Thanks to the Carling Cup Final and Charlie Adam’s dodgy temperament (amongst other factors), this week was shaping up to be a painful one for many a Fantasy Manager unless a few brave decisions were made, particularly in the midfield area. With popular options such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Theo Walcott, Rafael Van der Vaart, and Adam all missing out, fortune -and plenty luck- favoured the brave souls who plumped for Aston Villa and Wolves midfielders in particular.

Villa annihilated Blackburn 4-1, with six saves from Paul Robinson preventing the scoreline from further embarrassing Steve Kean’s side, as Ashley Young and Stewart Downing racked up the points for their Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Owners. Young bagged two goals and an assist, whilst Downing helped himself to a goal and an assist and the pair picked up three and two Bonus Points respectively, making their hauls 18 and 12 for the gameweek. With a great run of games ahead, there will no doubt be plenty investment in the pair over the next few weeks.

Over at Wolves, Mick McCarthy’s side recorded their best-ever Premier League win to jump out of the relegation zone. Jamie O’Hara and Matt Jarvis each scored a goal as Blackpool, without Charlie Adam, self-imploded, mainly thanks to DJ Campbell’s pointless red card which now deprives Ian Holloway of his star striker for the next three games.

O’Hara has now scored in his last two games and although he will miss the next league match with parent club Spurs, is proving to be essential in the club’s relegation battle. He picked up 2 Bonus Points, taking this week’s tally to 10. Adding this to his 3 last week, and the loanee is looking like a real alternative to Charlie Adam. Jarvis’ goal and a Wolves clean sheet saw him pick up 8 points, and, coming off a 2 Bonus Point performance last week, also looks key to his club’s survival chances.

With four games to go before we can draw a line under what has been a thoroughly frustrating gameweek, these four players currently sit at the top of the midfield scorers for gameweek 28, and any team with a combination of Young plus one, or even two, can expect a nice little boost up the rankings tonight. Depending on that number of points hits, of course.

crocked it in the warm-up with a pull to his thigh muscle. Those injuries need time to heal, if Barton is rushed back too soon it will just become worse.

I know we are a footy site but i gots a rugby question.

Does the 2 point extra point try need to be taken from x amount of yards back from where the try went in? Why did Flood have to take the 2 point kick from such a tough angle I guess is my question.

55-8 with 7 and MAYBE Rooney(C) to come, very happy, my hits, Giggs and Barton really backfired today, hopefully Giggles can get some at Chelsea.

Speaking of Rooney, I have prepared myself to be disappointed that he may be banned, while I think you could argue he was just barging past McCarthy and it was inintentional, I can also see the other argument that it was. Is there a chance the FA will move quick enough for him to be banned for Tuesday night?

Remember the Gerrard incident? I doubt it. The strange thing with that elbow today was usually when rooney lashes out he is clearly fired up. There was no frustration in his body language before he did that, and he didn't have any issues with McCarthy either so it came completely out of the blue. Hard to say if he meant it or not, i guess only he would know. The ref did see it clearly and didn't take any action so i doubt anything more will happen tbh.

Is anyone backing chelsea on tuesday as it seems no ones brought any chelsea players in or is it just because you dont want to play against yourself and are favouring man utd because of the double gameweek?

he elbowed James McCarthy running past him early on, I thought he could be in trouble, but folk here seem to think he will be okay, haunted with his tap in goal to give me 22 as (C) and 55 with 7 to go, nice!

He elbowed somebody in the face outside play when running by him. Completely unnecessary and disrespectful, but can't see him being banned.

It could have been a lot worse i guess, Coleman was worth the hit and Berba with the assist just about made than move worthwhile although i'm goona want to ship the useless lump out again next week for Saha!!

gutted that Jarvis did not get a bonus!

Is it naughty to leave all my players on the bench and to have played rvp / Adam / Johnson, so my opponents think I've slipped up until Tuesday when ashley young brings his 18 points in?
