“The times they are a-changin’.”

Bob Dylan, October 1963

This song was written almost half a century ago but Dylan clearly had what’s to come right on the precipice of his mind. That’s right, Johan Elmander is leading the captain’s poll. If ever there was a sign that times were and are changing in this Fantasy season, this would certainly be it. We’re not in Kansas anymore…

“Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen, and keep your eyes wide the chance won’t come again.”

It’s taken him a fair bit longer than expected to settle into life in the Premier league, but alongside Chung-Yong Lee, Elmander is somewhat perversely proving Gary Megson makes a great scout if an ill-bodied manager. This season, under the stewardship of Owen Coyle, he has begun to flourish, much to the surprise of the many who had previously written the Swede off as a Premier League flop. With 8 goals, 5 assists and 13 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points Elmander is the current value pick for the season and your lead candidate for the armband.

Evidently, following the lack of assurances the “obvious” picks have been able to provide in recent weeks – the next step in line is to play a bit more fast and loose and bank on a form player against a defence which is known for conceding the odd goal or two.

“The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast, the slow one now, will later be fast”

It’s not like this is some kind of runaway victory for Elmander though, evidence so far points to an incredibly close race with Nani a mere handful of votes in the wake of the Bolton striker, and with good cause considering his home form and the visit of Blackburn for him and his United cohorts this week. The news of Newcastle’s second string centre-back pairing sees Didier Drogba well in the reckoning for another crack at the whip as well.

Rafael Van Der Vaart, Carlos Tevez and even Wayne Rooney following his penalty at Rangers, are also well and truly in the reckoning.

If you’ve not let us know of your decision, or you’ve not yet made one, why not stew on it briefly and then head back to the frontpage and rock the vote. Make sure it counts.

“And the first one now will later be last, for the times they are a-changin’.”

Between these three for my Fabs replacement
    A. VDV (obvious choice, but an injury risk for this weekend, and I already have quite a few players out...can always wait a week)
    B. Nasri (keeps Arsenal coverage, but fixtures aren't great)
    C. Kuyt (differential, on PK's, good fixtures)

Don't want Cahill (just dropped Arteta...before his goal)

I think the Hammers will win 1-0 with a 4-6-0 formation and catch Wigan on the break for one goal. This could be the game that makes or breaks Avram Grant (although he's not out of trouble if the Hammers win). Scott Parker to score.

Might have already been discussed but just appeared on The Arsenal website and I was willing to Keep Cesc but this statement worries me alarmingly and as such he is a gooner(!)......

Fabregas’ hamstring has already kept him out of four of Arsenal’s 14 Premier League games this season and he is set to miss at least a couple more. Wenger’s concern is obvious and he wants answers. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-we-re-investigating-cesc-s-injury?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+arsenal-news+%28News+Feed%29

It's the bit where it says, he is likely to miss at least a couple more(weeks). If he was back mid(ish) December is Wenger likely to play during the whole Xmas and NY period? I doubt very much.

Yeah that is the conclusion I have drawn upon. Also on the AFC website, was interesting to note Wenger state: "Wenger has admitted he may give the midfielder extra time to recover from his latest setback". Enough said.

Is Silva set to start now for City, nearly every game? With the hint of rotation here and there. I am looking to get someone in for Fabregas and Silva at the moment is standing out, yet to produce a brace, its got to be coming. Hmmmm, Who is everyone getting in (Without the hit for say Tevez). Just the straight Fabregas -> ------

      I have a similar dilemma.

I'm looking at two of the following:

      Torres, Rooney, Tevez.

If I go Torres and Tevez, I still have Nani.
Rooney and Tevez - I'd get Kuyt
Rooney and Torres - I'd get Silva.

      Can't really decide.

Option A by a landslide. Better fixtures, better players, better form, more reliable, more potential...

Don't trust Rooney yet, and his fixtures aren't even good enough to take a risk on him! Not to mention you can always switch to him if he starts doing well.

Was always really my plan. Have a bit of a 6 week plan (I'd be doing well to follow it though)

If you get Silva, I'm dropping you from "My Rivals" on TotalFPL 😛

He's badly overrated. His record in Spain is like Arteta's. But to make matters worse, now, he's a potential rotation risk, he's not on set pieces, and Tevez is taking all the bonus points.

If I had the choice now I would choose Cahill over Arteta every day of the week. But I have Arteta now, the bonus with him also is he is on penalties. One of the reasons I am clinging on to him. You have made the right decision in hindsight though.

    Fabregas to Nasri
    Fabregas to Kuyt?

This Fabregas replacement saga is annoying me, a lot. He needs to go, but I don't know who for, downgrading to someone like MGP isn't really an option as my front 3 are Drogba Elmander Carroll. I was thinking Nasri but then Arsenal's fixtures aren't good. Silva, 4-1 win and he got nothing out of the game. Then there are the cheaper players like MGP and well, who else? Any suggestions/reasons please would be greatly appreciated

Hmmm, Getting rid of Carroll is interesting, I actually have nothing against him, But I think there may be better alternatives, but then again. I want to do it this week because of the weather, and I have a guaranteed 11 if I get rid of Fabs and that is without a hit. (Presuming Newcastle game is called off, preparing for the worst etc.) But I wanted to wait until next week to see what the options are, all the fixtures are either favourable or non-favourable for said teams from that point onwards (For a few weeks at least) so I wanted to see how Balotelli performed, Tevez, Rooney and Torres. Which means that I want one of them thinking about it. So perhaps just downgrade Fabs to someone cheap who will play, who though, MGP next week onwards looks good, but this week, well, not so much.

I want Pederson, not so bothered about Liverpool coverage. I think I'll be alright without it (Fingers crossed) but will get Konchesky in for Hutton when I can. Samba, meh. He doesn't bother me. I want Man City coverage mainly. I have my plan sorted now.

Nasri. Look beyond the fixtures, it's Arsenal we're talking about, they can score against anyone.

He's just as good as Arshavin who's nearly 2.0 more expensive, and he's on good form and guaranteed starts. He'll also take Fabregas' central creative role, and now, he's on set pieces and penalties (-RVP).

Replaced him with Pedersen, don't really plan on playing him this gw but with his rising and (hopefully) Fabs falling it will be worth the 4 point hit.

Mummy. I think both of my transfers were a bit sh!te this week really, Pedersen was a transfer of price rise anxiety and Toure seems a bit of a weak candidate now compared to Kolarov.

Not unless the 'castle game is off. Seriously can't believe people are thinking of getting Drogba taken out, I spent a bit of today considering if it was worth taking a hit to get him in. This gameweek is so tasty for Chelsea.

        Hi Camzy,

You were good enough to give me some input into my team 2 or 3 weeks back - doing OK at present.

Fabs > Nasri?? but also looking at Pedersen and just got a sneaky suspicion that United will concede this week.

Looking at my team would you just do that 1 transfer? Etuhu is hanging around like a bad smell but I seem content on playing all three forwards at present so it makes no sense getting in a decent 5th midfielder.

        What do you reckon?

I chose Nasri, and I'm running around trying to recruit. I want a price rise xD

But seriously, he's the best choice available. He represents amazing FPL value, he should be worth 8.5 especially seeing as Arshavin started at 9.5.

MGP is an injury doubt for this week last I heard. Kind of stupid to replace one injured player with another one. He's a decent prospect, but I'd rather get Nasri tbh unless you've got a specific transfer you've got planned that needs the funds.

            Nasri over Cahill Camzy?

              Form is temporary...

I'd rather have Nasri through a tough Christmas schedule than Cahill who's not only more expensive, but could head off to Asia early, and is dependent on goals for points. His goalscoring record isn't THAT good.

7 league goals aint too bad, plus hes pretty much playing as a striker for Everton.

I do see Nasri scoring well in Cescs absence but dont fancy villa and united away in the next 3.

Cesc will probably be back for the Stoke home game. Easy to get rid of Cahill because he will be off to Asia.

We shall see ... your score means ill be terribly wrong you will still be in a great position ha

Fancy chelsea to keep a clean one at newcastle. thinking about bringing vidic in as his replacement for a 4 point hit, but only if people think bosingwa isn't likely to start. he wasn't even on the bench midweek, just being rested?

But if I want Balotelli then I won't take the hit and get him in. Simples. Only problem is, is that I fear getting rid of Carroll, fixtures are shite mind.
