Man City’s 1-0 win over Blackpool at Eastlands encapsulated everything that has been wrong with the Christmas and New Year Gameweeks. While the match itself will likely go down as one of the season’s best, it delivered frustration in the extreme for Fantasy Managers.

Hat-trick hero Mario Balotelli made a mockery of any opportunist investment following his strikes against Villa by missing the game with a knee injury, then, once the game kicked off, the irritation levels just escalated.

Carlos Tevez, sporting the Fantasy Premier League armband from many of his owners, fluffed a first-half penalty and then seemingly went out of his way to deny us any chance of compensation. Tevez missed an abundance of chances – even managing to lose his footing in a slapstick style, having rounded keeper Richard Kingson with the Blackpool goal gaping. He’s ruined the first Match of the Day of 2011.

For those who doubled up on City’s raiding left-back Aleksandar Kolarov, the pain was magnified further. The Serb, so prominent in City’s attacks in his last two starts for Roberto Mancini’s side, felt the wrath of his manager as he continually wasted possession and opportunities to deliver telling crosses. On 58 minutes Mancini had seen enough and Kolarov was subbed – just two minutes before the 60 minute cut-off for a clean sheet.

The City situation is just becoming annoying now. Potentially a rich source of attacking and defensive points, the options to rotate and tinker available to Roberto Mancini are beginning to bite hard with the full-back situation summing up the current plight. Short of taking the plunge with Joe Hart or the unfashionable and expensive Kolo Toure, it’s looking impossible to find a secure option in a defence that has now kept 10 clean sheets, the best total in the league. I’m expecting to see Kolarov miss out at the Emirates in the week now, with Pablo Zabaleta presenting a safer option for Mancini at left-back. Who can really say when we will see the Serb back in the side, let alone cement his starting role.

As for Tevez, I’ll forgive today’s crimes with the prospect of plenty of points from him in Gameweek’s to come, but I can’t help but think that his fortunes over the past three Gameweeks epitomise the suffering of the Christmas period – 16 points on Boxing Day, rested the Gameweek after, zero points with golden opportunities missed today.

Fantasy Managers have been reluctantly riding a Gameweek roller-coaster of late, and very few of us have managed to get off the thing smiling. Tevez and City certainly delivered one hell of drop today.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not yet really. 1 goal doesn't mean much. Liverpool need to play alot better. Only an injury to Tevez/Drogba would make me change my mind atm.

Don't like repeating posts but this was posted as the last one on the previous page..

Best midfielder for 4.6 or less? I’m thinking Albrighton, relatively nice fixtures and a double soon. I have two free transfers this week and basically need to sort my midfield out, I have Cahill, N’Zogbia & Dunn.

I could do Cahill & Dunn > Fabregas & Adam but would have to fund it by getting rid of N’Zog for a midfielder under 4.6. Would give me the following team..

    Foster, Jussi
    Kolarov, Rafael, Coleman, Konchesky, Jara
    Fabregas, VdV, Nani, Adam, Albrighton
    Torres, Tevez, Carroll

Edging towards Cleverly actually because Wigan have a double in GW24.

Yeah true, I had been looking at him prior to this week, would be more ideal to get someone with a decent fixture this week but Cleverley could so something at Bolton I suppose.

Wouldn't have to do it tonight either cos of N'Zog's price drop..

kyrgriakos is a risk now mate, im an unfortunate liverpool fan and agger put in a good performance today, but with rotation he will probably play the blackburn game.

Jara and west brom are letting in too many and even against a fulham team who cant score i cant see a clean sheet.

kolorov looked so good a couple of weeks ago but i think zabaleta is now more assured.

for the four point hit I would do Skrtel because he will play twice, so even if liverpool conceed he will still get your 4 points back

Just seen the BPs. How on God's green earth does Adam get 3pts and Gerrard get none.

    Aurelio? what.
Tevez? Should have been given negative points. His impact on the game was anything but positive! He could have lost them the three points.

As for Adam. How can a midfielder on the losing side grab all three points. Especially in a game where City were dominating and could have (should have) scored 3 or 4. That man is a walking 3 point bonus magnet and a must have for the double GWs

I'm a City fan and saw the whole game. In fairness, Adam orchestrated everything Blackpool did (as usual). The game wasnt all us, it was quite end to end throughout and a very entertaining game. After the game I predicted Adam getting some BP's as I felt he deserved them. (I dont have him in my team btw - so not biased).

City aren't on a massive slide like Chelsea were for that match though. I think history suggests Fabs doesn't do a lot in top 4 games, even if he did very well against chelsea in the last match.

That Arse/City match is basically going to season definer for both i think in the league as neither can afford to drop more points. Can't wait to watch it.

Yeah it is going to be an epic match, I always look forward to when City play other top 4 sides than when say Chelsea/Arsenal play eachother for some reason. Just to see how far they've come I suppose.

Suppose with the FA Cup also it's probably not worth just getting him in a week early for the sake of it, we all know what his hamstrings are like.

Yeh I know what you mean, I am scraping 10. If it is any consolation Kolarov will be the starting left back. Mancini has said this himself (many times) and City fans can see his potential for attacking. The problem today was AJ making a rare start (and not tracking back to help an attacking left back much) and the fact Phillips came on with a lot of pace and ran Kolarov down. Zabaleta is slower than Kolarov, but was obviously fresh legs.

Konchesky is rubbish, wildcard he is definitely out, hopefully sooner. I don't really think Kolarov is that good going forward, he is pretty wasteful on set pieces also but I suppose if he is starting 5.7 for a City defender is good.

Not Dembele, he isn't a goalscorer, Fulham are rubbish at the moment and I've had him and he did absolutely nothing. Odemwingie, we always have a torrid Xmas so don't be put off by our recent form, our fixtures are really nice and he scores in bursts does Wingie.

    Looking at the Double:

Worth swapping Baines for Johnson? I have Kyrigiaos but I doubt he'll play

Elmander/ Welbeck for Campbell/ Ngog (I have Torres)

Ive said this above, but I thought it might help you with Kolarov.

Kolarov will be the starting left back.

Hopefully I dont jinx it and he misses the next couple of games.

      MGP to Adam looks good.
Carroll to DJ would depend on how much you got Carroll for, i've had him since the start so will just stick out the injury i think.

I'm gonna keep patience with Kolarov, if he gets dropped this week then no worries because i am probably gonna bench him anyway.

For the most part his scores haven't really reflected his performances. Sometimes i think it's better to just stick with what you have and wait for the point where they score well rather than swapping it around so much continually chasing the last big scorer.

Something i've noticed quite a bit this year compared to last is that patience and not making so many transfers seems to be paying off. imo etc

The only DGW player I have is the Big Greek and he doesn't appear to have much hope of playing.. My team I was fairly confident with will have 5 non starters this week with Carroll seemingly out for a month...

Who knows what deals will be done in the transfer window or who else may pick up an injury...

Just looking at the Opta Stats, and it seems like they give a much more significant weighting to the total number of passes made, than the the number of key passes made.

Nasri, Gerrard, Malbranque and Fabregas all made 5 key passes (i.e. the most) and only Fabregas - who also made a lot of total passes - got BPs. Whereas Adam made just the one key pass, and he gets 3 BPs. 😕 Yaya made 3 key passes for the record.

Doesn't seem right that someone who has a significant impact in the final third, gets ignored whilst some fat c*nt who strolls around making short passes rakes in the points.

I do agree with you. But all i've seen anyone say about BPs is that the subjectivity ruins it or there should be a concrete fair system.

Measuring impact would make it alot more subjective than any kind of system, seems they can't win?

*i mean tbh, they can't win anyway. People always want their players to get BPs, they can only give them to 3 people. I think whatever they did people would moan

If they made the system transparent, no one would complain. It's the mystery and subjectivity that makes it so annoying.

To be honest I don't actually think that there is any subjectivity involved. The decisions seem to be based entirely on the stats, I just think that they are interpreting them in the wrong way.

To be honest i like that about them. We all know the darlings that get them week in week out. As for the other random ones well i think you win some and lose some.

Yeah it's not the fairest system in the world but football isn't fair, the better fantasy players aren't always the best players in real life, and vice versa - so it's not like the BPs let down an otherwise unflawed game.

To me i just find it makes things a bit more interesting.

Also, if there is indeed a proper system, then there can't be any subjectivity within that? Meh, it is what it is.

Uber annoying that you can't play the wildcard after gameweek 27. It would be very useful to get rid of all the shitters that you'll have purely for all the doubles in 27.

It's a luxury as it is, personally i'd like to see it back to one WC again next year. Plus i'd like to see minus points for conceding penalties (whether they are converted or not)

Good idea that. The emergency captain needs to f*ck right off too, naturally.

It's the fact that players get minus points for own goals that piss me off. The vast majority of OG are entirely blameless whereas completely the opposite is true for conceding penalties.
