Since returning to a 4-3-3 formation three gameweeks ago, the goals had been flowing for Chelsea. The last trio of fixtures had brought three goals in each game for the defending champions, with the first-choice frontline of Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou bagging six goals between them. The points came thick and fast for Fantasy owners as Carlo Ancelotti‘s side revisited their early-season Fantasy Premier League (FPL) hauls all over again.

Regardless of this recent consistency and re-found form up front, all it took was a Fernando Torres goal at a rain-soaked Stamford Bridge last weekend to change Ancelotti’s thinking. The Chelsea boss clearly reckoned the Spaniard would be brimming with confidence after finally breaking his scoring duck for the Blues, and resultantly chose to re-organise his side for this evening’s visit of Tottenham, with Torres through the middle and Drogba stationed to his right.

Before today, Drogba and Torres had started two league matches together, and both had failed to score; their relationship is clearly a work in progress. After today’s game-to no-one’s real surprise- that tally has risen three.

It was only when Torres was hauled off after the hour mark that Chelsea’s fluency returned. As indication of this increased threat was the home side’s shooting stats: 11 shots in 63 minutes with Torres on the pitch, 9 shots in 27 minutes without him, practically double.

With Drogba re-installed through the middle, the hosts looked far more comfortable and it was no real surprise to see a winner arrive late on. Even more damning for Torres, it was Kalou- his replacement- who notched the winner to move his side to just three points behind Man United.

Granted, both Chelsea’s goals came with more than a slice of good fortune; Frank Lampard’s leveller was a combination of dodgy goalkeeping and a debatable linesman’s decision, and Kalou looked offside as he slotted him the winner from a Drogba pass. Nevertheless, there’s every chance that if Ancelotti had stuck to his recent starting XI, this match would not be remembered as what it ultimately was; nothing more than a somewhat fortuitous victory. With a trip to Old Trafford next gameweek, Carlo can’t rely on luck to bail him out again.

I don't think Fergie can take any chances with his line-up. Can see Little Pea and Rooney getting the nod up front. Berbs in the squad is a red herring for me - he might get a runout v Schalke on Wednesday..

I like to call that the 'The Matrix', aka 'the Amoeba'. Throw Park in there and let him hawk Cesc, along with Fletcher, forcing everything narrow. I don't think there will be goals. United won't have the players to get the sets to exploit Warren Barton's favorite topic. And Arsenal definitely won't give them the time to pick out passes from the back the way Schalke did. Berbs will come on if they haven't scored by the 72nd.

Hasn't Routledge got some sort many clubs/never scoring in the Premier League record?

Probably not a record I guess (got to be some journeymen defenders), but pretty awful all the same for an 'attacking' midfielder.

Cheers, I ask as I remember asking about other Blackpool players apart from Adam and getting responses like "don't bother, they'll do a Derby etc" when u dont really no how certain players will do, some players can raise their game along with the standard of football. I realise over the season Adam was the only one really worth considering but some people were dismissive of their other players but some others have had their moments too.

All I remember about Blackpool was...

            A) Sticking up for them and pointing out people (more than one person!) were frankly mental in pre-season saying they would concede by double digits to ALL top four clubs.

            B) When mine and Mark's prediction of DJ Campbell reaching 10 goals in the Premier League was equally lambasted by some folks.

Pulling fast is the only way to go! I caught a trout two years back and it looked at me and said what the feck you doing and that is when I realised fish feel pain as I had been told cold blooded animals dont feel pain but of course they do. Unhooked the trout said sorry mate away he swam and him looking at me saying what the feck you doing has stayed with me and I gave up fishing, I fecking loved fishing too but its not nice really - plus all those fish dying on boats through suffocation where is their rights eh. Oh well its a mad World. Ciao Goodfish! Gonna get high gonna get high gonna get high!

Skippy will find him in time for the match, don't worry. He'll then go on to score a hat trick, rub some horse placenta on Tevez's leg to prepare him for the double gameweek and some other remarkable feat that I can't even think of.

Here's a dude with a BIG latency in him. He's on a double gameweek, the first fixture of which is a possible points bonanza. Blackpool have obligingly managed to concede 3,5,4,2 & 3 goals in their last 5 away games respectively.

              Luis Jimenez.

First game: Stoke at home, 2-0 win. 3 points
Second game: Blackburn away, 0-0 draw. 4 points, 1 BP
Third game: Tottenham at home, 1-2 defeat, 1 assist, 1 yellow.*

3, 4, 4, then he got dropped/injured. Not terrible returns, and certainly not as bad as people made out.

Players like him are always the first to be sacrificed in the bottom half of the Premiership tbh. Even at a decent side like Bolton CY Lee is always cut first.

It's a type of player not appreciated in struggling sides I suppose.

Okay, the first game was actually against Wolves, and the Blackburn game came after the Spurs one.

Jimenez was one of my favourite punts ever, hence I remember it reasonably well. I also remember extensively scouting him during the West Ham pre-seaosn friendlies (a couple were on TV in some competition along with Spurs). He looked like he could be fantasy gold dust, taking all set pieces, playing just of Carlton Cole and playing pretty well on the whole. Didn't properly work out though....

I also forked out the 6.5 and even decided to captain him once, luckily for me it was the gameweek Ronaldo was sent off for a lame headbutt at Pompey.

People always remember the ones that fail because it's easier and more fun to do that and point a finger rather than pat someone on the back.

I've pushed Boselli and Lucas at start of season's but I've also had Carroll and Hitzlsperger at the start of their terms.

I know if Reed Rothchild is about he'd certainly only mention the first two to me... The fun is taking those risks!

You can run. Sh*t the bed embarrassed himself earlier by claiming Lampard's goal was over the line, agree? How many rubles does a refs assistant cost these days i wonder. 2 goals, 2 awful calls. Absolutely shocking.

No, I don't agree, and I'm guessing that he doesn't either.

What about the clear penalty and a red card for Kaboul that we were denied. Sure we had two dodgy goals, but a penalty and a red card is probably worth two goals anyway. So it was even!!! 😀

Classic Martin Atkinson, being an absolute hero.

Was that the game that United lost 1-0? If so, typical of them resorting to filthy cheating to try to win penalties when losing. Disgraceful.

After today at least you can't harp on about decisions going United's way all the time JP? For all the giving out you do, us "lucky" United fans can surely kick up a bit of a fuss about the linesman effectively wining the game for them today, you could tell by the celebrations afterwards, they knew they had got out of jail, at least it makes next Sunday potentially explosive stuff, lets hope it's a day we are gifted the match! 😉

          Not sure about this.

The argument has never been that United get every decision in their favour, merely that they get a higher proportion than any other club in the country. Chelsea getting a couple of bad decisions in their favour today doesn't mean that argument is wrong.

You have every right to be annoyed with the decisions, and I have no problem with you guys moaning about them on here (hell, I do it the whole bloody time!) but it definitely mean that I, along with others, can't make the point that United get the most decisions, because I still think they do.

When do they close the markets on the Paddy Power specials that we get here? They had 12/1 on Kolarov scoring from outside the box, and the best odds on Kolarov anytime I can find are 4/1. Only a one in three chance that a Kolarov goal will come from outside of the box? I think not.

Hello. Just back from a week in the Lake District.
Very nice place. Great for the kids. Slowly went crazy with very little internet access (just a borrowed i phone a couple of times)
So, I've some questions, if someone could be so kind to do a quick
    Y/N?

    (1) I got Bobby Z (c) and Ethers last week for a 4 point hit. ouch. Zamora assist? Y/N.
    (2) I missed all the CL action. Was Mourinho correct about all that? Y/N.
    (3) Is right now just about the only time in the season when 4 or 8 point hits are justifiable? Y/N.
    (4) I've captained Balotelli. Genius ? Y/N.

    Thanks....so good to be back!

      1. You talking about the 'assist' in the game against Wolves? If so, no. Not sure about the one today, wasn't really concentrating during MOTD.

      2. ish.... Pepe shouldn't have been sent off IMO, and you can't argue that Barca have had a lot of incorrect decisions in their favour over the past few years. His complaints were massively over the top though. Classic Mourinho.

      3. Point hits can always be justifiable.

        1. No definitlely not an assist and i had him (c) and Ethers too for a 4 point hit!!

        2. mourinho as always hates losing, and is deflecting attention away from the fact that with Benzema, Kaka, Ronaldo, Higuain, Alonso, they played sooooo defensively, that it was embarrasing.
Agreed Barca have had some lucky decisions, but if Id been the ref id have sent Pepe off too as in real time it looked worse

Time for an RBJ sized rant I reckon:

So I go into this week feeling fairly confident. The day starts okay with an Odemiwnge goal which I was fairly content with, but why when I had players from both teams did it finish 0-0 at Bloomfield Road, the first time either the home or away kept a clean sheet there all season!!

But then Baines, the motherf*cker gets so f*cking jammy for there to be a second penalty when Arteta had been subbed!! Not only that but he's had 3 goddamn penalties in 4 weeks when Everton haven't had one before all season!!! You can't make this sh*t up!!! All rivals and lots of teams around me I guess have him.

But I could take that. It gets worse. This week I did Drogba -> Odem and Walcott-> Kuyt for a 4pt hit. So I'm sitting on a hit with Odem's 6 and Drogs to play. For him to then go and get not 1, but 2 phantom assists for goals that should have never have been given in any way shape of form is just an utter utter p*sstake.

Then in come the BPs. BAINES 3????!!!! YOU HAVE TO BE F*CKIING KIDDING ME!!! Drogba 2 was expected but didn't stop it hurting any less. That leaves me on -7 so far on my transfers when really I should be on level points with Kuyt(c) to go!!

To make matters worse f*cking own goal f*cking Meite goes and gets f*cking BPs ahead of Odem, utter f*cking disgrace 😡 And Bonus Points Adam and VDV gwet nothing either!!!

Oh and did I mention I had Begovic on the bench, the first side not to concede there all season????

UTTER F*CKING JOKE THIS GAME CAN PISS OFF TODAY. 19 (-4) from 5 players!!!!!

My overall ranking has doubled but it's just an utter f*cking joke. 😡

I genuinely feel your pain as you obviously care about the game and seem to be getting a lot of ill luck. The luck will even itself out though, I can assure you!

Tomorrow will be a better day for you particularlyy when those Kuyt goals go in. I'm dreading tomorrow as I captained Lampard. 33 with 5 to go.

I left Baines out too and remember those that have him are relying heavily on those pens and bps as EVR don't keep many cs. You are still much better off investing your money in a better midfield that will score more pts.

It's a frustrating game I know but you will soon turn it round!

I hope it does. I can't remember the last time I had a good saturday but Sundays and midweeks have been nice to me recently, so that's what I'm banking on.

I am now praying Kuyt does go mad, because if he doesn't I may well be kissing my top 1000 goodbye. I swear to god if Suarez goes mad instead I may just break the internet... And the fact Lampard has got so many people so many points from that is just unf*cking believable! Chelsea are just throughly dislikable and it was bad enough them winning that way let alone the fantasy conotations.

And those people with Baines will be able to keep relying on them becauser it's just getting beyond a joke now. I'm furious about how he's scored recently, and it's not even deserved. If he was scoring in open play and genuinley performing better than anyone else I'd accept it, but he's not and he's just giving my rivals and other people ranked around me ridiculous numbers of points... And I know if I ever got him it he'd stop.

The luck better turn around because I chose perfectly well this week I reckon and fate has just decided to royally f*ck me over!

Can't believe it. I don't want to sign him on the basis that there is no actual underlying quality for him to keep scoring its just pure luck and has absolutely no basis to continue on, and will no doubt stop the moment I sign him.

I just found out I was leading a league with a 1st prize of an iPad. Only 4 teams can win now. I dropped to 2nd overnight & 2 rivals below me captained Kuyt. I knew they got him but still went Suarez. The higher you are ranked, the greater the pressure. It was better when I didn't know. 😕

If kuyt scores more than Suarez, I think I will be dead in the league. One team is alot better placed for GW36 than me. Wish I sold Dempsey for Kuyt now bigtime. I'll need more than luck. Odemwingie was a differential so not happy with no bonus points. Even one FPL point makes a massive difference now.
