A battling performance by Gerard Houllier’s side this afternoon leaves Chelsea outside the top four looking in as the New Year was heralded in by a cracking game at Stamford Bridge.

With Arsenal, Spurs and both Manchester sides all winning yesterday, the onus was on the champions to follow suit, but the visitors spoiled the party by snatching a last-gasp leveller to leave London with a point -as well as their tally of seven yellow cards- in a markedly physical contest.

Frank Lampard’s spot-kick opener suggests he has regained the position as number one penalty taker, following Didier Drogba’s miss at Tottenham a couple of weeks ago. In spite of this, Drogba’s goal and assist takes his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total to 20 points (pre-Bonus Point allocation) in the last three game weeks, which, happily for his Fantasy Owners, is more in line with his early season points returns, a huge improvement on the 17 points in his previous seven game weeks, 11-17.

Remarkably, Chelsea had failed to score more than one goal in a league match since game week ten but, facing a porous Villa defence, they at least found themselves amongst the goals going forward, though a poor defensive performance will have done little to instill confidence in Carlo Ancelotti’s title ambitions. They now have chalked up just one clean sheet in their last eight league games.

The nature of the draw, in particular, will be bitterly disappointing to the Italian, as Chelsea, having trailed for most of the second half, seemed set to win it at the death only to throw away their lead seconds from the final whistle, with Houllier’s side scoring more than one goal in an away game for only the second time this season.

Most pleased of all, undoubtedly, will be Sir Alex Ferguson, whose Man United side now lead their rivals by six points with a game in hand, as Chelsea’s hangover now continues into 2011.

            2 reasons...2 home > 2 away
            blackpool > liverpool

and adam is a must have so ye for mgp is good

blackpool seem like wigan in that their defenders get random clean sheets. it seems impossible not to say skrtel, at least if this dbw turns into a double lameweek with liverpool's 2 away games you'll have skrtel for EVE, double gw, STK to come.

Annoying. I fancy Blackpool to keep 1 cleansheet in the double and thats 8 points plus.

I may just get evatt this week and Skrtel later.

Adam, Varney and Evatt. Can afford fabregas next week now and wildcard them out later. They have 5 out of 6 at home (their away form is better admittedly but im always one for hoem advantage) and two doubles. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway. I'd hope that thyd play at least 3 of the 4 DGW fixtures.

    Tevez (*c) 4

Sorry guys if this has been discussed loads of time lately, but I was on holiday for the last four days:

A.Do we know anything about the Nani injury?
B.The big Greek won't start another game, right?
C.Why was Kolarov subbed after 57 minutes, injured?

    Cheers.

      A. all we got was should be available for stoke (not worth getting rid DGW)
      B. maybe rotation might get him playing 1 game cos of the FA cup tie
      C. He had a bad game and mancini was making a point

I think Nani is still a doubt
I think the Big Greek will have some part to play in at least one of the 2 liverpool games.
Kolarov was subbed not because of injury, but because he was playing crap.

Posted this last night, but it was near midnight so didn't get much feedback.
With Begovic being a bargain in goal for Stoke (granted his position is under threat) and Stockdale in goal for Fulham until the end of January (Schwarzer is 0.9 more expensive) You could have a fairly cheap rotation rating.

    January WC onwards, Stoke/Fulham Rotations

    (H) Bolton
    (H) Stoke & (A) Liverpool
    (H) Newcastle
    (H) Sunderland
    (H) Chelsea/ (A)Birmingham & (A)Stoke
    (H) West Brom
    (H) Blackburn
    (H) Newcastle
    (H) Blackpool
    (A) Tottenham
    (H) Bolton/(H) Wolves
    (A) Wolves
    (A) Blackpool
    (H) Liverpool
    (A) Birmingham
    (H) Wigan

Gets a bit awry with 3 Away Games in the last 5 though.

      Me.

3 BP's away to City = Captain material. I'm expecting an assist, a goal, 4 Bp's and a clean sheet and a yellow card.

      =16 x 2
      =32

and that's not even that optimistic.

Nope just done in order of your bench, as long as you have a minimum of 3 defenders playing. If not then the first defender will come in no matter what the order.

Not so, It will sub in the first player off your bench that doesn't break formation rules. If you only played three defenders it would sub in a defender, because you a required to field at least three defenders.

52 points this week, 16 from the bench so that's good.
Teams in excellent shape for next week, apart from the 8 point hit to get in a Blackpool treble, madness?
Team value at 109.0, wildcard week 23, I'm determined to get back to around 18th in the country after dropping to 52000.

simple answer yea it is madness, adam worth the hit, maybe striker but defender for a hit, youve got to consider what points the players your taking out will get you.....

Don't worry I did an 8 pointer to get Evatt, Aam and Gilks. But my theory is:

Gilks will outscore Krul and Mignolet who will both not play.
Evatt will outscore Foley most likely.
And Adam will outscore N'Zogbia especially as he will be my captain.

But outscore *by 4pts* is the crucial detail. Captaining someone does not validate this theory. Who says Gilks will play? Kingson has played last two games at least.

How the heck are you so high after taking three 20+pts hits?! Not the best way to play the game long term, in my opinion. From someone who has finished above you in each of the last 3 seasons.

Ok, sorry, he was hardly in the game compared to Fabregas. Nasri isn't going to get much BP now either. Sure Nasri might score next game, but long term we all know who's going to come out on top.

Nasri could have easily had 3 assists yesterday. He put RVP through twice and teed up Wilshere for a good chance.

Fabregas will obviously see more of the ball, being in central midfield, but Nasri would have come out with the more points yesterday had his teammates been more composed in front of goal.

I also don't agree with the notion that because he missed out on bonus on this occasion, it'll continue to happen. He played well yesterday, and if he continues to do so, he'll pick up points.

Nasri is almost just as likely to score points as Fab so 4 points not worth it it.
