costa > Aguero > Costa (when the time is right) seems so sensible.

I'd keep Naylor this week; Leicester are shockingly bad away from home.

I'd shift Cesc though out of those.

They've got a goal in them though, and Swansea's fixtures become awful afterwards

Got 2FTs and no other players i want to shift for a while

Is Welbz > Pelle a sideways transfer or worth it if you have 2 FTs and nothing to use them on?

    1. Fader
      • 10 Years
      10 years, 14 days ago

Worth it. Welbeck needs too many chances and they have Walcott back soon and no doubt Giroud can't be too far away

Walcott makes Danny more attractive as an FPL asset. Giroud is out until January, no?

Either way keep Danny, he has leaky SUN next 😉

Seen a fair few posts saying that captaining Costa and vc Aguero was not luck but the right thing to do. This may be true in hindsight but it suggests they expected Costa to score higher if he had played. As it's unlikely he would gave got near Aguero's score than it's a massive piece of luck. 😉

The big transfer topic last week was a choice between...

Costa and Aguero with a mid priced fwd
    or
Costa/Aguero and Baines with two mid priced fwds

What's the verdict after one week ?...does a score draw seem fair ?

CL worries for us FPL managers in the four teams.

    City.
I think Aguero might not start. Lampard is out. Everyone is selling Silva, and Milner is injury-proof?
    Does anybody have anyone else?

    Chelsea.
Again, see rest for major players (Hazard/Oscaar/Costa) and maybe, Fabregas as well.

    Liverpool.
Will play their best team. Gerrard and Sterling are the only ones we care about. Especially Sterling, a fatigue-induced injury is a possibility.

    Arsenal.
Everyone can get injured anytime. No rest since we have 11 fit players.
