An unconvincing 1-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Wigan may well have taken Chelsea to a single point off second-placed Arsenal but Roman Abramovich must, nevertheless, be smarting this evening. That £50m January splurge on the talents of Fernando Torres yet again proved fruitless today, with the Spaniard unable to find the net in a 30 minute appearance at the Bridge.

El Nino’s form is alarming enough on its own but casting an ever-increasing shadow over the whole scenario is a man deemed surplus to requirement and shipped out to Bolton on loan as Chelsea chose to splash the cash: Daniel Sturridge.

In the first 24 gameweeks of the season, Sturridge managed a paltry 160 minutes on the pitch -the culmination of a handful of substitute appearances at the tail end of games- but Owen Coyle’s faith in the youngster’s abilities has been continually rewarded since the Reebok switch.

Today, West Ham were the latest team to suffer at the hands of Sturridge, as a brace in the 3-0 home win brought his tally to a fantastic six goals in eight games for Bolton. Bearing in mind that both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have scored just one league goal apiece over the same time span and it’s fair to say that it’s not just Torres who currently suffers by comparison.

Sturridge’s merits were not missed by FFScout this weekend, with both Mark and Big Dunc selecting him for Scout Picks and Spot the Differential respectively. This week‘s Fantasy Flutter on a Sturridge double also came up trumps, much to Mark’s delight, I’ve been informed.

The Trotters’ forthcoming FA Cup semi-final may mean he has no league game next week but being cup-tied allows Sturridge to rest up in anticipation for the following week’s double gameweek, where he’ll surely be drafted in by many a Fantasy Manager. Bolton’s matches from here on in read (blank, ARS & ful, bla, SUN, blp, MCY) and with a few dodgy defences still to take on, Sturridge has the form and fixtures to suggest he’ll continue to put those more illustrious names at his parent club in the shade between now and the end of the season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Guys, can I have your views on some transfers for the next GWK please? Price changes might come into effect meaning I cant afford it, so considering doing this now ..

    Foster (Bergovic)
R Johnson, Luiz (Huth, Djorou, Kolorov)
    Adam, Nani, Nasri, Lamps (Silva)
    Rooney, RVP, Welbeck

    Thinking of doing:

    a) Djorou to Clichy

    b) Silva to Ramires.

I have £0.3. cash and this clears me out.

It would give me a full team and 8 double gameweekers

If by next Fri it sounds like he is not going to be back and you don't have the funds for Clichy get Koscielny instead.

There'll be penalties won too, if he has any. Which are "assists" but aren't really assists (in my mind) in a real competition of being a goal provider.

All the rumours make sense. A) Fergie wants "2 or 3" major signings this summer. B) Utd don't have any money for massive signings so he would generate cash for that. C) Nani has asked for a (deserved) improved contract which Utd haven't yet granted. D) The Glazers are evil nobgoblins.

A} Bought Coleman for 4.4m. He's now worth 5.4m. I can sell him for 4.9m. Am i right in assuming that if drops in value i'll only be able to sell him for 4.8m?
    B) Is Coleman going to drop tonight? totalfpl says 99%, but also says protected. anyone care to make a guess?

Value is only relative to the market though. if we don't give Nasri what he wants, someone else will.

Simply in terms of wanting to be on the same wage as Fabregas, the demand isn't that ridiculous.

I don't see what he offers that other players in your team do to validate that sort of wage. Currently, Fabs is a better attacking midfielder. Walcott and Arshavin are better wingers. Wilshere and Song work well as the defensive pairing.

if Gareth Bale scored a goal like Etherington just did, it'd win goal of the season.

Bale also gave the ball away for the Jones goal.

So Bale has now assisted more Stoke players than he has Spurs players this calendar year.

Aye - he had a good rest during the game too - I'm treating VDV like Drogba earlier in the season: I keep giving him an extra game to redeem himself.

Kenwyne Jones looked a handful too - Spurs defence is a no-go area atm.

5 left, Laps capt. And I seriously tried to change to RVP at 11:30 and just missed the deadline. Still hope he has a belter as my closest rival doesnt have him

Besides who wasn't, ahem, nominated ... any thoughts on:

    1. who *should* (of those nominated) win, and
    2. who you think actually will win

    ???

[Samir Nasri, Gareth Bale, Carlos Tevez, Scott Parker, Charlie Adam, Rafael van der Vaart and Nemanja Vidic]

    I think:
    1. Vidic or Adam
    2. Bale. blecch.
