Since returning to a 4-3-3 formation three gameweeks ago, the goals had been flowing for Chelsea. The last trio of fixtures had brought three goals in each game for the defending champions, with the first-choice frontline of Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou bagging six goals between them. The points came thick and fast for Fantasy owners as Carlo Ancelotti‘s side revisited their early-season Fantasy Premier League (FPL) hauls all over again.

Regardless of this recent consistency and re-found form up front, all it took was a Fernando Torres goal at a rain-soaked Stamford Bridge last weekend to change Ancelotti’s thinking. The Chelsea boss clearly reckoned the Spaniard would be brimming with confidence after finally breaking his scoring duck for the Blues, and resultantly chose to re-organise his side for this evening’s visit of Tottenham, with Torres through the middle and Drogba stationed to his right.

Before today, Drogba and Torres had started two league matches together, and both had failed to score; their relationship is clearly a work in progress. After today’s game-to no-one’s real surprise- that tally has risen three.

It was only when Torres was hauled off after the hour mark that Chelsea’s fluency returned. As indication of this increased threat was the home side’s shooting stats: 11 shots in 63 minutes with Torres on the pitch, 9 shots in 27 minutes without him, practically double.

With Drogba re-installed through the middle, the hosts looked far more comfortable and it was no real surprise to see a winner arrive late on. Even more damning for Torres, it was Kalou- his replacement- who notched the winner to move his side to just three points behind Man United.

Granted, both Chelsea’s goals came with more than a slice of good fortune; Frank Lampard’s leveller was a combination of dodgy goalkeeping and a debatable linesman’s decision, and Kalou looked offside as he slotted him the winner from a Drogba pass. Nevertheless, there’s every chance that if Ancelotti had stuck to his recent starting XI, this match would not be remembered as what it ultimately was; nothing more than a somewhat fortuitous victory. With a trip to Old Trafford next gameweek, Carlo can’t rely on luck to bail him out again.

O'Hara, Silva, Balotelli (c), RVP, Roonpig, Foster, Roger Johnson to come tomorrow.....

    Considering some really risque transfers.

    Nani > Fabregas
    Baines > Kolarov

Arsenal could be the season ending differential.

Their season ending fixtures are really nice, because they play teams that are safe from the drop with little to play for. If they get a draw or at least come out of the ManUtd game with credit, I might do it. Fabregas has scored 4+ points in the last 5, and if Arsenal start winning again, he could be in the points, and at this stage, I doubt many people have the funds to consider yet alone afford him.

Baines has penalties to thank, and Kolarov has a great defense on his side.

Fixtures are also stacked in favor of City. Everton have nasty fixtures, and unless they get penalties (which Baines mightn't even take since Arteta's back now) he probably won't get double figures again this season.

Arsenal play well away, and now without the pressure of having to win, they should be able to win.

Consider the motivations of the teams. Stoke have nothing to play for since they're safe from the drop. They have an FA cup final coming up so how likely will they be to go all out every game, especially now they've seen Etherington go and get himself injured.

Fulham is a few weeks away, and by then, I fully expect them to have eased off considering they've fought so hard lately for their wins.

Drama it was. When they scored their second (massive fluke btw, think Ronaldinho vs Seaman) Southport were drawing, so we were back in the relegation zone as it stood.

Thought we were goners and then news filtered through the stadium that Kettering had taken the lead in the 88th minute against Southport, cue mass celebration from all sides of the stadium.

Both sets of fans on the pitch and the end. Scenes.

Definitely not Blue Teets. His shot is a standard inside of his foot shot that just sails down under the bar. Look it up on YouTube.

A trivela shot is with the outside of the foot.

                    loooooooooooool

The fans absolutely love him though! For no other reason than he tries really hard most of the time. Agreed though, he was pathetic today, I genuinely don't think that he did a single thing right in the first half. Thankfully he was hauled off at half-time.

To be fair though, the pitch was appalling. Completely uneven and rock hard in places, so that didn't help, showed up his lack of ability though. He's not usual *that* bad, scored a fair few goals this season.

The game was awful. Two dreadful sides battling it out!

yeah, other than graham alexander i don't recall a defender being on pens in the past. and the fact that baines plays for a half decent defence and is the second highest assisting defender in europe and that's potentially dangerous. surely other teams will be looking at snatching him away this summer?

You can complain about the decisions themselves, and rightfully so - at least from the sounds of things - but you can't compare it to the decisions that United get, and use these cases today to fully counter the notion that United get a lot of wrong decisions in their favour.

Do Chelsea get more incorrect decisions in their favour than against them? Yes

Do United get more incorrect decisions in their favour than Chelsea, or any other club in this country for that matter? Yes, unquestionably.

And by the way sticking with two Chelsea defenders isn't working out too well for me ðŸ™

They hadn't had a single one up until a few weeks ago. Then, with Arteta and Saha both injured, they suddenly started getting them. Baines owners have been obscenely lucky.

Is Zamora not due at least one of the assists he doesn't seem to be getting from the last 2 gw's???

I know he has one but after he didn't start either of Fulhams double last week I think he's due some charity from the FPL!!!!

Go on..... Just one more assist.... You bastards....

snooker crazy is surely an oxymoron? 2 men in a silent room playing a static sport where they take it in turns, whilst the other sits down in silence.

      i'm bored ðŸ™
