[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

It was meant to be a comfortable home win, an opening day Anfield stroll against Sunderland. With Luis Suarez passed fit to play and the £50m midfield trio of Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson all making their Premier League bows for Liverpool, surely Kenny Dalglish’s side would pick up the three points and start the season with a bang?

Suarez opened the scoring- a twelfth minute header made amends for an earlier missed penalty- and had Fantasy managers ruing the decision to plump for the safety of Andy Carroll, in light of the Uruguayan’s recent three week break.

The first forty-five saw Liverpool dominant- Andy Carroll had a goal disallowed and Downing hit the bar as the Reds threatened to put the match beyond their visitors’ reach. For those of us with investment in Liverpool’s players, the second half looked promising..

Steve Bruce, however, had other ideas. Ten new signings over the close season suggests this is a side in transition but Sunderland showed a real battling quality that holds promise for the campaign ahead. A stunner from Seb Larsson -snapped up on a free transfer from Birmingham- stole the show after the interval as the Black Cats went toe to toe with their big-spending hosts and took home a well-deserved draw.

While Liverpool travel to the Emirates in Gameweek 2, Sunderland face a showdown with Newcastle at the Stadium of Light. If the Black Cats can replicate this type of determined performance in the Tyne-Wear derby, Alan Pardew may have more than just twitter accounts to keep him awake over the upcoming days.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Looks like the kneejerking has begun. I hope i don't lose 0.1 by keeping him but he's too good a player not to deliver some decent point hauls. Saw enough today to suggest he is capable.

I was never one of those. Do you not think Taarabt is capable of coming good? I've told myself to make less transfers this season. Bad result for QPR today but Wigan lost 4-0 last season and then went on to beat Tottenham away.

Boselli is probably a bit harsh. Dorrans would be more suitable. A flair player who thrived in the Championship but struggled with little service or space in the premier league.

    I wish..

That FPL would post a message apologising, explaining the problem and what they are doing about it. Also whether the no live updates are a change of policy or another consequence of the ongoing problems.

That people would stop the constant whinging, yes it's a pain but anyone who thinks they aren't doing their best to sort it is naive.

There was always at least one mod at all times to clear rascist scum like those here earlier.

Yeah, you've got the clarity Bovi ... a site that generates revenue via users/clicks would definitely want to downgrade/not fix major problems that could cause hundreds of thousands of fewer users and potentially hundreds of millions of clicks.

        What a dolt.

if they were doing their best, it wouldnt take them over one day. would hardly take half a day 2b honest IF THEY ARE TRYING THEIR BEST. ignorant fool.
facebook fixed their (failed upgrade) chat IN 5 DAYS OR SO... cant you see howmuch it actually takes (and howmuch click revenue lost!) to make a large firm realise their mistake. plus they cannot make impulsive decisions without giving the users a chance to get used to it. think before you open your gob the next time. are u a construction worker?

I'm fairly relaxed about the issues with the scores. It is clearly teething issues and so am sure it will be resolved for next week. The Telegraph game is having similar problems, however, the difference is that they have a statement of the site explaining this. FPL really must do the same

13 with Lescott, Cole, Malouda, Silva, and Rooney (C) to play.

So basically it all hinges on tomorrow....

So is Bramble injured or is Ferdinand first choice centre back? I find it strange that both Bramble and Turner didnt play today.

Neither technically. Bramble is not fully fit and was on the bench but would definitely be ahead of AF normally (as would Turner). However with O'Shea to come back it remains to be seen who will be first choice.

My bet is a back four of Bards - Brown - Bramble - O'Shea.

I would hope so. Last thing I need at this stage is having to transfer out one of my cheapie defenders.
I'm worried though that Bruce might leave the team unchanged next week after playing so well today...

It's a possibility, but they looked like they were going to get murdered early on. O'Shea is their captain so he'll definitely be back in when he's fit, that'll mix things up and open the door for other changes if nothing else does anyway. Ferdinand's been nearing a move elsewhere from what I've read, admittedly that's been the case for a very long time.

21 points with Cash, Nani and captain Silva to play. Could be worse. If I'd played Warnock over Gabbidon I'd be on 29 and very happy.

17 points on the field and 15 on the bench before bps - nice!

Nani, Drogs & A.Cole to play though and Clichy, who probably won't (couldn't get on to do my customary final tweak based on predicted line-ups at 10am). likely to get subbed out for Johnson who's mysteriously sat ahead of Simpson.
Most annoying thing is I did get on at 730 for 10 minutes to swap out Given and Suarez - should've left it well alone.

Not a vintage start then, but I think that's fair to say for pretty much everything this weekend...fortunately as an Everton fan I'm primed for disappointment.

Downing was pretty good today again. Ran with the ball for 30 yards and hit the bar. Unlucky, because if he had scored that the game would have been sealed with the way we were playing.

N'Zog - same as before. One of the main creative forces in a side that won't score that many goals. What puts me off is his price and the lack of alternatives around it, but he'll have some big weeks for sure.

Campbell - not sure if he was drifting left to compensate for Taarabt's roaming, but he still looked in the mix with Bothroyd and is a proven player in a very similar situation.

Downing - seems pretty much nailed on as if anyone drops out for Kuyt it'll be Hendo, and he can play on either side. Looked dangerous today, has a lot of big players to compete with for points though.

As a voice of patience and tolerance this is really no fun. I can understand some minor lack of foresight on aspects of the game but this really feels like the tea lady has taken over the playability of the game. W T F.
