A battling performance by Gerard Houllier’s side this afternoon leaves Chelsea outside the top four looking in as the New Year was heralded in by a cracking game at Stamford Bridge.

With Arsenal, Spurs and both Manchester sides all winning yesterday, the onus was on the champions to follow suit, but the visitors spoiled the party by snatching a last-gasp leveller to leave London with a point -as well as their tally of seven yellow cards- in a markedly physical contest.

Frank Lampard’s spot-kick opener suggests he has regained the position as number one penalty taker, following Didier Drogba’s miss at Tottenham a couple of weeks ago. In spite of this, Drogba’s goal and assist takes his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total to 20 points (pre-Bonus Point allocation) in the last three game weeks, which, happily for his Fantasy Owners, is more in line with his early season points returns, a huge improvement on the 17 points in his previous seven game weeks, 11-17.

Remarkably, Chelsea had failed to score more than one goal in a league match since game week ten but, facing a porous Villa defence, they at least found themselves amongst the goals going forward, though a poor defensive performance will have done little to instill confidence in Carlo Ancelotti’s title ambitions. They now have chalked up just one clean sheet in their last eight league games.

The nature of the draw, in particular, will be bitterly disappointing to the Italian, as Chelsea, having trailed for most of the second half, seemed set to win it at the death only to throw away their lead seconds from the final whistle, with Houllier’s side scoring more than one goal in an away game for only the second time this season.

Most pleased of all, undoubtedly, will be Sir Alex Ferguson, whose Man United side now lead their rivals by six points with a game in hand, as Chelsea’s hangover now continues into 2011.

    Hey guys,

Anyone captaining a man united player this week?

United powerful at home and the team sheet will be out.
For example if I see Nani or Berba on that line up ill be very tempted.

I fancy Adam to do well but I feel wrong captaining a Blackpool player and DGW's have screwed me over in the past.

    what do you guys think?

i think people need to look at a few things

its worth taking a points hits for blackpool defender/s if your playing your wildcard gw27

if your playing wildcard gw24 then i believe it isnt, blackpools fixtures are pretty good over the coming week but its not worth a hit for a defender unless your struggling to play defenders then it is as unless they conceed a lot of goals he should get you at least 4 points

depending on your tactic depends on if you should take hits

I have to laugh at Simpson scoring more (on my bench) than Vidic, Kolarov and Krygiakos put together on the field. The first time in a few weeks I haven't needed him subbing on and he gets more than his usual 1pt. Ah well...

These are my three probable transfers this week:

    Robinson out for Kingson
    Malouda out for Adam
    Bent out for Torres

This leaves me with enough cash to upgrade Nasri to Fabregas next week.

    Any thoughts?

Would you say it's better to get rid of Bale or Malouda? (I have VDV, and if I got rid of Bale I wouldn't be able to afford Fab next week)

looking at your team i would keep malouda for the chelsea coverage, a lot of people have malouda AND drogba so not having any could really damage you. youve doubled up on bale and VDV which i understand why but you need to get rid of one because theres only so many points that can be shared around, i would dump bale for adam and bent out for torres, im doing nasri to adam and bent to torres because i have fabregas already, wait till your wildcard to upgrade nasri

    Baines~Kyrgiakos ~ Rafael
    Gerrard~VDV~Adam~MGP
    Torres~Drogs~Campbell (c)

    (hart~Yaya~Onuoha~foley)

Thanks friends... cant trust Tores/gerrard in away game.
so the captain option is Adam. However, BL will concede and adam might get an assist or 2 maximum.

But in the long scheme of things Id expect Reina to get at least 4 points more than Gordon (away at villa) and maybe more than Gordon next week

And then Reina has another double again.

I dont see Gordon getting within 4 points of Reina when Reina has 2 more games and Gordon also has Villa away and the Derby to contend with aswell.

If he was just dropped in favour of Aurelio then it's unlikely he'd have been pushed completely out of the squad in my opinion. I also think it would be borderline stupidity to take a player with Aurelio's injury history and play him in such a large number of games over a short period.

Interesting. Surely they'll give Moyes an opportunity to grab a striker in the January transfer market?

dno why theyd want to sack moyes

if he had a half decent striker theyd be at least about 7th

It would be a ridiculous decision. Consistently in the top 8 with an awful budget.

Give him money for a 15-20 goal a season striker.

Yeah, RBJ, there really was no need for that from Mancini (Kolarov).

Cost me a green arrow and my lead at top of my mini leahue now down to 3 pts.
