The self-proclaimed second best player in the world will no doubt be patting himself on the back tonight following a three goal haul against Gerard Houllier’s insipid Aston Villa side in Man City‘s 4-0 Eastlands canter.

In the absence of Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli was given the lone striking role for Roberto Mancini’s side and his hat-trick has helped propel the club to the top of the Premier League this evening, though a draw at St Andrews tonight will reinstall Man United at the summit.

Following Tevez’s two goals and an assist at the weekend, 74,000 Fantasy Managers drafted the Argentine into their teams for this afternoon’s match but a sore hamstring meant he was benched for the entirety of the match and will have messed up more than a few team’s Fantasy captaincy decisions.

Balotelli recently grabbed the headlines for his ridiculous line in headgear but today it was all about the football, as he lived up to his own hype with a man of the match performance, albeit two of the goals against the struggling Midlands side were from the penalty spot. This was the first time the Italian has found the net since game week 11, and it’s clear a central striking role is the way to get the best out of his abilities.

However, with Tevez in control of that role when fit, Balotelli will no doubt go back to skulking from positions out wide over the next few weeks all over again. Despite his undoubted skills, this was only the second league game Balotelli has found the net in this season, a statistic which is pretty indicative of both his inconsistency under Mancini and of his unreliability as a Fantasy prospect.

Personally i think Fabs looks like a great purchase. And if you have him you may as well do it for Nasri. Foley has been great for me this season, almost everytime he's been subbed in to my team he's scored well.

      So both look good 🙂

    Hi Everyone,

Got 2 free transfers, 1.7 in bank, do these sound good?

    Robinson/Foster
    Coleman/Cole/Konchesky/Toure/Rafael
    Nani/Nasri/Brunt/Nzog/Pedersen
    Torres/Tevez/Carroll

    Cole/Toure > Bardsley
    Brunt > VDV

    Any suggestions welcome

Anyone else think Arsenal have a pretty good chance of winning the league this year?

If they can build on the other night and go on a little run then why not!? They've got Chelsea out the way and have played both their away games in Manchester. Also they've been without Vermaelen pretty much all season, if they can get him back and fit i imagine they will be alot mroe solid at the back.

God i would love it if they do.

IMO they have the best player (Fabregas) and one of the best strikers (RVP).

No reason why they couldnt win.

Oddly enough though, im quite content to just have Nasri in FPL terms - RVP may be a bargain but ill have to wait and see.

I would like that aswell being a liverpool fan. I think no matter how well they play from here its Man U's to lose. Havent lost yet and rooney has been poor all season. I hope so tho! Fabregas needs to be fit for the majority.

You beat a chelsea side who have the worst form of any team in the league. I didn't see men on the pitch when they tried to hack Utd off the OT turf, or when they lost to Spurs, Newc and WBA at home. Classic arsenal fans but that's why we love to hate you.

                All clubs have em unfortunately.

I do think Arsenal have a bit more about them this season though, less relient on one or two players than before and they seem to be a bit more resolute. I'd love it if they win and i think they're definitely in with a good shot based on what we've seen so far.

      Lets put it this way:

Arsenal have mounted a title challenge in the first half of the season largely without their best three players. Everyone talks about united being better after Chirstmas, but is there a logical explanation for this? I remember suggesting Ferguson used special training methods so his players would mostly peak in the latter half of the season, and was shot down.

Arsenal often fall away in towards the end of the season, but there ,em>is a logical explanation for this; injuries. Last season, Arsenal were being widely tipped as dark horses for the title (remember that "easy run-in"?), until Fabregas, Vermaelen, Song , Arshavin and Gallas all getting season-ending injuries within a week of each other.

This season, Arsenal seem to have more players willing to step in when the big players like Fabregas and RVP get injured. Nasri had the chance to do it last season and blew it in a big way (bar that one games vs. Porto). Players like Walcott, Chamakh and even Wilshere have also stepped forward somewhat and been willing to take on more responsibility, where they wouldn't have in previous years. Last season, the only player who seemed to want to do that was Bendtner, probably because he has such an inflated opinion of himself that he believes he is as good as anyone else in the side.

People always make a schoolboy error with Arsenal each pre-season when making predictions, seeing that they haven't made too many big signings, so assuming they haven't improved. When you have a squad of players the right side of 24, you're improving all the time.

It will be interesting to see how arsenal fare at wigan. Tbh, those sort of games (coming after a win against a "big" team) are the one's that really test a squad's title credentials....

you should read the article, rather than that rather embarrassing one from that deluded United fan.

"George Best might have smiled down from the heavens."

that's the only mention of Best in the article. It's like when someone scores a volley from a tight angle and the commentator says something like "shades of Marco Van Basten." There's no direct comparison between the two players.

Evoking memories is hardly the same as comparing the two players. Johann Elmander's goal against Wolves evokes memories of Robin Van Persie, doesn't mean Elmander is anywhere near as gifted.

Rooney on the other hand was "up there with/ miles better than Messi."

I'm not sure about that. Both have hardly played so far this season and when they have they've been far from their best.

Unless you mean in the sense that if they do start playing and playing at their best then it could kick Arsenal up to their next gear - in which case, i agree.

I agree with the first comment and partly agree with the second. I think we will never see the best of RVP (even though he is a star) due to years of being injury prone. Unfortunate but thats my take on it.

Nasri is much better value in FPL, considering getting both but seems a bit overkill. Similar to some people wanting to have Van Der Vaart and Bale.

Have just enough cash to do either:

    1) K Davies -> Berbs
    or
    2) T Cahill -> Fabs

Which is best for next game week?

Need to ship Cahill out after next GW anyway, so if get Berbs then what mid is best for less than 9.1? Have VDV and Nani already.

If I get Fabs than what is best striker bet for less than 6.4?
