An unconvincing 1-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Wigan may well have taken Chelsea to a single point off second-placed Arsenal but Roman Abramovich must, nevertheless, be smarting this evening. That £50m January splurge on the talents of Fernando Torres yet again proved fruitless today, with the Spaniard unable to find the net in a 30 minute appearance at the Bridge.

El Nino’s form is alarming enough on its own but casting an ever-increasing shadow over the whole scenario is a man deemed surplus to requirement and shipped out to Bolton on loan as Chelsea chose to splash the cash: Daniel Sturridge.

In the first 24 gameweeks of the season, Sturridge managed a paltry 160 minutes on the pitch -the culmination of a handful of substitute appearances at the tail end of games- but Owen Coyle’s faith in the youngster’s abilities has been continually rewarded since the Reebok switch.

Today, West Ham were the latest team to suffer at the hands of Sturridge, as a brace in the 3-0 home win brought his tally to a fantastic six goals in eight games for Bolton. Bearing in mind that both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have scored just one league goal apiece over the same time span and it’s fair to say that it’s not just Torres who currently suffers by comparison.

Sturridge’s merits were not missed by FFScout this weekend, with both Mark and Big Dunc selecting him for Scout Picks and Spot the Differential respectively. This week‘s Fantasy Flutter on a Sturridge double also came up trumps, much to Mark’s delight, I’ve been informed.

The Trotters’ forthcoming FA Cup semi-final may mean he has no league game next week but being cup-tied allows Sturridge to rest up in anticipation for the following week’s double gameweek, where he’ll surely be drafted in by many a Fantasy Manager. Bolton’s matches from here on in read (blank, ARS & ful, bla, SUN, blp, MCY) and with a few dodgy defences still to take on, Sturridge has the form and fixtures to suggest he’ll continue to put those more illustrious names at his parent club in the shade between now and the end of the season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Well the boys lasted (a little) longer than the usual. All opes were extinguished in March instead of February. I suppose you cold call that a little progress?

Why oh why did you bring in Torres?! Made a terrible mistake in kicking out Nani, it's painful to watch now. Will bring him back in after Chelski's double.

Taken my eye off the ball a bit. Time to refocus.

Form can't be ignored. Factor in strength of schedule & those two are harsh lessons learned here.

It's tough knowing what to do with an injured player. hindsight is a beautiful thing indeed eh?

Not to sure what to do for next gameweek. Perhaps Nasri out for Walcott, that'd save me a few £. It's something of a sideways move though.

            Any ideas?

Had Leinster and Munster 1-12 pts double today, nice few bob earned. Huge value in Ulster v Northampton tomorrow at 2pm...unlikely theyll win, but the english patriotic punters have pushed the price out too far.

Ulster will be up for this,(despite the shite full back (Darcy)) but northampton had a minor scare last week v sale of all shite teams, until sale had a man sent off. Ladbrokes/william hill go 9/2 for ulster to win by 1-10 pts (alternative winning margin),bigger on betfair. Wouldnt be surprised if Ulster got well beat, but Northampton are eminently beatable.

Not seen it but the numbers aren't pretty. The last 4 gwk optas prior to the game had Lampard with the most shots on target. The fixtures are just too good to ignore.

I think you've left it late for Lamps now.

The easiest way is to downgrade Baines to someone like Phil Jones and then get Lamps for Nasri (you won't really be able to afford Lamps for Bale anymore since you'd need to generate £6m to afford him.

And I'm assuming the move I just suggested gives you enough for Lamps?

    Good morning Sunday !!

While waiting for miracle from captain RVP tonight, looking forward to GW33. I feel like I can go into next GW with "no transfer" bar injuries and bans.

    Foster*
    Luiz* - Smalling - Walker
    Nasri* - Lampard* - Nani - VDV - A.Young
    Drogba* - RVP*

Sub: Begovic , Welbeck , Huth , Kelly
    0.8 in bank

My priority could be VDV to Walcott/Arshavin and probably Smalling or Kelly to one of Bardsley / Carr / Wolves.

I'd leave VdV where he is, tbh. You have more urgent matters in defence to address.

Smalling's place may be under threat now Rio's back and Kelly's probably done for the season.

Sell one of those 2 for Carr.

I wouldn't be stockpiling Arsenal players either. Their run of easy fixtures ends after today and the dgw isn't exactly an easy one either. You'll likely be wanting to sell most, if not all, of their players shortly after their double.

I only have 2 to play today, spunked my (c) choice on Lamps so very fearful of Van P running riot. Took a 12 pt hit which hasn't gone too badly thus far (Coleman out Cashley in, Defoe out Hoilett in)

Just about out of patience with VdV. Modric seems a much better bet, and that move would allow me to replace Stockdale with Foster instead of Mignolet. Anyone else getting rid of the Dutchman?

NO i don't think it is:

      - as long as MAN U are in the CL, he remains a rotation risk

      - fixtures tighten and he dose not score so well in away games

      - Lampard has the better fixtures and an extra game between 32-34

          Off form?

The last 4 gwk stats prior to the weekend revealed no other midfielder had more shots on target than Lampard.

4m? Budget buys will only get you so far.

          Weight problems? Hmmm...

          Play the fixtures. 😉

Your first point seems to be a fair point if that's right, and i don't doubt that it isnt.
But I wouldnt really consider the likes of Nani, Nasri, Dempsey etc. 'budget buys'

I'm not disagreeing with you but i'd rather have two players circa £9Mil than one at £13Mil and another at £5Mil (budget Buy)

I'm not devaluing budget players; rather, here is a time when investment in a more expensive player is required. One look at the fixture list confirms that.

    Cech,
    Coleman, Smalling, Luiz
    Nani, Walcott, Adam, Lamps ,Young
    Bent, RVP

    Subs: Begovic, Odem, Simpson, Kolarov
    Bank 1.7
    1 free transfer

Do I need to do anything for gw33? I was hoping to keep 2 free transfers for gw34 to do:

Coleman to Huth & Odem to Zamora

but I'm not too sure of my defence this week. Any thoughts?

No - I'm not in favour of taking a hit here. Get him in this week as he gains bp and the odd assist/goal. Your team has pretty much covered the bases and has the luxury of leaving Odem on da bench.

My concern is the lack of defensive cover you have at present. Smalling is rotation risk, Kolarov has no game and Simpson doesn't offer much.
Problem with doing Huth is STK's fixtures which are none too flash.
Odem is on fire at present for Hodgson-why get rid?

Operation Don't Get Lampard is progressing well.

His performances have not justified the mass panic buying on this site. If there's one thing this season has told us is that form always trumps fixtures.

+1 Zod. Plus the other problem with Lamps is the fact you have to really re-adjust the rest of your team to fit him in (physically & financially) hence me sticking to my guns like yourself & staying well clear.
I'm hoping his 'overatedness' will assist me in advancing over the new few GWs

As things stand I could do Lamps to Modic and Odem to Tevez for the dwg36 which doesn't upset my team too much. I am regretting buying Lamps right now but am still hopeful for the next gw.

Glad to see I'm not alone in this viewpoint.

Hard to disagree with anything you've written there, although people who have bought him will try. If this was a year ago we'd be foolish to ignore him, but it's not.

I doubled up on their defence this GW, which is where the Chelsea points are, only for Terry to be rested for virtually the first time in his career. That sucked.

    Currently

    Foster* (Al Hasbi)
    R.Johnson* Luiz* Walker (Baird#, Huth#)
    Nasri* Lampard* Nani Adam (VdV)
    RvP Gyan Odemwingie

I am pondering my trades for the next two GWs.

    Does this sound reasonable?

    GW33
VdV->Malouda* (Although Tott have GW36 double)
or something like Biard/Huth out to a double gamer - I already have 2 Birmingham, so maybe an Arsenal or Chelsea defender.
    (or no trades at all)

    GW34 Al Hasbi->Schwarzer

away like to mull over some initial knee jerk ideas to give me some inspiration throughout the week

get them off my chest rather than let them stew and cause havoc.

does barton>malouda and coleman>elokobi sound like a bad move? I'd be only using elokbi as bench fodder other than 34

So, Torres in for the double game week? Insane or worth a punt.
The fact I'm also likely to bring in an Arsenal defender probably indicates I'm insane, but I'd still ike a second opinion.

I hope McLeish lets us know early this week if Zigic is out or in for the dgw.

Tempted to say screw him anyway but I want to get Zamora in for gw34 so no point shifting Zigic before then. VdV can go for Etherington then too.
