A tasty home tie with the bottom-of-the-table team saw Fantasy managers transfer in Arsenal players in their droves prior to today’s games, but thanks to the heriocs of Rob Green, the vast majority will be bitterly disappointed.

The West Ham keeper made a fantastic 10 saves as he kept the Gunners at bay time and again before Alex Song finally made the breakthrough for Arsene Wenger’s side with an 88th minute header.

On the back of last week’s impressive 3-0 win at Eastlands, Samir Nasri was acquired by 172,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, Marouanne Chamakh by 107,000 and Cesc Fabregas by 48,000, as many expected a rout against Avram Grant’s strugglers. Indeed, our Captain’s Poll was fairly indicative of this optimism, with all three being in the top four slots for Gameweek 10.

Song, on the other hand, was brought in by a mere 4,000 managers, despite his goal at Man City last Sunday. Bearing in mind he is owned by only 2.6% of FPL bosses, the fact he has outscored the aforementioned players shouldn’t, therefore, have too much effect on the overall team rankings.

Song has now found the net 3 times in the league already this season, and given that his previous season’s best has been 1 goal, he’s showing a fair eye for goal this time round. He seems to have been given a remit to roam further forward than he’s used to, and so far it’s paying off.

Arsenal have now won their last five games in all competitions, but are making hard work of things at the Emirates in the league of late. Their last three home matches has seen a loss and two wins by just the one goal against opponents they have been expected to dispatch of with ease. Gameweek 11 allows them the opportunity to remedy that, as Newcastle make a trip to the Emirates.

Results elsewhere mean the much-maligned Green can take no consolation at all in his display, as fellow strugglers Wolves win over Man City gives them a three point gap over the Hammers at the bottom. Still, there’s always a bright side, Rob. At least you don’t do this every week.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Some quick maths tells me I cost myself 18 points by making two extra transfers to bring in Fabregas this week and then captaining him over Nani. Sickening.

      Not for me.

Fabregas can do nothing in a 1-0 win and still walk away with 11 points without raising an eyelid. In a 1-0 with Nani "doing nothing" and he'll walk away with 3 points.

      ...for starters.

      I dunno.

Nani has really turned it up this season, but I'm still not entirely confident in giving him the armband.

Fabregas will be heavily involved if Arsenal win at Newcastle. I guess I'll wait and see.

I have to say that that's very generous to Fabregas. He was far from his best today, and quite frankly plenty of players could have had more points if they were luckier or performed better.

To be honest his finishes let him down and I never really saw all the times he set up his team mates for clear chances, because in the game I watched West Ham held the line very well.

Fabregas gets a 6/10 on the Gargamel scale today. Good but not more.

What the deal with this VDV injury!? Tell me hes ok because if hes not my main rical can get nani in, after getting cesc in this week because of Tevez. Cesc & Nani were going to be my big differentials from him as he had no way of getting them before grrrr.

A hamstring pull seemingly. I'm not too bothered if he needs benching next week, it's the two after that I hope he's back for.

Could really do with himself missing next week. Need him to go down to afford a Nasri > VDV switcheroo

Problem for me is there's 3 gameweeks inside 8 days, I have no clue on the damage but I can see me getting pissed off at him being absent for a very short amount of real-time but missing a "long stretch" of FPL fixtures...

It was the smart move. If it wasnt for Green being decent for once it could have been different.

It wasn't a good move in the short term.

Dempsey at home against Wigan was as good as it gets, so waiting one week couldn't have hurt.

It happens though. You make mistakes.

Come on Camzy, easy to say in hindsight. Fabregas scoring 16 would have been far worse for him rather than missing out on Dempseys 16.

So you guys think Wenger will play Nasri vs Shakhtar and give him a rest in the Newcastle game?

was thinking of getting Nasri before the price rise tonight, but I think its too risky, think Ill wait til later in the week

I'd get him in now if it's a straight swap.

He won't be rested for the league. He's Arsenal's most valuable player this season, and in the best form.

Remember, players aren't supposed to get injured.

It's a completely calculated risk, and 9/10 it'll come off.

Ok, I'm getting Bale out as I refuse to lose anymore money on him. Which player do I get next week for one week only? Tim Cahill or Silva? I'll be moving them on to VDV for the week after, (if the Dutchman's fit).

A week is a long time in football. CL?Eurupa Cup games this week = waiting is best option unless you want Cahill.

I'd rather wait than get stuck with Cahill. Better players of yours may also get injured forcing you into taking hits.

          +1

Who cares about 0.1? Unless you can't do your desired move without that 0.1 then it is dumb. Just asking for trouble.

I'm just getting pissed off with Bale, and it would be the final nail in the coffin if I was to make zilch off him in the end after buying him initially for 6.6M.

No VDV can only help Bale. He's going to leave my team soon & I don't care if I make nothing off him.

I want VDV for GW12 and GW13, he gets way more involved and has more shots. Bale seems to stay out wide, like hogging the touchline. It's not like he cuts in and gets a lot of shots away.
