A brilliant Manchester derby in this afternoon’s Community Shield has set the tone for the upcoming season. Roberto Mancini’s side raced ahead in the first forty-five, heading into the interval two-up thanks to a Joleon Lescott header and a speculative long distance strike from Edin Dzeko that seemed to swerve as it flew past David De Gea. At the interval, City, with such a rock-solid defence, looked nailed-on to pick up the silverware, despite their opponent’s dominance in possession.

After the break, the “noisy neighbours” were soon silenced. Goals from Chris Smalling and Nani -following a brilliant passing team move- levelled matters just short of the hour mark as United’s attacking football proved relentless. With only seconds remaining, Nani sped away from the halfway line and capped a wonderful comeback by rounding Joe Hart to coolly slot home the winner.

In Fantasy terms, the game will no doubt spark a Nani bandwagon. The summer purchase of Ashley Young places question mark over the Portuguese winger’s game time in 2011/12 but there seems little doubt that Nani- last season’s top-scoring FPL- player- looks good for a place in United’s starting XI at West Brom next Sunday.

On the left, Ashley Young also looked the part and it’s worth noting he took his fair share of set-pieces; it was his delivery that led to Smalling grabbing United’s first. Young -like Nani- is priced at 10.0 but with Antonio Valencia not yet match fit, is likely to take his good form to the Hawthorns in gameweek 1.

Despite Javier Hernandez being sidelined with concussion, Sir Alex Ferguson opted for Danny Welbeck as a strike partner for Wayne Rooney up front. His performances in tandem with the Mexican have shown Rooney thrives more with a pacy forward ahead of him, and Dimitar Berbatov was resultantly relegated to the bench. If Fergie continues along this line of thinking, the Bulgarian could well be a peripheral figure in 2011/12.

Chris Smalling started the game at right-back, suggesting he may offer cover in positions other than centre-half next season. Phil Jones was also played at right-back in United’s pre-season win over MLS Allstars, suggesting the likes of Rafael will have plenty competition for starts on the flank in 2011/12.

For City, Joleon Lescott carried on the goalscoring form that saw him score two games in his club’s final three league games last season. At 6.5, he’s 0.5 more than Vincent Kompany but his eye for goal may tempt Fantasy managers, particularly with Kolo Toure still serving a suspension.

Given their record of 18 clean sheets last term, City were surprisingly slack in the second half . Gael Clichy, on as a sub for Aleksander Kolarov, hardly covered himself in glory with an indecisiveness on the halfway line that led to United’s winner.

David Silva was the liveliest of City’s attacking players, always buzzing around and looking to pick up possession. Silva’s set-piece led to City’s opener and with a home game against Swansea the final match of game week 1, the Spaniard – priced at 9.5 in FPL- will surely see plenty Fantasy investment.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the availability of Carlos Tevez and with Sergio Aguero sitting out the match due to blistered feet, Fantasy managers were hoping for an impressive performance from the other City forwards on show. Mario Balotelli was never really in the game and priced at 9.0, would be a huge punt ahead of the game against Brendan Rodgers promoted side.

Edin Dzeko, playing as the lone forward, may have found the net but the goal was perhaps more of an error by David De Gea than a piece of clinical finishing. Dzeko, at 8.5, could see plenty investment if Roberto Mancini is unable to call upon the services of either Tevez or Aguero ahead of the game a week on Monday.

A stat more indicative of the nature of this game is each side’s total shots- United had 21 to City’s 8, a fairer reflection of the state of play, rather than the 3-2 scoreline.

Alex is a huge risk. I wouldn't do it. I can see AVB playing Cole, Terry, Ivanovic, Bosingwa for the opening game.

Elsewhere though, your team is really good. Anything I suggest is an alternative.

That said, I wouldn't risk Moses and Johnson.

He won't play from the start. He's not fit and hasn't trained.

But when he finally does get back in the team, Chelsea's starting XI will almost certainly be Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole.

      Don't touch Torres.

Other than that, your team is excellent. Nani would be nice, but to be honest, Malouda and Silva are the choice midfield heavyweights with fixtures on their side, so you'd have to tear your team up a bit too much to get him in imo.

I can see a Silva > Nani swap fairy early on though, so just leave yourself open to that.

What a sweet game, really enjoyed that comeback. Nani really looked the part today, slightly concerned as to Rooney's influence when it came to assit/shot potential, he had little to do in respect of goal threat, but that free kick was very close in the first half, perhaps still worthy with his penalty potential.

Is it worth having Rooney and Nani or Young though? I don't think so, too much money.

I prefer Figueroa to Alcaraz but that's hardly a criticism. I think you've done well given you've squeezed in both Rooney and Van Persie.

I think A Cole is pricey, but if Chelsea line up in a diamond formation then he'll be asked to provide a lot of width so could be worth it. Certainly was last year! If not, downgrade to Alex/Luiz, whoever gets the starting position, or even Ivanovic who should be nailed on and is also a goal threat.

Midfield is weak, and it's a problem.

Downing leaves no wiggle room, so if Nani, Malouda or VdV suddenly explode, you're going to really struggle.

Bit of a lottery pens, but with United having Nani, Valencia, Young and Hernandez, I'm tempted to go with Rooney as he could get one almost every week!

Players on set pieces with the weaker sides are just as is important, if not more so.

-cheap GK combo, good rotation, not a combo everyone has-CHECK
-leighton baines who will be value at 8.0 expecially as is ownership stays relatively low-CHECK
-3 rotating cheap defenders that are nailed on and rotate perfectly for the 3rd spot till gw13-CHECK
-a rep from chelsea, united, city, pool, and villa in the attack-CHECK
-3 cheap attacking options that have potential to be this years adam or carroll-CHECK

Baines is key my droogs, baines is key. Better Leighton Ever.

Now then, someone throw out a club i should start a season with on FIFA11, i need off the internets. cool down with a video game.

why do you need 3 defenders that have to rotate until week 13? you can make transfers every week, you know.

transfers are valuable, they are best spent on attacking players who have found form, defenders rely on the CS more, if you can plan out 3 cheap defenders that have a good fixture in rotation, thats one less thing to worry about, im not going to waste transfers brining in and out the least scoring spot of my team.

teams find form as well though. you'll never be able to keep 3 defenders for 13 weeks. give it 5 weeks max when planning that type of thing, surely?

the better teams will though. Im not expecting teams with 4.0 defenders to go on a CS steak. Im never going to start more than 3 defenders, just my philosophy. I think in fantasy its better to use transfers on indivduals in form who score with attack than on defenders who have to rely on an entire teams form to get a CS.

everyweek GW there are a minimum of 3 moves i could say would improve my team, i only get one free choice, that choice will never be a defender that isnt baines or kompany starting every week.

Just looked back at last years comments, and last seasons winner made an average of 11 RMT's a day during pre-season. True story.

There is no secret, what are you on about?

The players that do well watch the game and study it intently; catching news about first teamers picking up knocks and opening up opportunities for cheaper players. They have an idea of which teams struggle at the back or are not in form, and bring in the players that are the mainstay of sides about to play said teams...

On top of this effort, the top rated players get a slice of luck as there's always a choice of players to go with. Any number of factors can make up your final decision - including articles and Opta stats provided by the website.

While these players are not posting RMT's, you can be sure they're picking up the ideas and the regular themes that run through the majority of them. They'll be making their own notes and trying to squeeze the key players they want with some that are budget buys but represent good value.

narrow it down by deciding which club you want coverage from. right no you have no united, no pool, and no city attack. at least one of your defenders should be 4.0.
