After three-and-a-half months out injured, Chelsea talisman Frank Lampard returned to the substitutes’ bench, and ultimately the pitch, during today’s London derby against Spurs. Whilst his game time was limited to 15 odd minutes it was refreshing to see the midfielders return from a football and Fantasy Football perspective.

Lampard hadn’t played since August when he underwent a hernia operation and then tore a groin muscle during his recovery. At first Chelsea looked able to cope without their goalscoring midfielder but performances have stalled and Chelsea have been looking a team in disarray.

Fans of the Blues will hope that Lampard’s return provides a fillip to the teams performances which during his absence have bordered on tragic. Considering that Chelsea have managed only 1 win in their last 8 matches in all competitions, any boost will be welcomed.

His inclusion on the bench was a surprise and the word from Carlo Ancelotti was that he was going to be short for the massive trip to Spurs;

“No, he’s not fit again. He’s out. I can say this with a smile because he trained well but it will be a very tough game against Tottenham and we didn’t have a test with him in a game.”

Usually Ancelotti is pretty candid and honest with his team selection calls so for Lampard to appear on the bench after these comments was a huge surprise. Was the Italian looking to provide a psychological boost to his players?

Unfortunately for Chelsea Lampard’s presence didn’t provide them with enough to get all three points at White Hart Lane – something they should have collected if it weren’t for Didier Drogba’s late missed penalty. One things for certain the miss from the Ivorian will surely see Frank Lampard back on spot kick duties.

Given the random nature of Fantasy Football this season and the lack of consistency amongst the so called big names and expensive players, the return of Lampard should create a nice differential for those players trying to find a way of clawing back deficits in their respective leagues.

If the midfield man can reach form of seasons past he will surely see his ownership rocket back up to the levels seen at the start of the season and during the past few years. A lot will depend on how Ancelotti eases him back into the team and on how Chelsea’s form improves, but a player who almost certainly guarantee’s goals and assists will be hard to ignore.

What a terrible week, I'm 5 points behind my h2h rival with Nani(C) and Nasri to play and he has also has Nani as captain.. Ridgewell didnt play and I put Jara(0) before Elmo(6) on my bench and played N'Zogbia over Adam.. So basically, as an Arsenal fan I want Nasri to go nuts for a couple of reasons, but mainly so we beat United of course.. FF comes second. Also how do these transfers sound? Two free:

Malouda to VDV(if fit) or another mid around same price
    Elmander to Rooney

Everywhere is warming slightly, rain and such, so unless the weather is meant to take a turn for the worse it seems unlikely... Anyway a transfer done before Friday night/Saturday morning is usually a bad transfer.

Saw the report today. The weather is expected to take a SERIOUS turn for the worse before the weekend. Return to the Arctic conditions. If the weather people are correct (dubious) then this game could well be off. Otherwise I am looking at VDV back in as well.

It all depends on where Rooney is playing now, and where he's going to be played in the future. I've been told that he's seemingly playing behind the front striker in a 4-4-1-1 formation, if that is the case it seems that his goal scoring will be hindered and he could possibly be too expensive for his returns.

Again I'm not 100% on VdV, it all depends on how Spurs line up now Defoe is back in the line-up.

For me they're both wait and sees, fortunately you only have to wait until tomorrow to get a better understanding of one of them.

I'm keeping a close eye on Sunderland over their next 2 fixtures. After Bolton at home and Man Utd away they have a run of:

    BPL BBN avl NWC bpl

Promising fixtures with potential for both attacking and defensive returns. Onuoha, Bardsley, Elmo, Henderson, Zenden, Bent, Gyan and Welbeck all on the radar then.

I thought he was ok. Involved in pretty much every attempt on goal that you had (apart from the goal) their weren't a lot of other options though. Thought K. Davies should have had the 3 bps.

I think Allardyce is finding it hard to find a role for him. He was benched today because we played 5 at the back but that won't be the case against W.Ham so he SHOULD come straight back in.

Well, I am assuming AB has gotten rid of Dunn for Brunt there. In that case Brunt is playing for amore attack minded team than blackburn both home and away. He is involved in everything good that Brom does going forward. He's guaranteed 90 mins in every game unlike Dunn(injuries, formations) plus I forgot my last point which was the clincher, I'll tell if i remember it 🙂

Well you should check your stats. West Brom have scored the same number of goals as us at home (and only 2 more away) so i really don't think they are THAT attack minded.

Having said all that i have no problem with Brunt, he's been in my team for the last month or so 😉

It's a tactic we tried in pre season a bit and it works quite well when you're up against 2 out and out front men. We used it successfully at Newcastle against Carroll and Ameobi and again today at the Breezebloc. I thought we had total control of the game until the red card. Unfortunatly we're not exactly a possession team so having an extra man isn't that much of an advantage, all it seems to do was disrupt the flow of the game.

I did mean pitch, like toss in garbage. Ditch works just as well, I guess.

I guess I just think he's still in good form, wasn't far away from a couple goals yesterday. Sure, Man City is tough, but I guess I don't see him as someone that I should be getting rid of right away.

SD, just remembered the clincher. His fixtures are pretty much range from above average to very good ones until week 25 and he has proven to be quite a fixture proof player already with his return against Arsenal, United and Spurs. Only second to Carroll as far consistency goes in term of fpl returns.

Carroll or Torres. The former has the form, the latter the fixtures.

If neither, Darren Bent looks a decent bet and he doesn't often go long without notching.

I feel sorry for those who took -8 to -12 point! I transferred out Nolan for Ether...(that was not my idea, it's his 😈 ) but I'm not discourage about it, it's just one odd week... of course there is some hope tomorrow for those who captained Nani, Nasri, Rooney, perhaps Berbatov... well, good-luck 😉

      Not really.

There's quite a few players you could replace him with.
Based on fixtures for the next month or so and looking at your team, I would look in the direction of midfielders from either Arsenal, WBA, Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham, Sunderland or Blackburn.

Or you could just keep him. After the Man City game he doesn't have the worst run of fixtures.

What do you plan to do about Tevez? I think he's a goner.. I am thinking of getting Carroll back in, even though his fixtures aren't great over 50% has him and anytime he does score big, it hurts too hard..

You probably should get Carroll back. I'm glad I always had some other transfer to make, so I didn't have to ship Carroll.

Tevez and Drogba... I really don't know what to do with them at the moment. Drogba has scored 2 in 2 games, and with Chelsea's fixtures easing off after Arsenal in GW19, I may just keep him pending Tevez.

Next week is the Tevez test. If he plays, he stays, if not, I guess he has to go...

That's where I am too. Have Drog/Tevez and Carroll. Am going to hold onto Drog. Tevez is the big worry. A transfer to Torres who has Fulham at home is tempting but that messes up my plan to get VDV back in.

Terrible GW so far. What to do about strikers? I've got Drogba, Tevez & Elmander.

Was planning to boot Drogba but, he looked close to 12 points today. Don't know what to think of Tevez. Crazy to boot Elmander for Carroll with his upcoming fixtures?

((Had Carroll from GW3 but, lost him screwing around with WC in week 8... finding it hard to go back much to my misfortune, I figure I've missed 40+ points with that mistake. ))

I don't understand how that site works with the commissions. What do you mean by unders?

                    The commission is simple.

At the moment I see 60 in the "back" section for 4-2. The real odds are 60-1 = 59 - 5% = 56.05 + 1 = 57.05 for your 1. When you bet alot with Betfair the 5% gets lower so you get better odds. Unders is the 7.05 you are missing out on atm x 10 units making 70.50 not going into your pocket due to the other bet. It was at 65 when I read your comment just before.

It's back to 65 as I type this meaning the real odds are 60.80-1

OK thanks. It's still a little confusing. I've never seen a betting site quite like that one before. I'm just messing around on the site trying to figure it out. Learn something new every day, well sometimes.:D

I love using Betfair. Just think you pay a 5% tax on the profits you make & then the odds are easy to work out. I find on 99% of cases, you get better odds.

OK I figured it out. It was the unshaded boxes that were confusing me.

It's a pretty cool site. I definitely looks like the odds are better than Ladbrokes. I'll check it again in the morning and see how easy it is for me to deposit money into it.

Canada has made it awkward to deposit money into online sports betting accounts. One can't just use their credit card, bank account or PayPal account to deposit money straight into a betting account, there's some kind of block on it. (Ladbrokes have set up a way aroung it that costs nothing) They want you to use their government run sports betting service which gives terrible odds. I believe it is something like a 50-60% payout.

Thanks for mentioning the site, it's in my bookmarks.

No problem, I just use my bank account to put funds in. Don't have a credit card so it works quite well that way. If you decide to make an account, come look for me & I can give you a code to enter so we both get free bets. 🙂

I don't think he'll risk him, both hamstrings are causing problems so it's more than a standard injury to get over, he's rushed him back too often. Arsenal can afford to lose this, it's wigan and birmingham away when they'll needs fabs
