The pre-match build-up may not have centred around on-pitch matters, but the ruthless performance of Man City at Craven Cottage this afternoon soon put paid to any thoughts Mark Hughes may have had of vengeance.

City came into this game having failed to score in their previous two games and with just three goals in their last five. Within half an hour, though, the Carlos Tevez-inspired visitors were three-nil up and coasting as their former boss (and the on-looking Diego Maradona) saw Fulham played off the park.

More that a hint of bitterness hung over this game as Hughes spoke of his treatment at the hands of the Abu Dhabi-owned club, following last season’s sacking:

They made the change with the view that they wanted to accelerate the process of getting success. That doesn’t seem to have happened. I know what I left behind, that the club and the group of players I had there was good enough to hit the targets I was given. I knew they had to spend significantly more money last summer – that opportunity was going to be given to myself. It wasn’t.

With two goals and an assist, Tevez also bagged the 3 Bonus Points, boosting his Fantasy Premier League tally to 85 points and making him the third-highest scoring player in the game. The irony that Hughes was the man who brought him to the club will not have been lost on many as Fulham, deprived of their two main strikers through injury, struggled to make an impact. A deflected Zoltan Gera strike offered little comfort for the home side, but was at least enough to prevent City chalking up their fourth clean sheet on the trot.

In the closest-run season for a long time, City now sit just three points off the top, in spite of recent criticism over their playing style. Mark Hughes, on the other hand, sits fourth from bottom, with only goal difference keeping Fulham out of the drop zone.

What a difference a year makes.

Just playing around with my team, getting rid of Drogba opens up all sorts of possibilities:

    Drogba - Elmander
    Adam - VDV
    Jara - Vidic

      I'd be very, very wary.

Defense heavy teams look great now, but wait until ManUtd start conceding, and they will, and Vidic will be pulling in 1s and 2s, not to mention a red card that is very much a possibility.

You're altering your entire team shape, and that is impossible to undo unless you have a wildcard.

        Nice score and rank, Camzy.

Your point is well made though. I didn't get Vidic because, when I thought about it, £7.6m is too much money for a Man Utd defender. He won't keep scoring goals and I don't trust them to keep cleanies very often. Plus, if you want Drogba back he's probably the guy you'll need to get rid of.

I have Tevez and I think he's a good differential to Drogba for now and that may stay the same all season long. Who knows?

The next WC window opens in GW23, so teams can always be amended then to accommodate getting Drogba back.

I'm tempted to get Torres in for Drogba until January.

Liverpool have kind fixtures after Tottenham, and he's an amazing striker. The only thing that worries me is that Liverpool are Gerrard-less, and that could really impact Torres' scoring.

Got a question for yall. A defender needs to play 60mins to get 4pts fir a cleanie. Say he comes on, on the 35th min and plays 5mins of stoppage time, does he still get the cleanie?

Anyone else thinking of doubling up on Davies and Elmander this weekend?

Playing long term doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere, so I've come up with a short term plan. Two transfers will get me to:

    A Cole -> Rafael
    Odemwingie -> Elamander

    VdS
    Rafael / Coleman / Jagielka
    Fabregas / Bale / Kalou / Nani / Etherington
    K Davies / Elmander

    What do you think?

I think you need to upgrade one of your strikers (not to another Bolton, though!) - Davies, Piquionne and Odem is pretty weak / fixture dependant.

If you can afford Kalou to VDV, that makes sense. Pedersen (Blackburn) is in-form and has good fixtures after Man Utd away next GW.

Might as well wait until the midweek Champions League fixtures before getting VDV in - you've missed the 0.1 increase, he'll only go up by another 0.1 til after the CL games.

I'd go for Kolarov over Vidic just cos of the price difference.

ah, OK, still a risk to get VDV with his recent slight hamstring problem, and the fact that he's not the fittest player. Depends how much you need the 0.1, really, sensible to wait.

See what happens in the CL game. Not too sure about the Terry situation, all depends on that. If Terry is fit enough to be in the CL squad, they'll probably send Alex in for the surgery he needs. If Terry is out for a while, they'll wait.

Zabaleta went to the right today, but he's been playing on the left as well. and he got the highlights today.

surely Kolarov and Boateng are first choice when healthy, (i think), but seems some rotation may still be in the cards. disagree?

Citeh have so many good players that rotation is always going to be a problem, but I think Kolarov could be the safest (apart from Toure, who has no attacking potential), just cos Bridge on the left is less likely to play than Richards on the right.

Wouldn't make much sense to keep an £18m player on the bench. But then again, their bench is studded with players who cost a small fortune.

true, but Boateng is an 11m player and he sat today. the preseason concern for both was that they might rest on occasion for the easier games, which is exactly when we want them in. having dropped a few tenths in the early stages, i was willing to go for it and at this price can live with him being an occasional no-show. hopefully it doesn't happen often.

Was listening to the game on radio.

I cringed when Kolarov was 1 on 1 with the 'keeper. Quiet elated when City conceded too.

He's going to be an absolute bargain soon.

he really should have converted that chance, but nice to see a defender leading the break on a counter and it was a very nice first touch that put him in one-on-one,

Regretting having dumped VDV last week in view of tough fixtures, but I am sticking with it for now:

    Foster
    ACole/Vidic/Foley
    T Cahill (C)/Fabregas/Nani/Adam
    Drogba/K Davies/Carroll

Gilks, Givet, Albrighton and Simpson on the bench.

    Any changes?

as a FOOTball fan it makes obvious sense
hes the best united right back ,so why not?

well , for FF reasons u cant do it!!!
the fact is united have three quality rbs as jafstar has pointed out, picking one of them, would only subject urself to endless torment as they did or did not get picked!

You've got to stop with multiple transfers.

Pick one transfer only, you can do it.

it's difficult at times, but this is very sound advice if you're looking to climb the rankings.

on the other hand, transfers are fun, so if you don't care where you finish.....

Two transfers at a time is actually ideal.

If you can, try rolling them over, because you can accomplish a lot more with two free transfers than just the one.

I'm stopping myself from making these two free early transfers.. I know its not always good to make early transfers especially in a CL week but I really wanna miss price rises and falls.. IF i did them today I would have .3 left in the bank, so not sure how much longer I should wait..

      Too late on both bandwagons.

You should have made them Saturday night if you really wanted to avoid the rises.

Now, you might as well wait until after the CL games.

    A. Drogba, Adam, Kolarov
    B. Elmander, Malouda, Vidic, -4 pts

Thinking A since Drogba will come good and there's no way Bolton can keep this up!
Both involve getting VDV and coincidentally leave me with 1.1 in the bank

Sure Elmander cant keep scoring 15 Points every week.[Hell no one can] But he is consistently performing and great value and has great Fixtures ahead.

Its not like he had scored 2 pointers throughout and scored 20 Points this gameweek.

And regarding Vidic, sure he can keep it up.

      Set pieces.

He's a good buy if Rovers are scoring and doing well on the whole, because he's bound to get assists and the odd goal from the free kicks and corners he takes (not the long throws, we haven't scored from a long throw in over two seasons...)
