A new regular – the Masterplan takes a single issue haunting a good deal of Fantasy Managers and explores an array of options on the table – discussing the merits of each. This time around, it’s the Carlos Tevez conundrum, as the bustling Argentine continues his decline from hero to zero.

The Problem

Carlos Tevez has scored just a single goal in his last nine appearances and on Sunday sat out of the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea after failing a fitness test on a groin injury. Reports this week stated that Tevez remains a doubt for the gameweek 31 clash with Sunderland at Eastlands. Tevez is clearly a problem for his Fantasy owners then (over 37% of Fantasy Premier League managers), who must decide whether to hold and hope for an upturn in fortunes or rid themselves of a player who, at one stage, looked almost essential.

Plan A

There’s little need to engage the brain here – Robin Van Persie is surely the obvious replacement. Frighteningly consistent since his return from long-term injury, the Dutchman made a recovery from a recent knee problem to once again score in the 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns. Arsenal also have a double fixture in gameweek 33, a factor which will surely see Van Persie maintain his near essential status.

Plan B

For those already in possession of Van Persie, the Tevez issue could well offer the opportunity to free up some cash for heavy investment in other areas, particularly midfield. The timing is good – both Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett and Sunderland’s Danny Welbeck appear to offer rock-bottom priced assets as forwards, who could well offer a steady stream of attacking returns and Bonus Points in the coming gameweeks.

Fetching one of these two for Tevez would allow funds for either Frank Lampard or an Arsenal midfielder ahead of their gameweek 33 double fixture. This also clears the way for a move to a possible 4-5-1 Fantasy formation, with attacking defenders like Everton’s Seamus Coleman and double gameweek assets like Birmingham’s Roger Johnson and Chelsea’s David Luiz, coming to the fore, along with Stoke’s Robert Huth, Blackburn’s Chris Samba and even Villa’s Kyle Walker.

Plan C

Opt for a differential – the likes of Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Darren Bent all offer potential lower down the price bracket and have relatively slim ownership amongst Fantasy Premier League Managers. This looks to be a decent option for those chasing a lead who need to gamble on a differential – Suarez looks the most assured having established himself as the central figure in the Kenny Dalglish revolution. The Uruguayan is the form striker in the Fantasy Premier League, but still represents a gamble given Liverpool’s fixtures, which appear to offer little assistance with City and Arsenal looming.

Plan D

Take a risk on a similarly price option – Wayne Rooney is player in question here, having shown strong form in recent gameweeks (5 goals in 7 starts), clearly offers the potential to replace the kind of scores that Tevez was producing. That potential is however, somewhat disrupted by rotation in the United forward line, with Alex Ferguson seemingly uncertain over Rooney’s partner in attack. Rooney tends to drop deeper with either Javier Hernandez or Dimitar Berbatov in tandem and that is a slight concern – it works for Tevez however and spot-kicks, so profitable for the City man, are also a factor behind Rooney’s appeal. The other major issue here is United’s blank fixture. Forthcoming games against West Ham and Fulham look favourable, but when gameweek 33 arrives, you’ll currently have to bench or sell.

The other alternative is to gamble on a Chelsea forward – take your pick from Dider Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Fernando Torres. The latter looks the most assured of starts but, on current form, the least assured of returns. Chelsea’s gameweek 33 double fixture falls in his favour though, making him an obvious route for current Tevez owners seeking to gamble on a major differential with the potential to explode.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Do, the Iron Age bog bodies exhibit is very good, I've worked in a good few bogs (I particularly like wetland archaeology) and the preservation is amazing.
The other bog body found around the same time Clonycavan Man, had hair gel from Portugal in his hair. Mad stuff.
The ongoing theory is that these were important personages ritually killed at the bogs marking territorial boundaries

Big Champions League Off again then between Spurs and City, I hope Spurs get it, I hate City now, so fooking boring.

Not too sure about picking a chelsea striker as they're all vulnerable to rotation. Drogba should be playing every game but you never know what Ancelotti will do. Don't think it's necessary to have many double GW players that week as the players you bring in won't necessarily deliver and the hits could cost you.

I am very fond off Suarez. The ultimate question at the moment is this or next GW for Luiz.

p.S. Suarez has best ppg of all strikers.

Should have mentioned that I am using my wildcard next week so Luiz or Suarez will definitely be in the following GW.

I think that Suarez may have better chances against wba. Stoke is always a physical game so will Luiz win many headers?

Stoke are quite a big side, but I think Chelsea will win. Unfortunately I think Chelsea are starting to get a bit more confidence, I can see a few goals in this one...

I think the best we can hope for is a CS, but Stoke did score 4 in their last game so confidence would be high.

On the Suarez side it looks like WBA may have tightened up with Hodgson and he is the former manager. Will the players be out to prove a point?

No its logic. He got several yellows and Stoke are strong side, there will be a lot of aerial duels and he could easily be pissed of. I hardly wait to see him against Catermole 🙂

It's not that I don't think he is a decent footballer (decent is the right term, he's not shit he's not brilliant) but he has played bugger all football this season - Capello's promise to pick the team purely on form is a load of bullshit. Milner does not deserve to be in the squad.

im a fixtures man personally ole rocky.

i think rvp for sure yeah. Suarez? liverpools fixtures aint that good really are they, despite the fact he could score v anyone.
As much as it pains me to say it, i think ill hang onto defoe (got him last week). All those chances, he'll score regular enough, and he has decent fixtures, and we know how he does agin wigan. So you could do worse than get him, but then gw 33 is off.

          wouldnt get albrighton or ohara personally, my midfield curently is;

          nani, nasri, young, adam, dempsey.

dempsey for yo maybe but again, no game in 33. OR, a bit of an off the wall pick-ramires- ancellotti seems set to keep starting him, and he scored in that 442.

Fixtures man too but none really stand out!

Defoe is a very frustrating FPl players he could score 2,2,2,2 then BANG 20! I'd hold onto him if i were you but don't think i will be taking a hit to bring him in, i may bring in VDV and double up with Bale.

There are plenty to consider i suppose, basically your whole midfield! You planning on bringing in Lamps? would be the finishing touch for you i reckon.

Anyway have over a week to think about it and a few players may get injured ot make it easier for me!

would like lampard yeah, but it feels like an overreaction to a double gameweek if ever there was one. still probably in though yeah.

front line of rvp defoe and odemwingers, odem to go of course. itll be hard getting the cash for lamps, i dearly wish torres gets injured this week so i can get drogba instead.

Not only the DGW but some good fixtures too + Chelsea seem to be getting back into some form.

If Torres does get injured then bring in Drogs but if not i reckon you need Lamps. It will be hard for alot of people to fit him him, me as well. I think it will pay off though.

The Luis hype/anti-hype is equally ludicrous.

Last couple of games he's looked the best Chels player, along with Essien (although Es not so great FPL-wise), of the entire team.

'Course, an angry Drogs is a force of nature ...

Point is: Luiz seems a good FPL prospect vs. any opponent and is relatively cheap, to boot.

I did the Cech/Luiz double-down this week ... worked out. Way I figure, Chels' belief that they have an outside chance makes them a good FPL bet.

Sadly, I'll probably be forced to pick up Lamps to avoid too much exposure, as I only lead my mini-league by 20-30 points ... or 1 big Lampy game. Boo.

Depends on your goal. Do you want to defend a lead or are you chasing somebody.
If you are leading I'd get Adam asap. If you want to make up ground you could go for a differential, although it's very risky not to have him.

Made the mistake of replacing Coleman with Distin when concerned over Coleman's rotation post Everton's FA Cup exit to Reading (cost me staying in the scout cup also).

    A. Should I simply keep Distin to the end of the season?

    B. Replace Distin with Coleman from GW32?

    C. Forget Coleman transfer and replace A.Young for Malouda/Kalou GW32 (I can't afford Lamps)?

Kalou = No and Malouda is a bit of a worry too with rotation so that rules out C.

Ok lads Im in a battle for first in two of my leagues with the same guy and both are for money so any suggestions about my team would be great. He is currenty ahead by 5 points but it has been up and down for the last few weeks. My team is currently:

    Foster/Begovic

Coleman Walker Luiz Huth R Johnson

Nani Fabregas A Young Silva Wilshere

    Berba Torres Odem

Im thinking the top three have to go and Im going to bring in RVP, Carroll and Beckford(cheap to free up cash)

Then my mid would become Nani Lampard Fabregas Adam VDV

This would take place over 4 weeks. Berba for RVP this week and two next week for free.

    Thoughts???

Got a chance, but only if Bale Bellamy and Ramsey play well. If things go our way and England are a bit complacent (which I don't think they will be) then that's all we can hope for.

Worth bringing in an Arsenal defender for GW33? I'll already have RVP and Nasri? I think Walcott is attacking overkill.

    GW33 team

    Foster (Friedel)
    Luiz, Bardsley, Distin (Hughes) (Djourou)
A Young, Nasri, Larsson, Adam (Nani)
