[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

You could nearly make a half decent eleven with the players who didn’t play this Gameweek. I was tempted to sit and try and get a team together just to highlight this fact and, well, I could have done it but it got a bit contrived. (Alex Baptiste?)

Needless to say there was a number of high profile absentees which left some gaping holes in players teams and pushed peoples benches to breaking point. Of those missing Nasri, Adam and Alex were irritations but it was the absence of out of position defenders El-Mohammady and Coleman which will have got players worried.

Much is made of the out of position player and to find one is, well, it’s great. To find two therefore is, without wanting to sound lame, absolutely amazing. Many will have both these players as their respective price, attacking potential and ability to keep clean sheets will have made them obvious picks. To have them both out and to etch doubts into our collective minds about their ability to start games going forward is an unwanted distraction. Indeed many have already discussed potentially taking these players out of their teams.

One key thing to consider and remember is the fact that at this time of year, as games come thick and fast, Premier League managers do tend to rotate. This is especially true in situations where games come on Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday. It’s important to take a FFS team deep breath, step back and appreciate the fact that rotation does happen, particularly with players of lower value. This is the knee jerk and the knee jerk reaction is to remove these players. Going forward we don’t know if this is just a rest or if this is a long term issue therefore it’s worth waiting to see what will materialise. For example in Coleman’s case Fellaini’s late red card should lead to a shuffle in the Everton midfield. This could mean Heitinga being called into the centre or a re-call for Coleman.

Elsewhere it was another week of captains under performing. Before the games (and particularly during) people were talking about dropping Drogba, Fabregas and Malouda. Whilst there may be some merit in considering other options such as Torres, who appears to have found his goal scoring form, surely it is only a matter of time before these big hitters begin to find form again. As such my logic follows as above, hold tight. Knee Jerkers (the players, not the articles) tend to act quick, spend points and regret their moves a couple of weeks later. Patience is advised.

Overall though its fair to say these midweek games have been ones to forget. Thankfully we only have to wait two more days until the weekend. Expect more rotation and more headaches going forward. Stay tuned on the site and through our Twitter for updates.

Hey folks, thinking of making one freebie... Think I wanna upgrade Samba but not sure who for.. Got 1.2m in the bank and already have Robinson in goal. Reasonably happy with my attack for now

    Foster/Robinson
    Alex/Jags/Samba/Elmo/Jara
    Nani/Malouda/Fabs/Adam/N'Zogbia
    Drogba/Odemwingie/Carroll

    Thoughts?

Konchesky gives you the cheapest option into the Liverpool defence. Got rid of the swine last gameweek, for Alex who then didn't play.

Got comprehensively belted in the Scout Cup 61-36 after what looked like a promising week, only having 9 starters really didn't do wonders for my hope of another successive green arrow and progression in the cup.

after transfer (have one more if needed) Bale to VDV done (4 weeks too late!)

    Carson (Foster)
    Enrique/Coleman/Cole
    Brunt/Nzog/Fabs/VDV (c)
    Drogba/Carroll/Piqionne

    Subs Nani/Jones/Gohouri

Feel Nani should play but for who? Brunt has been doing ok really.

I have a not so cheap defence line of Richards - Oshea - Alex - Coleman - Dann , out of which only the cheapest [ Dann ] is regular ... who should get the boot this GW ? WTH is wrong with Richards ?

I think having a more expensive defence isn't such a bad thing at the moment. I've got a cheap defence and I've paid the price this week. Only 1 defender played more than 60 minutes.

I'd get rid of Richards. Too much competition in that team. I'd go for Konchesky or, if your looking to save money, Simpson from Newcastle.

      Agreed with the Canary.

Out of that bunch, wave goodbye to Richards. As like O'Shea, he isn't a nailed on first starter.

Richards to Boateng gives you exposure to those City defensive points. Although this is something of a sideways move.

I feel the time to jump on him is early and take a risk, the minute he has a big week most will jump on, I need one good week to boost my position in my table so feel its a move worth gambling on.

This week I made an awful sideways move of bringing Malouda back in, it had sideways results, I need to take a risk and think forward.

You had the guts & he returned a respectable points haul. With moment to spare . . .

At a guess Kolorov will be eased back in. Slowly building up his playing time. If you're looking to bring in a City defender this gameweek, then out of the two Boateng is your man.

Might take a points hit to bring Nani back in this gameweek. Or save for a double next week. Arteta will be waved goodbye.

When Kolorov nails down a first team spot. He'll be cracking value. Loves foraging forward, good free kick taker & seems to shoot on sight of goal.

Watched a few Utd games. The defence isn't solid enough to justify investment. There are only two nailed on starters - Evra & Vidic. Too much money for me.

If you fell it'll work for you, go for it.

hutton's also a rotation risk, so u'll have hutton, coleman n elmo at risk. a bit too much if u ask me

wolves, stoke or west ham have gd fixtures so u might consider their defenders

Colaman and elmo are good. What you have to do is have three defenders who play regularly plus those two , then if they dont play you covered.
Coleman was just rested , hes still young and three games in a week asking a lot. Elmo was sacrificed due to tough opposition , that shouldnt worry you because you only want to play him against easy teams anyway

hi all, this is around the time when my fpl season start to implode so i need some help around here.

    team is:

    foster, krul

    elmo, figueroa, konchesky, jacobson, jara

    fabs, nani, VDV, arteta, adam

    drog, carrol, berba

    1.8 in bank

got the cash fr selling ferdinand (when he finally got a cs), thinking of switching berba for tevez in view of the fixtures followed by a cheapie to a wolves def next wk, maybe foley or stearman

    any other ideas?

There are more important priorities in teh midfield/front. Most people are just benching Jara, as that does not hurt anyway. Also CS are hard to come by !!

I disagree , far to many players just swap like for like in midfield or attack , ie nani in , nani out etc, when what they should be doing is sorting out their weakest links.

yeh but the point is that clean sheets are hard to find this season so you don't wan to play many defenders ever... lots of people playing 3 at the back. This means that the fifth defender slot is slightly redundant / not worth heavy investment anyway

tevez in for sure. wolves defense useless no matter who they are playing. Simpson from Newcastle is super cheap. Jacobson from WHU? Not good. Get rid of him too. Actually...maybe your defense needs restructuring. You can downgrade berba to k. davies or someone and spend some cash on defense.

VdV is a points machine, but with his balky hamstring, Defoe returning, and rotation prospects with CL games coming, it is a bit of a worry if he will miss games. That risk aside, VdV for Arteta is a very good move.

I am considering the same move and two others, which do you like:

        (1) Arteta--->VdV

        (2) Berbatov, Arteta---->Fabregas, Odemwingie (4 point hit)

        (3) Berbatov, Arteta----->Torres, N'Zogbia/Brunt (4 point hit)

Before the Man Utd game he struggled, and I think was subbed off a few eeks ago. With Kolarov getting back, and Zabaleta Mancini's teacher's pet, seems a bit risky. I suggest passing on Boateng. Once Kolarov gets fit and becomes a regular, he is the one to get (says me and a thousand others here, so not an original thought).

Boateng has played the last six and been subbed out in two. I agree on Kolarov but bojan is correct - they are the left and right backs. My plan would be to take Boateng now and once Kolarov is clearly first choice to sign him up instead because of his greater attacking potential.

            Shoot myself?

No idea at the moment, all the sensible obvious moves I make are collapsing immediately!

Had Chamakh for those two great home games...took him out this week for Tevez - this is the sort of thing I'm talking about.

Thanks bud. Yeah, not enough actual pts is making me lag behind.

Ive been lucky the last 2 gw's with opponents taking hits and the fact that they had "strange" teams.

This week is going to be a tough "nut" to crack though. Teams very similar both have 2 free trades.

It looks like it as i'm k*k in the Southern X and my mini league.

A bit negative and disinterested at the moment. Getting all the info on FFS but on the pitch things are not happening.

Same for me over the past 5 weeks. Lost 4 FFS H2Hs but somehow won this week with 40 to stay 4th. Don't know where my next big week is coming. Players like Bale, Barton & my defenders are holding me back. 🙁

Essien red card and 3 points? Proves there is no human element to the points. Pure stats where cards don't count.

Would thought that proves the opposite actually. He got sent off after 90 minutes having scored the only goal, so any human knows that the red was irrelevant

I don't think so. He was the best player on the pitch by far but red cards just aren't irrelevant whenever they happen are they? The timing of the card just meant he had 90 mins of stats to build up.

What should I do with Milner?
    I have already:
    Fabregas
    Bale
    Nani
    Arteta

Should I stick with him or make a transfer? -> Whom should I transfer him; VdV / Young?

TM - you sticking it out with Arteta? I would have felt better in selling him had he scored in last 2 games. Now Im worried i wont have him when he runs into points!

Just posted above. Forgot to mention Arteta. He gets another week for me unless I want to take a hit in a double midfield change.

Unfort I missed all the detective work that must have gone down over the weekend. So who "exposed" you and how did it go down???

I left in a huff on Friday night about 10.00ish.
Reading through the subsequent posts of that night on Saturday morning - couldn't believe it! - never mind. I said I wouldn't come back. May change my mind though. Look out for me in the future eh.
