With the chances of us using the “Snow Joke” pun increasing every 24 hours, weโ€™re entering a nervous few weeks in Fantasy terms. For now, our fixture list remains intact โ€“ safe from the ravages of our climate and the jobsworth application of the “Stadium Health and Safety Guidelines”. That thankfully gives me the full complement from which to plunder my Scout Pick selection, give or take a fragile Fabregas and a doubtful Dutchmanโ€ฆ

The Defence

Mark Schwarzer
The goalkeeperโ€™s spot gave handed me the biggest headache this week as, once again, clean sheets looked hard to come by. In the end, with defenders offering attacking potential elsewhere, Iโ€™ve opted to back Fulhamโ€™s defence against a Birmingham side that have shown erratic form away from home. Schwarzer, the must-have goalkeeping option last season, has slipped from the radar with a price increase and an inconsistent Fulham defence but he should return a Save Point or two this weekend at the very least.

Rafael
One of our “Spot the Differential” picks this week, the Brazilian has found some consistency to mix with his undoubted talent and has seemingly convinced Alex Ferguson that he warrants regular selection at left-back. Blackburn will test the questionable United rearguard but Rafael offers a cheap route to a possible clean sheet here, with a degree of attacking threat thrown in for good measure.

Leighton Baines
With Chelseaโ€™s defence looking fragile and Rafael offering a cut-price option within the United back four, this weekโ€™s heavyweight defensive slot goes to Evertonโ€™s left-back. Baines notched his fourth and fifth assists of the season at Sunderland last time out and his link up with the raiding runs of Tim Cahill is a continuous feature of Evertonโ€™s attacking play. A home tie with struggling West Brom presents Baines with every chance of returns at both ends.

Gary Cahill
Bolton have kept just one clean sheet all season โ€“ at home to Fulham on day one. A shutout is long overdue and while Blackpool will carry plenty of attacking intent, Ian Hollowayโ€™s side have scored just 4 goals in their last 5 away trips. More to the point, Cahill has threatened attacking points in recent weeks with several breaks from the back ending in curling long-range efforts. Cahill will break his duck for the season soon and this week, against a porous Blackpool defence without their first choice keeper, looks as good as any.

Aleksandar Kolarov

Cityโ€™s Serbian left-back will face a stern test at the Britannia and to be honest, a clean sheet against an in-form Stoke looks unlikely. Having said that, Roberto Manciniโ€™s side have a strong defensive record and are second only to Arsenal in terms of away form. Attacking points could be the key for Kolarov and, as stated in our recent Watchlist article, he demonstrated enough in his start at Fulham last weekend to highlight his potential in that area.

The Midfield

Nani
If youโ€™re looking to back Unitedโ€™s attacking potential these days then Nani is the obvious route, even with Wayne Rooney in line for a start this weekend. Still holding on to the top scorer spot in the Fantasy Premier League game, a home fixture with Blackburn should give the Portuguese every opportunity to add to his impressive tally.

Tim Cahill
Five goals in his last eight Premier League games tells you that the Aussie midfielder is on fire. While David Moyes searches for a goalscoring solution from his strikers, Cahill has obliged to keep the Toffeeโ€™s season ticking over. The West Brom defence is amongst the most obliging in the league right now and the scene is set for Cahill to boost his goal count further.

Samir Nasri
While Fantasy Managers search further afield for the Cesc Fabregas replacement, maybe the ideal candidate is right under our noses. Nasri has shown outstanding form this term, with or without his skipper alongside him. The Gunners will miss the craft and guile of the Spaniard at Villa Park this weekend but Iโ€™m still backing a victory with goals. Nasri will play his part and if Wenger keeps Robin Van Persie in reserve, heโ€™ll be on free-kicks and penalties.

Matt Jarvis
Iโ€™m keeping the faith with the Wolves flyer. Jarvis was once again Mick McCarthyโ€™s most potent threat at Blackpool last weekend, firing in more crosses than any other player in the league over the weekend. Jarvis will come up against a Sunderland side who have had the heart of their defence ripped from them by injuries to Titus Bramble and Michael Turner. The conclusion? Sunderland will concede at Molineux and if that proves to be the case, then Jarvis is highly likely to play some part. Also look to David Jones and Nenad Milijas if you fancy a budget gamble.

The Forwards

Johan Elmander
While my selection of Kevin Davies in last weekโ€™s Picks paid off thanks to a couple of spot-kicks and yet more Bonus Points, Iโ€™m not too comfortable in overlooking the overwhelming lure of Elmander for a second week running. The big Swede is the definition of a โ€œhandfulโ€ right now and the Blackpool defence is facing a stern test from the Reebokโ€™s striking duo. For my money, the heavy Fantasy investment in Elmander and Davies looks set to pay off.

Didier Drogba
The Ivorian is on one of his worst goalscoring runs having gone 5 starts without a strike. Chelseaโ€™s form hasnโ€™t helped matters and while Carlo Ancelottiโ€™s side take the trip to Newcastle still lacking confidence, Drogba will come up against a home defence that will be fielding an untested centre-back pairing of Sol Campbell and Steven Taylor. Chris Hughtonโ€™s side come into the game having conceded five at Bolton, while Chelsea perhaps would have notched a similar total had it not been for the feats of Ben Foster in the Birmingham goal. Drogba has the opportunity to return to form and remind Fantasy Managers just why he looked so essential early on in the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Need to pick 2 from

--Enrique (chelsea at home) - think it could be hard for chelsea to score in difficult conditions
--Molykoyo (sunderland at home) possible clean sheet if he starts
--Samba (united away)Always a goal threat and i just have a feeling about him this weekend
    --Konchesky (Tottenham away)

Not a nice choice. Konch has the chance of assists and possibly goals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40GEA28TGKI

Sunderland aren't that good away, but does Mouyokolo ever play?

Samba is a goal threat, but I can't see Utd conceding.

      I'd go Konch and Enrique

they've been crap past few games and under big pressure

the fact that sol campbell and taylor will be playing has me decided. they both havent played all season i think.. v's a striker who is hungry to get goals again + on pens + freekicks. i expect drogba to score high this weekend

I'm captaining Drogba, but the stats and form back an Elmander (C).

Up to you. I wouldn't. We've all been burned so many times by captaining players against Blackpool at home, and you never do know what's going to happen when they're playing.

Captaining a player from a top 4 team is much safer.

If the match is called off then "my captain, my captain" will be Nani, who will seize the day.

Haven't got the gonads to captain Elmander. My girl has them in her handbag. Which she stole from me when I was under the influence of Magic Cephalopods.

I really can't understand why collingwood is in the side- he's such a negative selection, basically the selectors are stating that they expect England to constantly be in need of saving a test match- ridiculous!

Cue him saving this test match... ๐Ÿ˜‰

davies or nani or cahill captain

    right now its on cahill

    and my reasons are.
nani has played too much this week, hel be WRECKED and sam loves to put up a fight , this will not be the riot people are predicting!

davies , well bolton blackpool is not as easy as everyone thinks!

BUT everton west brom, well that sounds easy to me, and cahill loves headering and scoring goals and he will again

I've got MGP in, (did it a few days ago).

He's on a good scoring run which is nice, however, is anyone else concerned that two of his goals recently have been total flukes, (against Wigan and Villa), where he just whipped the ball in from a set piece, and it's curled over and past the keeper into the net?

He takes all our set pieces except penalties. Freekicks, corners, throw-ins. He'll get assists if our strikers can hit a barn door (which isn't all that likely...)

Have you got him or Dunn in?

Also, about Carroll maybe dropping off and scoring less points up to GW28: After the first 5 gameweeks of the season it looked unthinkable to drop Drogba or Malouda, anyone who mentioned it was said to be 'crazy'.

However, their pointage has dropped off loads since then, and the main reason, (but not the only reason), is due to their fixtures stiffening, so this helps back-up my belief that fixtures are very important, and perhaps more important than you are willing to realise currently.

Not important enough to take hits and get lesser players in. I got Nasri in for Fabregas.

That said, I think I'm going to get rid of Carroll next week. All the Fabregas money needs a new home, and strikers are looking like the primary point gatherers over the Christmas season. I'd rather not drop Drogba or Tevez, so I guess Carroll has to go.

Yeah but Fabregas' injury changed everything. With no viable high-end mids, and some really high potential strikers coming to form, I didn't really have a choice.

Well you do have a choice, you could upgrade your defence, or wait for Fabregas to come back and just leave 4 mil in the bank for a couple of weeks.

Basically you said that Drogba, Tevez and Carroll were your forward line for the forseeable future; I questioned the Carroll decision, and you said that you were keeping him.

Now you're choosing to drop him, it doesn't matter what reason you choose to dress it up as, since the main fact is that you are dropping him. If you really thought he could do the business, you wouldn't be dropping him just so that you can use up the extra cash.

I'm actually annoyed with you Camzy, I wanted you to realise that keeping Carroll was a mistake around about GW26 or GW27 time, once you'd taken a load of his bad scores. Instead you manage to get away with this one, and don't let Carroll and his crap hair hurt you. ๐Ÿ˜€

I haven't got him out yet. It just seems the most reasonable move at the moment given the options. If I was stubborn enough to keep Carroll just because he's done well in the past with all the options available to me at the moment, I'd be a terrible FPL player.

Hey guys, please i need a bit of sound advice (a lil bit drunk so dont wanna pull the trigger stupidly)

I've made 2 transfers this week with a 4 hit of Albr & Cesc to Lee and Nasri

    Trouble is i still have
    Bosingwa (starter?)
    Simpson (1 point maybe)
    Elmo(1 point probably)
    VDV (50/50)
    Ferguson (2 points?)

Looks miserable i know, so wondering if ye approve of another hit of Elmo > Kolarov or Vidic? or any better suggestion???

I wouldn't take another hit to sort out your terrible defence.

        I have:

        Evra = Good!
Steinsson = Lost his place to (P)ricketts.
Coleman = Losing his place soon.
        Bramble = Crocked for weeks.
        Konchesky = Quite Good.

And I haven't changed any of them this week as I have been sorting out the Fabregas situation instead, despite the fact that I may not get three starters out of that bunch.
