“The times they are a-changin’.”

Bob Dylan, October 1963

This song was written almost half a century ago but Dylan clearly had what’s to come right on the precipice of his mind. That’s right, Johan Elmander is leading the captain’s poll. If ever there was a sign that times were and are changing in this Fantasy season, this would certainly be it. We’re not in Kansas anymore…

“Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen, and keep your eyes wide the chance won’t come again.”

It’s taken him a fair bit longer than expected to settle into life in the Premier league, but alongside Chung-Yong Lee, Elmander is somewhat perversely proving Gary Megson makes a great scout if an ill-bodied manager. This season, under the stewardship of Owen Coyle, he has begun to flourish, much to the surprise of the many who had previously written the Swede off as a Premier League flop. With 8 goals, 5 assists and 13 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points Elmander is the current value pick for the season and your lead candidate for the armband.

Evidently, following the lack of assurances the “obvious” picks have been able to provide in recent weeks – the next step in line is to play a bit more fast and loose and bank on a form player against a defence which is known for conceding the odd goal or two.

“The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast, the slow one now, will later be fast”

It’s not like this is some kind of runaway victory for Elmander though, evidence so far points to an incredibly close race with Nani a mere handful of votes in the wake of the Bolton striker, and with good cause considering his home form and the visit of Blackburn for him and his United cohorts this week. The news of Newcastle’s second string centre-back pairing sees Didier Drogba well in the reckoning for another crack at the whip as well.

Rafael Van Der Vaart, Carlos Tevez and even Wayne Rooney following his penalty at Rangers, are also well and truly in the reckoning.

If you’ve not let us know of your decision, or you’ve not yet made one, why not stew on it briefly and then head back to the frontpage and rock the vote. Make sure it counts.

“And the first one now will later be last, for the times they are a-changin’.”

But do you have the FPL addon?

I got this awesome FPL addon via Greasemonkey, and it gives all this additional info which I find incredibly useful.

Stuff like form for home and away games, a different user interface, upcoming fixtures by clicking on players. It's a gem.

I fixed the problem on Firefox btw. Works fine now.

      Fabs has to go.

Look to get someone relatively solid, because your team needs a regular performer since you have some injury doubts. I'd go with Cahill probably. Look to improve that defense asap with the saved funds. Stam/Bosingwa > Kolarov next week looks fine.

Taking the hit will mean he's a step closer to fixing his team, and Nasri away at Villa isn't as hard as it looks. Villa aren't that good anymore. They're missing Albrighton who's been their creative force this year.

Also, there's a chance of the Newcastle - Chelsea game being called off - if that happens, selling an injured player for a fit one for 4 pts isn't a bad idea.

I believe Blackpool are an impressive attacking side. I believe Bolton are a mediocre defensive side. Subsequently I bench Cahill.

If you're wondering why I have a mid priced defensive player in when I consider Bolton mediocre it's because he's good on bp, he can get goals and I believe has been unlucky on his lack of goals so far, and; it was to a degree an impulse transfer.

Camzy (or anyone else) mind helping me with my dilemma?
Between these three for my Fabs replacement
    A. VDV (obvious choice, but an injury risk for this weekend, and I already have quite a few players out…can always wait a week)
    B. Nasri (keeps Arsenal coverage, but fixtures aren’t great)
    C. Kuyt (differential, on PK’s, good fixtures)

Don’t want Cahill (just dropped Arteta…before his goal)

With the Chelsea-Newcastle game possibly postponed, I don't want to risk VDV not play too
Leaning toward Kuyt...dare to be different right?
    Cheers

I'd go Arteta personally, but that's partially because I've grown a certain disliking for the spaniard after putting all my trust in him at the start of the season.

I'll have one striker that's what bloody happens!!

But on a serious note the game will be rearranged, probably for the new year sometime and we'll all have a Double GW (i.e Chelsea/Newcastle will twice and everyone else once.

My great looking team from 2 weeks ago got totally screwed and Im standing in quite a pile of shite at the moment. See:

    Jussi (Al-Habsi)
    Cashley, Elmo, RJohnson (Simpson, Konchesky)
    Fabs, Nani, VDV, Nolan (Albrighton)
    Tevez, Carrol, KDavies(c)

Now Ive got Fabs+Albrighton out for at least 2 weeks. Possibly VDV out this week (though I believe he will make it till Sunday) and Elmo probably getting benched again. If the match at Newcastle would be postponed, I could end up playing without 8! outfield players. Disaster... I got 3.9 in the bank, 1 freebie, even the wildcard as the last possibility and a headache of how should I sort this shit out...Any advice is welcomed. Thx

I don't really think your team looks too bad. I'd probably play Konchesky over Elmo, while Liverpool won't get a clean sheet he could get an assist or two and he will play the majority of 90 minutes. I'd then take a 4 point hit with Fabs out for Cahill and Albrighton out for N'Zog.

Then if the Newcastle game doesn't go ahead your team still looks okay... That is if VdV plays.
