The Championship play-off final; the richest club game in the world and the last chance for Fantasy managers to weigh up the promoted clubs for potential diamonds, with the top-flight performances of Blackpool’s Charlie Adam -finishing second-top scorer in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2010/11- setting the standard to follow. With a hat-trick in Swansea’s 4-2 win over Reading, Scott Sinclair guaranteed his club a £90m windfall and announced himself on our Fantasy radars for the upcoming Premier League campaign as a definite “one to watchâ€.

Snapped up by Brendan Rodgers last summer, the past season has seen the twenty-two year old winger establish himself in a starting XI for the first time in his career and Swansea have reaped the benefits, with Rodgers’ expansive passing game affording Sinclair the stage to flourish. Having spent time under Rodgers at both youth and reserve level while at Stamford Bridge, Sinclair acknowledged his manager’s part in his successful campaign:

“Leaving Chelsea was the best decision I ever made as I’m finally playing every weekend, showing everyone what I can do. Last summer, I could have gone on loan again but I’d had enough of that…I had the chance to sign for another Premier League club but decided it was best to join a manager who knows me and gave me confidence. Brendan Rodgers was the main reason I signed for Swansea as we knew each other when he was reserve-team manager at Chelsea.”

The Statistics

Sinclair was something of a prodigious talent, joining Bristol Rovers at the age of nine before making his debut aged fifteen. After just 2 appearances for the club, he was snapped up by Chelsea in 2005 but spent the next few seasons being farmed out on loan by a variety of Blues bosses.

His nomadic existence spanned to loan spells at six different clubs, including a stint at Wigan a couple of seasons back, but Sinclair failed to settle wherever he ended up and made a total 65 appearances on loan, scoring just 6 goals. Back he went to Chelsea last summer but this time the club decided to cash in on his services and Sinclair left without ever being given a chance at Stamford Bridge; he played just 5 games, failing to score a single goal.

Swansea paid an initial £500K to land the winger, in a three-year deal which may rise to £1m, dependant on the player’s performances. With 22 goals and 3 assists last term, however, Sinclair has already made something of a mockery of the price tag.

The Prospects

Swansea’s attacking game under Rodgers proves more fruitful at home, with 41 of their 69 goals coming at the Liberty Stadium last term, just under 2 goals per home game. The system clearly suits Sinclair’s pace and trickery out wide; he was the club’s top-scorer in the Championship and, with penalty-kick duties in the bag, will be high on Fantasy radars as potential bargain material.

Up against superior defences this time round it will be interesting to see how Sinclair copes, though after the win over Reading, Rodgers- mirroring the ethos of Ian Holloway upon Blackpool’s promotion the previous season- promised to forge ahead with the style of football that has drawn the Swans plenty plaudits:

“We’re going to places like Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge so it will be tough, but we’ll try to maintain the way we play. We said before this game we must maintain the identity of the team under pressure, with millions watching. You’ve seen a clear demonstration of how we play today.”

Blackpool‘s approach, while ultimately culminating in relegation on the final day of the season, saw Holloway’s men score 55 goals, the same number as fifth-placed Spurs and while their defenders were a Fantasy no-no, the Seasiders’ goal scoring feats meant the likes of DJ Campbell joined Adam as a viable FPL option.

Sinclair is a guaranteed starter for Swansea; there won’t be any threat of rotation hanging over his head, though fatigue saw him rested by Rodgers for a couple of games towards end of last season. He should be priced around the 5.0 to 5.5 bracket and will no doubt be the subject of plenty interest come the start of the campaign, more so if this Friday’s Premier League 2011/12 presents a kind beginning for the Welsh side.

    U21 chat.

Just looking ahead to semis with the assumption of SPN, ENG, SWZ and DEN going through. I have 9/12 players from these teams. Despite a 5 mill add on to the budget at the s/f stage, the 6 free transfers we get are a bit redundant. Well for me anyway as I've played my w/c.

Most of the players from these teams are too expensive so that's really going to limit the no of quality players you can bring in. 😕

I've made the same assumption as you Jafa and have 11 out of my 15 from those teams. Trouble is the remaining 4 only have a total value of 18.5m so I'm only likely to afford players unlikely to play!

Yeah agreed, Catmac. You have to park 3-4 ubercheap 4 million players on the bench and go with one gk.

Mind you, CZH aren't out of it yet if ENG don't wake up!

Nobby definitely gone then, mixed feelings about it but overall I think it was the right move to let him go.

Just noticed Woodgate is out on a free, would love him back at Newcastle on a pay-as-you-play deal. One of the best English defenders I have ever seen, real shame he was so ruined by injuries.

I can't work out what Villa would see in Alex McCleish relegated twice out of the Premier League and doesn't sit well with fans as he come from a rival club. I can only think his got that job for winning the Worthless Cup.

Oh rest assured the Villa fans hate it. They are going absolutely mad. I know a few who weren't renewing their season tickets before this all happened, and a few more since. The Blues fans at work are really enjoying themselves at the moment, which is a bit strange considering the predicament they are in.

Not if you keep selling your best players and not replacing them.

Carroll and Nolan scored nearly half your league goals last season, and Enrique's probably on his way too. Pissing off Barton wasn't too clever either.

It could be a case of needing 3 teams to be worse than you, rather than being good enough to hold on to a place.

That's probably the best way to go about it. Ba would be a good signing if he stays fit.

Where do you think Enrique's going (if anywhere)? I was sure he'd go to Liverpool, but they seem to be more interested in Arsenal's one-man onside trap, Gael Clichy. Who they are more than welcome to.

Well if Clichy moves maybe Arsenal? Dunno, he's a very good player and I'm sure a few clubs will be in for him. He should be around the £8-10m mark (hopefully more), if he wants to get to be Spain's LB he should go back there, anyway he will definitely leave this summer though unfortunately.

Newcastle to go down for me too. Pardew is the main reason I say this, he's terrible. But all the players that are flooding out doesn't help, Nolan and Caroll gone, Barton, Enrique and Guitierrez likely to follow. Bar Ba and Tiote that team looks distinctly Championship.

Cabaye is unproven in the PL so it would be optimistic to say he's going to be a good enough replacement. I would be surprised to see those 3 stay, and even if they do, Pardew is such a poor manager that he'll guide them to relegation.

With most managers I'd be less pessimistic, but as any supporter of one of his previous teams will tell you, he will drag you down sooner or later.

In fairness to him, he did a decent job after Hughton was wrongly let go. Many expected Newcastle to struggle but I don't think any Toon fans can complain with how he did.

However his record at previous clubs isn't great and it'll be interesting to see how he does next season, especially if Barton and/or Enrique follow Nolan out the door.

Well to be honest I was gutted when he took over the role from the unfairly sacked Hughton. However I think he did very well despite all the acrimony at the start of his tenure.
Team talks like he must have given in the Arsenal (complimented by Nolan) 4-4 are a promising sign.
As for the ex-skipper, Kevin Nolan is 29 years old, he demanded a 5 year contract, meaning we would have a 34 year old on £55-65k per week. It was good business sense to let him go. Yes Cabaye is unproven in England, but he is extremely highly rated in France so I look at that move optimistically.
As Soup pointed out Djemba Ba + £35m is a great deal for Andy Carroll so happy with that.
We'll see who goes and who stays, Jose Enrique WANTS to leave so we can't worry about him going, young Shane Ferguson is an exciting if raw prospect and he'll sign cover as well.
I'm optimistic about the forthcoming season, I wont be in August IF we let Enrique, Barton, Jonas leave without signing decent cover. But a team with Ba, Tiote, Coloccini, Steve Taylor and three good goalies to choose from is a damned sight better than Norwich, QPR, or Swansea. I'd be suprised if ALL of Barton, Enrique and Jonas leave.
There is a chance more players like N'Zogbia (wants to join apparently), Barnetta, Gardner, etc etc etc will continue to be linked. Who we actually end up with remains to be seen but I like the players linked so far, it shows ambition and a shrewd policy of signing younger hungry players rather than spunking out a load on a marquee signing like Michael Owen.
          Glass definitely half full.

you spend that Carroll money and you should be fine. You have a strong spine. Im a big fan of Taylor and i think Ben Arfa will be quality.

Newcastle without Carroll, Nolan, Barton, Enrique... I'm not sure where they would have finished this year. This is insanely depressing. I like that others can keep the faith, but I'm pretty upset. Everytime you get attached to someone in this club, they're gone.

Seems I have a problem with my u21 fantasy team.
I'm off on holiday tomorrow to the back end of nowhere and my only internet will be my wife's smartphone.

She's understanding to my addiction, so getting use of said phone isn't my problem, but operating the game on it is. How the hell do you make a substitution on a touch screen phone?
Click on a spot and it centres and zooms, hold down and it thinks I want to copy the image of my useless Icelandic striker. I can't seem to drag and drop like I'm used to.

    Help me....

RANDOM POST before I had to bed.

Was looing at a Russian history book today when I came across a picture of Tzar Nicholas II. I couldn't and can't get over the uncanny resemblance between him and Medvedev. Typed it up and I'm not the ony one. Found this one the most interesting http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread653765/pg1

My understanding is they are then 15/1 to win the league versus all the other (20, I assume) handicaps.

So they'll have to beat the Arsenal+6 and Chelsea+5 (or whatever) handicaps.

...I think. Could be way off base.

Don't be daft. Do you like Chinese food? Mexican food? You can enjoy it just as much even if you're not Chinese or Mexican.

Apart from anything else Seinfeld was so influential many things after it have made references to it. The whole show is really about the relationships between the main cast. They interact with the world and debate the minutia into absurdity.

By series 5/6 it is a polished masterpiece but even the early shows like 'The Chinese Restaurant' are classic episodes too. It's about visiting a Chinese Restaurant, simple concept but things don't go as planned.
