An unconvincing 1-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Wigan may well have taken Chelsea to a single point off second-placed Arsenal but Roman Abramovich must, nevertheless, be smarting this evening. That £50m January splurge on the talents of Fernando Torres yet again proved fruitless today, with the Spaniard unable to find the net in a 30 minute appearance at the Bridge.

El Nino’s form is alarming enough on its own but casting an ever-increasing shadow over the whole scenario is a man deemed surplus to requirement and shipped out to Bolton on loan as Chelsea chose to splash the cash: Daniel Sturridge.

In the first 24 gameweeks of the season, Sturridge managed a paltry 160 minutes on the pitch -the culmination of a handful of substitute appearances at the tail end of games- but Owen Coyle’s faith in the youngster’s abilities has been continually rewarded since the Reebok switch.

Today, West Ham were the latest team to suffer at the hands of Sturridge, as a brace in the 3-0 home win brought his tally to a fantastic six goals in eight games for Bolton. Bearing in mind that both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have scored just one league goal apiece over the same time span and it’s fair to say that it’s not just Torres who currently suffers by comparison.

Sturridge’s merits were not missed by FFScout this weekend, with both Mark and Big Dunc selecting him for Scout Picks and Spot the Differential respectively. This week‘s Fantasy Flutter on a Sturridge double also came up trumps, much to Mark’s delight, I’ve been informed.

The Trotters’ forthcoming FA Cup semi-final may mean he has no league game next week but being cup-tied allows Sturridge to rest up in anticipation for the following week’s double gameweek, where he’ll surely be drafted in by many a Fantasy Manager. Bolton’s matches from here on in read (blank, ARS & ful, bla, SUN, blp, MCY) and with a few dodgy defences still to take on, Sturridge has the form and fixtures to suggest he’ll continue to put those more illustrious names at his parent club in the shade between now and the end of the season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

everyone knows why Luiz got three bonus points dont they? Because every c.unt and his brother bought him. They always do this shit with players bought by the masses, trying to keep them engaged. Horseshit, FPL monkey horseshit.

I can't really '+1' this without having watched a minute of the match today, but I'm inclined to agree.

A Chelsea defender in a 1-0 win against a Wigan side who can't score for shit must have been the best player on the pitch. 🙄

          Boo to you!

There's absolutely nothing in the Opta Stats here to suggest that Luiz was the best player on the pitch. He doesn't even appear to have been the best Chelsea defender... Ivanovic is ahead of him in virtually every category, and he also got an assist. But I suppose he isn't the man of the moment, so didn't get the recognition.

Well it would be equally silly of me to argue the opposite given that i've not seen the game either - so i won't go down that road.

As a mathematician though you should know that stats don't really paint the whole picture - so already attributing reasons such as him being the man of the moment would be a bit silly imo.

Obviously, but it's still wrong to totally ignore the stats, just because they *may* not provide an accurate reflection on what actually happened.

Like I said, I haven't watched the game, so what else am I meant to go by?

Well it's one thing to say that based on the stats it doesn't seem as if he should have got baps.

It's another to say that he got get the baps *because* loads of people got him in.

Do you see what i mean? He might not have deserved them - but there are plenty of reasons why despite that he might have got them, so to pick out one would seem strange.

listen TM, to be honest, alot of your smart remarks are so shit lately, and, ultimately, pretty thick. I didnt say it was for all the 3 bonus points, i said it was jsut for Luiz's.

and i also dont have a fukkin time machine. I never said it was dfo gonna happen beforehand, i said itsobvious in retrospect why he got them.

He could have got sent off, had a howler and caused his team to lose etc. So its not something you can have any great faith in until after the event.

in other words, your attempts at being a smartarse are geting even more embarassing for you. What are ye like....

I think it does. FPL love giving BPs to a player on the back of a big score and thousands of transfers in.

There have been plenty of occasions this season, although the only one I can think of now is Dembele getting 3 BPs at Blackburn - a game I watched and he did nothing - the week after he scored 13 points against Wolves and had 60k transfers in.

yeah. It always happens- off theback of big transfer in figures especially, often with new players. It keeps people engaged if they say to themselves ' hey, i bought him, and he got bonus points- im great, cant wait for next week'
          Consequently site traffic increases.

Pretty standard shit really. Load of bollox though.

    Foster (Bergovic)
R Johnson, Luiz (Huth, Djorou, Kolorov)
    Adam, Nani, Nasri, Lamps (Silva)
    Rooney, RVP, Welbeck

    Thinking of doing:

    Djorou to Clichy
    Silva to Ramires.

I have £0.3. cash and this clears me out.

It would give me a full team and 8 double gameweekers ..

Who said he was the best in the world? Stop putting words in to mouths to try and justify your shite argument. But on a side note, Yuvraj would get in to a ODI world 11 at this moment in time ahead of your boyfriend in your avatar.

Winners are like Spain? Where were they 10 years ago...they weren't winners..every time has its time, it's a cycle. India will do it when Sachin retires...to even think they don't have youngsters coming through is flawed. They consistently churn out new talent because on every street corner on every minute of every day the population plays cricket. And Austrailia now are a joke btw...if you want a team with no future pick them, aside from T.Paine they are an ageing bunch living on past triumphs. Even Tait decided to call it quits before the buck stops on him.

Cba responding to anymore of your idiocy.

    One more thing....

Diomansy Kamara - anyone seen him play much. He had his home debut at Leicester today and was properly immense, movement and ball control was beyond quality. Based on today i would have said he's a bit too good for championship football.

Has he just put in a blinder or am i right to be excited?

Who else is playing Player Manager? I'm finding it a bit of a chore. Even picking a team is an effort, having to clear the old list individually, get the team you want in the pulldown, then type in the new rank/value for them.

Even after all that, two random players have been my highest scorers this week (I eventually found out after struggling to find where the week's results are). Doubt I'll be putting any more money into it this season.

Will be livid if the club does let him go in the summer though. We seem to be making a right mess of sorting out a new contract for him.
