[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

Evidently the collective mix of the home football clubs, the local constabulary and Mother Nature didn’t feel particularly Christmassy this Boxing day as yet again Premier League games succumbed to the weather. At least this Game Week festive cheers and merriments were quashed with (some) time on players side to make required team changes.

An hour and a half before the 11:30 am (GMT) deadline it was announced that both the Blackpool versus Liverpool game, a game which was widely tipped to be postponed,  and more surprisingly the Everton versus Birmingham game would have to be called off. The former due to a frozen pitch, a legacy of the lack of undersoil heating, and the later due to frozen pipes. Maybe these clubs were on the naughty list this Christmas. Actually maybe if they had of been they’d got a lump of coal they could have used it to heat up their damn stadiums!

Needless to say the late announcements meant last minute reschedules of Fantasy Football teams. Tim Cahill was dumped earlier than planned by many in light of his forthcoming Asia Cup dalliance, Leighton Baines was knee-jerkingly disposed of in order to field 11 players and the reserve goalkeeping situation was amended with the Ben Foster shaped hole meaning the none-playing Stockdale or Mignolet provided inadequate support.

What made it worse was that Captain poll favourite Nani, with 35% of the vote, was no where to be seen – not even on the bench. Chat of flu during the week may go some way to account for his absence but the explanations that he was either receiving a rest in light of the hectic Christmas schedule or attending a Michael Jackson (Thriller era) lookalike convention may also have held true. With Manchester United’s next game coming this Tuesday, Nani owners will be sweating on his fitness and inclusion. Check back to Team News and the Twitter feed on the site to keep up to date with all information.

The key Knee Jerk today was surely the returning Rafael Van Der Vaart. There was a concern this week that the Dutchman may not be risked given his recent spate of injury problems, however, owners will be thankful he did with a two goal contribution seeing to Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 away victory over Aston Villa. Once again “Rafa” outshone Fantasy Football rival, but Spurs teammate, Gareth Bale.

The Welshman is owned by a staggering 55.6% of players- surely the single largest act of collective blind faith in Fantasy Football history. Van Der Vaart has only 18.8% ownership in comparison but even with his injury problems has contributed a significantly larger amount of points per game this season. Continual frustration for owners of the Welshman lies in the fact that he always seems to “assist” the player who assists Van Der Vaart. Surely more and more owners will be looking to switch to the Dutchman, either from Bale or as a replacement for the departing Tim Cahill. Given his recent injuries however, whether Rafa can play three to four games on the spin would have to be questioned.

Pulis said: "He [Etherington] was kicked on the knee and is a little sore, but we're at a hotel for a couple of nights, so he'll have good attention and I hope that will give us enough time to get him right for the Fulham game.

"But we've got good back up if we lose Matty."

Getting Torres in for Drogba instead of Teves has been a disaster so far. All because of his stupid transfer request.

    Foster
    Elmo Konchesky Kolarov Shawx
    Nani Nasri VDV
    Carroll Drogba Torres

    bench: Nzog, Foley, Adam (banned)

Want Tevez but like my front line, also could do Hanheman to Reina since I'm playing with 1 keeper. Appreciate any feedback.

    VDV, Bale, Nani, Cahil (Brunt)

I was thinking saving a transfer next GW, then go for

My attempt at a Suspension Tightrope is now updated after the games today.

    Changes as follows:
Defoe is now banned for 3 games following his 'violent' red. He's joined by Nolan and Brunt who have both accrued 5 Yellows. Adam and Anichebe must wait until the next game to serve their existing bans.
GCahill is the only new addition to the suspension tightrope on 4 yellows.
There are many extra players now 2 yellows away from a ban, the new ones are Pantsil, Balotelli, Etherington, Shawcross, Bardsley, Gomes, Modric and Upson.
KToure, Cattermole, Figueroa, HThomas and Boa Morte have now served their bans and are free to play again in GW20.

Indeed it does. You'll need 10 for a ban after that.
Warnock (7) and Tiote (8) the only ones threatening that so far.

Hard choice indeed but Aston Villa have been shocking away from home and City make enough chances to score hatfuls.

Do you think we will see a Blackburn Rovers freefall? Last two homegames would have yielded at least three pts and a cleanie under Big Sam, no?

To all of you getting VDV in..

I know he got subbed a little early but beware a short performance from VDV, his fitness levels aren't great and he could easily do his hamstring in a tough game against Newcastle.

I'm actually thinking of getting Gerrard in instead. Thoughts?

Cheers, that was my original plan. If Chelsea look back to themselves tomorrow it might complicate things.

Why Samba out? Stripped of captaincy but said he would have played if he was fit. Massive set piece threat.

We can't bank on him playing at all, even if fit. There is too much uncertainty at Blackburn right now.

Is VDV actually going to start the next two games? You'd think Harry might think he can rest him against Fulham at least.

Maybe, but with Defoe suspended I'm not so sure - and seeing him taken off after 60 mins is encouraging too.

I'd be surprised if he didn't start both, but as with today, he might not play the whole 90.

ty, at this rate he'll probably score three times against Fulham inside 20 minutes.

    a) hart + rooney -> reina + torres
    b) brunt + rooney -> gerrard + welbeck

or if you have any other ideas by looking at my team 😀

I think Wayne's assist for Berba summed up why Berba could benefit from Rooney's return. IMO, only two people can do a chip like that, and that's Wayne and Nani.
