The more some things change, the more they stay the same.

Carlo Ancelotti binned midweek’s Christmas tree and rolled out his third different formation in the past seven days as Chelsea reverted back to 4-3-3 at the Hawthorns this afternoon. Revelling in the familiarity of their favoured system, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard were the leading lights for the champions as they came back from one down to comfortably end West Brom’s seven-match unbeaten run.

Our Captain’s Poll for gameweek 33 saw the pair placed fourth and first respectively and, up against a side who have kept one (yes, one) clean sheet this season, Drogba and Lampard subsequently hoovered up the points for their Fantasy Owners, with a goal and an assist for the Ivorian followed by a goal for Lamps as Chelsea cruised to a 3-1 win. Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points also came their way, with Drogba getting all 3 and Lampard awarded 2.

With the first game of their double gameweek proving fruitful for the pair, Fantasy Owners will be eagerly anticipating the upcoming midweek home game against Birmingham, where more of the same looks likely. Drogba has now grabbed three goals in his last four games in all competitions and with Chelsea just one point behind Arsenal, it would be brave of Ancelotti to bench him for the visit of Big Eck’s men as his team chase a second place finish. Drogba’s performance will delight the 63,000 managers who chose to draft him in ahead of this week’s double.

Florent Malouda -with an assist and 1 Bonus Point- and Salomon Kalou, with a goal, both vindicated their selection as Cheeky Punts in this week’s Scouting the Doubles article. Playing either side of Drogba in the front three, the pair were a threat to West Brom throughout, as this Average Position map shows. Kalou is (21), Malouda (15).

For Fernando Torres-watchers, the Spaniard viewed the proceedings from the bench for eighty-two minutes before Ancelotti allowed him some game time. To his credit, El Nino promptly put the ball in the net, but the effort was correctly ruled offside as his eight-minute cameo, once again, came to nothing.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    I'm going to get kolarov in a double gameweek, am i mad?

    next game is blackburn(a), they are in freefall with a psycho manager so they could get a cleanie and he looks better now and still going forward. after that, their chances of cleansheets look very good imo

    We were having a debate in dugout discussion during the games today on whether or not Baines is worth it. A few, specifically Tin of Directors, flatout said he was overpriced and not worth it.

    I completely disagree.

    I got him GW 29 and since then, his scores have been 4 + 4 (double GW), 8, 8, 6, 13.

    That's the best return I've gotten on a player during that period. Compare him to the mids and forwards in the same price bracket: Lennon, Downing, Dempsey, and he's streets ahead.

    4 goals, 11 assists. That's a tally a midfielder would be proud of. He's also been getting bonus lately, and as long as he stays on freekicks and corners (which looks likely) he'll still be a threat going forward despite Everton's weak looking fixtures. He could even have his PKs taken away and he'd still be worth it. It also helps that Everton are on good form, and past seasons have shown that Everton often finish very strongly. As far as I'm concerned, he's a keeper. It also sorts out one defense slot because you will play him every week so Simpson or a super cheap bench sitter is a good choice to fill up the numbers.

      yep Baines has done the job for me too Camzy.. For the moment im think of keeping both Coleman and Baines(might get rid of Coleman for Kolarov gw 35 tho). Read somewhere he is only 2nd defender across Europe on assists after Dani Alves for the last 2 years!! Considering the pts he got this year, his price is still very good(he is the 5th overall player in terms of pts).. He will definitely be the most expensive defender in the game next year and probably little more than Cole, Vidic and Terry

    Ok, best double gw players for gw 34:

    Defenders? Hangeland, Huth
    Midfielders? Dempsey, O'Hara/Jarvis, Walters
    Strikers? Zamora, Sturridge

    Anybody else spring to mind? What do people think are the relatove merits of those mentioned above?

      All good choices Jimski,
      I'd say Zamora and Sturridge are the best picks out of them...

        I was put off Etherington as I had him earlier this season and he got me 2,2,2, but then again he may be in better form now!

      Etherington is a big one that's missing. He's on pens, and despite Walters' good form, Ethers is the Stoke lynchpin, and now that he's fit, he'll play both games for sure and probably get some attacking returns.

    Have Drogba, Van Persie and DJ Campbell upfront.
    Already have Dempsey for the double.
    Thoughts on Drogba->Sturridge
    Campbell->Zamora
    4 point hit, good call or stupid?!

      wolves.

      Also, stoke have blackpool in gw35, and could be swapped to man city / spurs after that

    Sensible for next GW (with Huth & Baird gives me 5 DGWs)?
    (or only do 2 and avoid the hit)

    R.Johnson->Etherington
    Nasri->Dempsey
    Gyan->Sturridge

    (4pt hit)

      Can't do Johnson > Ethers.

      The other two are good, but Gyan has really good fixtures til the end of the season, so abandoning him might be a mistake.

      I'd get Etherington over Dempsey. He's more focal to Stoke attack, and Dempsey's potential as a forward is lost because of Zamora.

        D'oh - stupid mistake. Got my lines mixed up. (And was half thinking Hangeland, but since I have Baird probably not worth doubling up). I don't really want to transfer any of th eother midfielders out since VdV has a double coming up anyway.

        Yeah - might not take the hit and just do
        Nasri->Etherington
        Gyan->Sturridge.

        (I can get Gyan back the next GW)

        Thanks for the assistance.

          Would R.Johnson->Baines be worth a 4 point hit if added to the previous two trades?

          Am I thie only person who has no interest in next weeks dwg? Ok, I have Bego but really can't see it worth getting anyone else in when gw36 is just round the corner.

    What I can't figure out is if my plans stay as they are, next week I'll have a front 8 of:

    vdv, fabregas, o'hara, adam, dempsey
    rvp, bent, zamora/sturridge

    WHo on earth would I bench? Bent has an excellent fixture, as does vdv. And Adam's is quite good. And rvp is rvp. Could I really bench fabregas?

      I've the same problem and will probably bench Adam on yesterday's B'pool performance. Of course, there's a lot of water under the bridge until next saturday...

        I put VdV on the bench this GW because I didn't want to have ODemwingie on the bench for a 4th time in a row. Next GW will be a tough decision too. And who to captain too.

      I was thinking the same thing. I try and wait 'til the last minute. Is that philosophy misguided and it is better to go early when there are DGWs in the knowledge that a lot of people are going to be jumping on the same players?

      What were you thinking putting Odemwingie last on your bench?
      (Good round for you anyway!)
