The Wayne Rooney “worldie” aside, it was all far from spectacular day. But then, we were never going to get another Saturday like the last – despite West Brom doing their best to self-destruct Arsenal “stylee” at the Hawthorns.

That 3-3 draw with West Ham helped Paul Merson practice his Harry Met Sally routine in the Sky Sports studio, but somehow left us Fantasy Managers well short of an orgasmic state. Peter Odemwingie missed ample opportunities to notch, leaving him with just an assist to reward this week’s heavy investment. We can have a good old moan about that over a jar or two tonight but, in the main, most of us have little to grumble about.

Robin Van Persie again delivered a most satisfactory climax. He mercilessly converted two chances to help the Gunners see off Wolves at the Emirates, returning 20 points for the FPL captaincy before the Bonus Points are even dished out. Yet another maximum duly arrived, as Van Persie overshadowed the likes of Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas once again – that pair and their owners had to be content with assists and the agony of another string of missed goalscoring opportunities at the Emirates. Van Persie’s shadow is looming large over his Arsenal team-mates.

Birmingham were the other double Gameweek participants to stick nicely to the script. They played contributed to a dire game at St Andrews, but battled manfully to resist the Stoke set-piece bombardment and reward defensive investment in the likes of Ben Foster, Roger Johnson and Liam Ridgewell. Nikola Zigic again lumbered into view to fire the winner for Alex McLeish’s side; the Serb is becoming an unlikely hero at St Andrews and is 1-0 up over Odemwingie in the battle of the Gameweek mid-price strikers.

Investment in Newcastle and Stoke went largely unrewarded unless you gambled on the Magpies back four – the clean sheet at Ewood Park was richly deserved if you did. As for Charlie Adam, he avoided his yellow card, earned an assist and did his usual sprinkler routine in the middle of the park, spraying the ball at will around the scurrying Villa defence. Much respect. Muchas Bonus Points – yet again.

So we have little to moan about then? Well not quite. Harry Redknapp benched Aaron Lennon at Sunderland for some reason – just to throw us off the scent. His owners can wallow in his single point tonight, while the rest of us turn our attention to the pleasure of figuring out how we’re going to fix our broken squads for the blank in Gameweek 28.

This Saturday night’s alright for Fantasy Managers – but you really don’t have to look far to find a fresh torment.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Good - Adam, he's out soon so the more price rises the better.
Bad - Barton and Meireles who are both on the radar
Ugly - VdV dropping. Surprising and annoying, he's out for Cahill before the next GW, just hope I'm not forced into an early move.

        - Agree on VDV --> Cahill. (Will do Kelly --> Walker to fund it).

Commentary For Man United's Winner :

    Nani

Roooneyyy!!!.... oh wonderfull. what a goal and what a time in what a place. What a player. Wayne Rooney out of this world.

    2-1 United

well, initially the ball out from paul scholes is excellent cuz it's quick and he doesn't bother about zabaleta this time but it gets a little deflection now that's a little bit of luck and that is simply no luck from rooney. They talk about this lad.. they said he didn't want to be here. They said he'd lost the desire to play for Manchester United, they said it was just about the money. And THAT is just about class.

Absolutely out of this world. What a finish. fit to win any game.

One of the great goals in the history of the Manchester derby.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

The commentary for the goal was just absolute poetry ♥

And the goal truly was out of this world

Wayne Rooney.. I salute you ♥

I would never say that! I can do overheads no problem, but the timing for Tiotes, add to that it was his weak foot, the outside of his weak foot to be exact, for a defensive midfielder - man it was awesome. They are both great goals but for me this season
            1) Tiote v Arsenal
            2) Rooney v Man City
            3) Berbatov v Liverpool

I don't know about that, finding the one place the goalkeeper can't reach with your weaker foot from 30-odd yards is a pretty difficult skill to execute.

Plus, I just think it just looked better.

Very foolish of you to bring this to the table, considering what you've said about Nasri, Fabregas, Van Persie and Wilshere in the last 6 months.

One overhead kick doesn't make up for 12 months of embarrassingly poor displays for Wayne Rooney.

From a neutral perspective i'm with MFaulker on Rooney. Regarding the Fran comment, Granville is hardly impartial on United matters, is he?

This season Rooney doesn't even make the top 5 strikers in the league (hard pushed to make top 10?), and post Feb last year he hasn't done alot.

Like MF said, one (albeit spectacular) goal doesn't suddenly negate everything else.

                    Basically what MF said below.

I don't you had to. I don't think his ability to do something like that was ever in question. it was just his consistency, overall performances and desire to play for a side that he asked to leave in both the summer, and in October/November.

bar his goal, I didn't see much chance in Rooney's performance today. I thought he played quite poorly.

Before I sign off, a slightly positive twist on the Fabregas (c) decision.
The reason I chose him above RVP is not that I believed RVP wouldn't score well against Wolves, but that I believed Fabregas is more likely to play both of the games. I still believe this is true, and that the decision to (c) him will be the correct one.

I remember when Harry Redknapp threw the toys out of the pram when his board at West ham sold Impey to Leicester for 5 million quid.

Oh yeah, he did an excellent job at Leicester, I wouldn't ever argue something different.

I'm just noting that O'Neill has a history of spending over the odds for rather average English players.

it's a reaction to his him being over-praised somewhat for the job he did at Aston Villa.

In my eyes, he did very good jobs at both Leicester and Celtic, and was par for the course at Villa.

because when I played my wildcard, Fabregas was playing very well, while RVP was still recovering his form. I can't bring myself to do the 4-point crab-move, and it's hurting me, badly.

We'll see. I think Fabregas is just unlucky that Van Persie is playing so well that it's him dominating Arsenal's attacking points.

Fabregas really will pull a big score eventually, things just aren't going his way. He had a shot cleared off the line and had the ball in the net (but it was pulled back because the ref had already decided to give Arsenal a free-kick).

I suppose I should just change it and go with who has the goalscoring form, but I can't help feeling Fabregas has a 20-pointer in him, just lurking around the corner.

Yup. As you point out, he could have had nearly 20 today with a bit more luck.

I'll be losing him for the next GW, not least because it will cost me little to do so. Right now I'm torn as to whether I'll be bringing him back. A Walcott injury would make that decision very easy.

                Indeed.

Was going to say in the above post that MON had Leicester for the best period at the club in my lifetime.

Sven is doing an absolutely brilliant job here and there is alot of anticipation about the next few years if Sven sticks around, early days yet of course. In terms of acheivements so far though Sven has nothing on MON - i'm really hoping he will change this!

Why are you ABU's so incapable of that? You don'thavto all it goal-of-the-century or somesuch, but just 'good (great) goal"?

And - depending on defintion - I would argue he was having a fine game before that. Not great - a hat-trick would have been nice 🙂 - but a good game. Challenging on the offense, the best forward=defender on D.

All the best goal I've ever seen talk is a bit red-tinted. It's an overhead kick, and a great one, but there are better examples of the craft!

yeah definitely. Overhead's and volleying in crosses on the full are great to watch but it's all about split second timing and anyone can get it right now and then.

Imo this is the best bicycle I've seen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlUkriEojAk&feature=related

Speed the cross comes in at makes it an even more difficult technique. Sinclair's was awesome but the high looping cross made it easier to time it.

The tekkers on that was amazing.

What makes Sinclair's so special for me is how far out he was when he hit it.

The build up to that goal is much sweeter. It was all pretty ugly before Sinclair hit it.

I won't re-examine all those links ... I'll even stipulate it wasn't THE GREATEST GOAL EVER

It was just a great goal at a great time vs. a great opponent

I don't care to rank it all-time or somesuch, but didn't it make you move out your seat?

We can disagree about Roon's play up to that point ... but it was, at the very least, very, very good. Yeah?

i guess i miss people's logic in loading up on double game weekers this week to then turn around and have only 9 or 10 fieldable players next week. Essentially, you've voided that double game week as at least two of your double game weekers are now singles and their double is just coverage for next weeks missed fixture...

unless ars/tot comes through of course...otherwise, it's just running in mud.

I would tend to agree but Arsenal's (and brums) 2 fixtures are at home.....and it is probably going to be worth a hit or 2 to get them out next week.......the astute ones amongst us played our wildcard in week 26 to allow 2 freebies to ship a couple out next week!!

Bearing in mind Arsenal had Barca midweek and him being doubtful, I did Djourou to RJohnson (another DGW to follow) to avoid having too many blanks next - not feeling that great after all

        I did the same move.

Djourou being fit didn't change my mind in the end. I just couldn't afford to have 6 players out next week, and now I only need 1 change to field XI next week bar suspensions and injuries, and I have 2 frees. Hoping that Chelsea get knocked out of the cup then I'd get the ManUtd double gameweek and keeping Berbatov might actually turn out to be the right move.

            No.

Because I'll want Johnson for GW 29 and onwards.

It saves me having to do Djourou/Kelly > R. Johnson for GW 29.

I also get a price rise, and now, I have 2 frees next week to really build a squad to finish the season strongly. Johnson being one of my lynchpins.

Not as nice as a double GW in 29.

It also doesn't help that Djourou doesn't play GW 28.

It's easier to reverse the transfer anyway if need be. Kelly > Djourou possibly.

Kelly at LIV is great value at 4.4. Walker VIL will see you to the season's end at 4.0.
However, the other consideration at 5.7 is Kolarov. He's an OOP and now has an excellent run of home fix. Worth the extra investment imo.
