A battling performance by Gerard Houllier’s side this afternoon leaves Chelsea outside the top four looking in as the New Year was heralded in by a cracking game at Stamford Bridge.

With Arsenal, Spurs and both Manchester sides all winning yesterday, the onus was on the champions to follow suit, but the visitors spoiled the party by snatching a last-gasp leveller to leave London with a point -as well as their tally of seven yellow cards- in a markedly physical contest.

Frank Lampard’s spot-kick opener suggests he has regained the position as number one penalty taker, following Didier Drogba’s miss at Tottenham a couple of weeks ago. In spite of this, Drogba’s goal and assist takes his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total to 20 points (pre-Bonus Point allocation) in the last three game weeks, which, happily for his Fantasy Owners, is more in line with his early season points returns, a huge improvement on the 17 points in his previous seven game weeks, 11-17.

Remarkably, Chelsea had failed to score more than one goal in a league match since game week ten but, facing a porous Villa defence, they at least found themselves amongst the goals going forward, though a poor defensive performance will have done little to instill confidence in Carlo Ancelotti’s title ambitions. They now have chalked up just one clean sheet in their last eight league games.

The nature of the draw, in particular, will be bitterly disappointing to the Italian, as Chelsea, having trailed for most of the second half, seemed set to win it at the death only to throw away their lead seconds from the final whistle, with Houllier’s side scoring more than one goal in an away game for only the second time this season.

Most pleased of all, undoubtedly, will be Sir Alex Ferguson, whose Man United side now lead their rivals by six points with a game in hand, as Chelsea’s hangover now continues into 2011.

    Konchesky, Rafael, Bardsley
    Nani, Adam, VDV, Nasri
    Drogba, Tevez, Berbatov

    Bench: foster, yaya, coleman, shawcross

Already done 2 free drunk transfers last night.... ive sold carroll and im starting to realise it may bite me on the butt if hes back soon. I bought him at 5.0 too.

I would think its unlikely konchesky will play both games. My opinion is Skrtel would be a better option, if you can do it.

Are people not concerned about the possibility of Liverpool players being rested for the two premiership games, because they have Man Utd in-between both games in the FA Cup with the Blackpool game only 3 days later, and Everton 4 days after the Blackpool game. I have a feeling they wont play their strongest squad against Blackpool.

I can see Konchesky playing one of the two doubles and Gerrard/Torres possibly playing both unless they need to be rested.

I ahve the same thoughts. But i'm sticking with drogba, he looks on the up and has wolves and blackburn up next. Torres can come good, sure, but so far he's not shown the same form as recent seasons. i'm a liverpool fan and he gets less chances than drogba in a game. However, against blackpool and blackburn i think anything can happen. i'm sticking with drogba as my captain though, against bottom team wolves. Lampards back and that should increase drogbas tally too.

    Kolorov Konchesky Baines Vidic (1.Eardly)
    Nani VDV Nasri Ethers (3.Diame)
    Drogba Elmander (2.Carroll)

Currently looking at whether to make any transfers for GW22. My team at the moment is:

    Foster, Gordon
    Vidic, Konchesky, Hangeland, Bardsley, Kolarov
Van Der Vaart, Nani, Nasri, Bale, Adam
    Tevez, Berbatov, Carroll

Players I’m thinking of removing are Carroll/Nasri – also not to certain about Konchesky, as the Liverpool defence isn’t too solid. Oh and is it time to remove one of VDV/Bale?

I have 1.8 in the bank and one free transfer.

      Konchesky to Evatt/Crainey.
Need more info on Nani and Carroll.
If Nanis ok than you play 5 at mid and sit the big gurl.
I think Bale and VDV is a good thing as long as the stay on form you get great value. Personally Im doing Nasri and Fabs

    Begovic
    Skrtel, Baines, Simpson
    Nani, Nasri, Bale, VDV, Adam
    Tevez, Torres

    Subs: Robinson, Kolarov, Coleman, Carroll

With Stoke having United away im half thinking of Robinson -> Kingson for 4 points. Just worried Gilks could be back for Blackpool's second DGW - anyone here know?

Also you gain those points in GW 24 as well - those players all have a double GW in 24 as well, not just 22...

konchesky hasn't been dropped yet. he's missed one game in a week where plenty of players were rested (rafael and kolarov for example). konchesky not being on the bench could either be a good or a bad thing. it could mean have a complete rest and come back into the side next match. or it could mean he went a bit awol after being jeered off last game and woy didn't think he was in the right frame of mind to start? who knows. he should get one game as aurelio seems incapable of 2 games in a week over the past 2 years. Best case scenario is konch plays blackburn, aurelio gainst man utd 3 days later and konchesky coems back in for the blackpool game after that. woy is good at ignoring the obvious (e.g not playing a fit agger, playing meireles on the right) so he may still think konchesky is the better option

Or Woy recognises the attacking options Aurelio brings and plays him. Let's face it, his job is on the line and he'll play his strongest team in the league.

        Doesn't explain completely dropping Konch.

If Konchesky is not injured then his prospects of playing while Aurelio is now fit don't look good. Having said that, Woy may play him away from home where he's not going to get as much stick.

After a few name ideas for a H2H Cup I am starting later in the season. Names so far are FPL Grand Slam Cup or the FPL Open seeing it will be similar to how a tennis tournament runs with seedings etc. Any ideas?

A number of spots will be saved for players depending on overall rank. There will be spots for qualifiers on scoring in a certain GW. Seeds will be the highest "x" players in the comp. Seeds will play the "qualifiers in the 1st round. Number 1 seed plays lowest qualifier & so on. Abit of work sorting a draw but after that it's not too bad.

Something like a top million overall rank would be a qualifying rule. Similar to the Scout Cup but the draw will be made for the whole tournament at the beginning so you will know who your next round rivals could be.

he's got arsenal this week though, i think he could do well the follwing week against wolves at home. I am tempted to put rafael in his place because rafael has stoke this week and a double GW in 24...
