A battling performance by Gerard Houllier’s side this afternoon leaves Chelsea outside the top four looking in as the New Year was heralded in by a cracking game at Stamford Bridge.

With Arsenal, Spurs and both Manchester sides all winning yesterday, the onus was on the champions to follow suit, but the visitors spoiled the party by snatching a last-gasp leveller to leave London with a point -as well as their tally of seven yellow cards- in a markedly physical contest.

Frank Lampard’s spot-kick opener suggests he has regained the position as number one penalty taker, following Didier Drogba’s miss at Tottenham a couple of weeks ago. In spite of this, Drogba’s goal and assist takes his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total to 20 points (pre-Bonus Point allocation) in the last three game weeks, which, happily for his Fantasy Owners, is more in line with his early season points returns, a huge improvement on the 17 points in his previous seven game weeks, 11-17.

Remarkably, Chelsea had failed to score more than one goal in a league match since game week ten but, facing a porous Villa defence, they at least found themselves amongst the goals going forward, though a poor defensive performance will have done little to instill confidence in Carlo Ancelotti’s title ambitions. They now have chalked up just one clean sheet in their last eight league games.

The nature of the draw, in particular, will be bitterly disappointing to the Italian, as Chelsea, having trailed for most of the second half, seemed set to win it at the death only to throw away their lead seconds from the final whistle, with Houllier’s side scoring more than one goal in an away game for only the second time this season.

Most pleased of all, undoubtedly, will be Sir Alex Ferguson, whose Man United side now lead their rivals by six points with a game in hand, as Chelsea’s hangover now continues into 2011.

i'd be a bit wary on konchesky - don't think he'll play both games. Aurelio looked sharp for liverpool this week and should start against blackburn (unless he's rested for the FA Cup game on the 8th).

Rafael should be back for United after Nevilles stinker 😀 Coleman and Kolarov have tough games for clean sheets. Tricky one sorting the defence this week..

Depends how early you bought Carroll though. I got him at 5.0 and now he's 6.5, so i would lose 0.8 if I sell him and buy back afterwards. For me to take him out I would'nt be able to replace him again afterwards 🙁 Consider that if you are planning on taking carroll out.

For those deciding between DJ & Varney...

    Varney: 5.3 PPG at home.
    DJ: 2.6 PPG at home.

Varney is also better value than DJ.

    Still unsure? 🙂

My team is careening,am considering 8pt hit to get it back on an even keel allowing for DGW 22&24. don't much like giving away another H2H in my mini league. It would potentially give me six doubles for 22 and 9 for 24. Do you reckon it worthwhile?

Evening all, I am trailing my mini-league rival by 50 points after clawing back 10 points this GW. Looking to make some real ground in the upcoming doubles which I am pretty sure he is oblivious to.

I already have Konchesky and Torres and have 2 free transfers for this GW. I am definitely doing to do Ethers > Adam and Foley > Evatt but am considering an additional 2 transfers for an 8 point hit. These would be Tevez/Drogba > DJ Campbell and Bale/VDV > Gerrard.

Not sure which of these pairings I would get rid of thought but would only be short term until WC is played.

These moves would give me the max of 6 DGW players for this week and allow me to field a full team of 11 DGW players in GW25 for no further hits (barring injuries and bans).

    Advice?

I would advise against having a liverpool and blackpool defender lets say torres smashes in a hat trick v blackpool (unlikely i know) he would get you 1point. Also blackppol have birmingham which wont be easy so you could just end up with 2 points from him anyway.

Best case would probably konchesky(as you already have him)adam, torres and a blackpool striker

While we're all saying what we're doing...

I'm thinking of Bent + Ethers -> gerrard + DJ

does that have green arrow written all over it?

For a 4 point hit, Malouda -> Bale, MGP -> Adam and Cahill -> Fabregas. Worth it? Already have Nani and VDV.

Bale starting to hit some nice points, might have to be him though. Or Nani. Thanks.

People seem to be slamming this idea but Reina in for Krul as a third transfer (4pt hit) is starting to appeal to me. He plays 5 times in the next 3 gameweeks and would start all 3 over Foster imo.

I know it's a cardinal sin to take a hit for defensive players but 'if' he keeps 2 clean sheets in those 5 games then I think it's a smart move.

Anyone care to shoot me down?

i think hits are not too foolish when there are 2 dgws so close to each other

You would make the points back in game points alone over the next few weeks. Plus you would only have 1 keeper with Krul losing his place.

    My team is currently:

    Begovic/Stockdale
    Williamson/Kolarov/Vidic/Dann/Bardsley
    Nani/Brunt/Adam/Cahill/Van der Vaart
    Gyan/Torres/Tevez

    My transfer plan is this:

Gw 22 Cahill and Gyan to DJ and Gerrard
    Gw 23 No transfer
Gw 24 Rooney for Tevez and some double gw defender in to fund Rooney to Tevez.

This will give me 4 double gw players in Gw 22 and 9 double gw players in Gw 24....then I will use my wildcard for Gw 27.

    Good plan?
