Six Premier League matches, not a single clean sheet. Can someone at the FPL approve a 1-7-3 formation?

We went into Saturday’s matches with United facing West Brom at fortress Old Trafford, Arsenal up against a Birmingham side low on confidence and without Cameron Jerome, Newcastle hosting a goal-shy Wigan. It didn’t look too much to ask to expect at least one clean sheet from that lot.

Instead investors in Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Tim Krul, and the one-week budget offer that is Johan Djourou, were left empty handed. Arsenal’s fragility was again exposed, this time by the towering Nikola Zigic, Van der Sar uncharacteristially blundered two points against Di Matteo’s refreshingly cavalier Baggies, and Newcastle were undone by a proper Charile N’Zogbia performance.

As this is typed the league’s best defence is largely unoccupied, while Chelsea’s midfield dominate the second period at Villa Park. Perhaps Carlo Ancelotti’s side will once again be the Fantasy Manager’s saving grace?

Then we have Man City to come on Sunday as they hop on the bus to Blackpool. They can expect waves of attack at the seaside; the word “cagey” doesn’t exist in the Blackpool vocabularly and I can’t see Holloway involving himself in a game of chess with the cultured Roberto Mancini. City won’t have it easy then, but maybe they can join Chelsea as the two continue to run away with the clean sheet count.

Aside from that pair of defensive dependables, Fantasy Managers are left scratching for returns at the back. The trend towards mid-price or cheap defensive options who can offer the threat of attacking points – Seamus Coleman of Everton, Elmohamady of Sunderland, Chris Samba of Blackburn and perhaps Gary Cahill of Bolton, is surely set to continue.

Can anyone really back the Arsenal defence until Thomas Vermaelen returns from injury? Do we expect Untied to travel to Stoke or indeed, to host Spurs the Gameweek after, and keep them at bay? Not even the mid-price defences, who have provided a modicum of efficiency in previous seasons – Aston Villa, Stoke, Birmingham, Fulham – seem to provide any real potential that can be relied on.

Find me a defender out of position or at least one who can offer a real threat from set-plays. After today’s heavy load of dirty laundry, I’m beginning to give up on the hunt for clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Are you debating the offside? If so, I think the advantage should go with the attacking team if it's tight, but it never ever does. However in this case I think he's clearly offside. And he's clearly interfering with play.

at no stage did he interfere with the ball flight, obstruct the keepers view or put the keeper off in anyway. if the lineman had not put his flag up there would have been no more said about it apart from it being a great strike and a great goal.

He went to kick the ball and missed by a few inches. That attempt to kick the ball made the keeper make a slight hesitation. That hesitation was enough to prevent him from saving it.

Nigel de Jong's leg-breaker should not be a yard-stick for red cards. That sort of thinking is part of the problem.

Dangerous, yes. A red cad, clearly. But he slid in out of frustration after mis-controlling the ball. A horror tackle to me is one where the player sets out to maim.

I did Bale > VdV this morning and it's already looking like a decent move. Was a bit worried when i saw BAE on the teamsheet and Bale on the left wing but i've been wanting VdV for a while. Maybe Alex > Bosingwa? Would that raise enough £££?

That does raise enough money, but there is no guarantee that Bosingwa would be starting every game. How about Samba after the Blackburn vs Chelsea game?

Samba will play every game that is a cert! I'd just be a bit nervous about having no Chelsea defenders. I sold Alex a couple of weeks back and have been regretting it (till he got injured obviously but i missed out on his big GW)

Bale to Brunt and do Malouda > Fabs next week or just do Bale > VdV and maybe get Fabs for a hit the following GW?

    What do you think?

Just thinking ahead here but how do these moves over the next 2 weeks sound? So I can have Fab and Arteta in place for GW 10.

    Current Team
    Hahnemann - Foster
    Konchesky - Alex - Shawcross - Enrique - Jara
    Malouda - Nani - Nasri - VDV - Dempsey
    Berbatov - Carrol - Drogba

GW9- Nasri for N'Zogbia/Adam & Alex for Bosingwa
GW10- Malouda for Fabs & Dempsey for Arteta

      sorry, fat fingers -

      GW9 - Malouda > Essien
      GW10 - Bale - VDV
      GW11 - Alex - Cole

good plan, assuming no Cole doesnt go up in price?

Cole will probably go up in price. But you have to think that once Lampard goes back, Essien will slide back to a more defensive position and Lampard plays in the more advanced role

Essien - is that just to fund Cole later, as his returns no better than Malouda of late really?

Apart from GW10: Gerrad to Fabregas I'm not sure what to do now. A lot of players I'd like to get in like N'Zog, Piquionne, Cole at some point, lose Hahnemann, Albrighton but can't afford it (or have to succumb to WC).

Bt people are already selling this GW - mostly for Tevez who may play twice before the next GW and doesn't have that decent a fixture next week. Each to their own, I guess...

Wow three really solid options between 5.2-5.4
Can't decide between Adam, Brunt, or N'Zogbia.

Leaning towards Adam at the moment, even with N'Zogbia and Brunt's performances today.

Also Bosingwa looked decent in his 15 minute cameo today. Heard the reports saying he'll surely start next weekend. Could be a snip at 5.6 if he consistently starts. Chelsea is the only defense we can rely on these days!

I cant decide on those mids either.

N'Zogbia is going to outscore Adam in the GWs to come I feel. But everything goes through Adam at Blackpool and hes on Freekicks and pens.

Really tough choices. I may get 2/3 of them.
