It was meant to be a comfortable home win, an opening day Anfield stroll against Sunderland. With Luis Suarez passed fit to play and the £50m midfield trio of Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson all making their Premier League bows for Liverpool, surely Kenny Dalglish’s side would pick up the three points and start the season with a bang?

Suarez opened the scoring- a twelfth minute header made amends for an earlier missed penalty- and had Fantasy managers ruing the decision to plump for the safety of Andy Carroll, in light of the Uruguayan’s recent three week break.

The first forty-five saw Liverpool dominant- Andy Carroll had a goal disallowed and Downing hit the bar as the Reds threatened to put the match beyond their visitors’ reach. For those of us with investment in Liverpool’s players, the second half looked promising..

Steve Bruce, however, had other ideas. Ten new signings over the close season suggests this is a side in transition but Sunderland showed a real battling quality that holds promise for the campaign ahead. A stunner from Seb Larsson -snapped up on a free transfer from Birmingham- stole the show after the interval as the Black Cats went toe to toe with their big-spending hosts and took home a well-deserved draw.

While Liverpool travel to the Emirates in Gameweek 2, Sunderland face a showdown with Newcastle at the Stadium of Light. If the Black Cats can replicate this type of determined performance in the Tyne-Wear derby, Alan Pardew may have more than just twitter accounts to keep him awake over the upcoming days.

Suarez annoys me - I always intended to have him not Carroll (he seems both better and cheaper), but was worried over whether he'd play gw1. Those who didn't know he was doubtful and played him anyway got the benefit, and I now have to waste a transfer on the swap.

But - hey - I know ultimately it pays dividends to pay close attention to injury news.

    Even so, annoying.

Ihear you but I went with the philosophy of that Suarez would be a season player for me and felt that I shouldn't waste a transfer getting him in later

I fear he may get dropped to accomodate an extra body in midfield next week. Meireles or Kuyt. Carroll's goal should have stood yesterday. He didn't touch Ferdinand.

Morning all, I'm hoping for some decent points from silva (c), nani, Kompany and cashley. I'm regretting the decision of going rvp over Rooney but then Im happy I managed to change Carroll to suarez whilst everyone struggled to log in.
On the live scores I think it will happen in the future and yesterday was just ' teething' problems. I'm disappointed that it wasnt updated and that none of my leagues have been updated yet but I love playing the game and I think that fpl maybe changed one too many things and struggled to have everything running properly due to concentrating on the changes.
Remember there will of been the casual player yesterday throwing a team together before kick off and that will be the last of it for them.

I am hoping the real time points comes back as even the wife was disappointed yesterday (she's really got into it) and it kinda ruined the fotty afternoon for us (sad but true).

I emailed FPL about it (I don't expect a reply) and also the ridiculous H2H situation which is simply incompetence.

It would be hice if the leages were updated each day so we can see how the oppo are doing.

Other than that, 18 points with 5 big boys to play. Not good but it could be worse.

Yeah I'm really dissapointed that I have no idea how I'm fairings up in the leagues and not a clue who my opposition are in h2h leagues.
The live updates must of been a glitch why would players be at 0 as they were playing otherwise? I hope it's all back to normal next wee, if not I'll email them.
On a different note I got 25, the mrs didn't do too well and she has Cahill sat as the 3rd sub!

It is quite unbeleivable that this cockup has happened and it does make the EPL look somewhat silly. I can almost understand things being slow due to the site being so busy (but even then, they should have predicted that) but for things to just not work is incompetence. Didn't they test it all? Surely they've had a year to get it all right?

Anyway, enough of that. My missus is on 17 with 4 to play. As long as I beat her that's all that matters 😉

If you take the player at the top of the index from yesterday-Klasnic-you will see that he had a goal and an assist. This is clearly a significant factor here. Not sure if this will be reflected when the real bps come out but it will be interesting to compare.

Don't worry about one night, my highest score was a 3 and had Given and Simpson on the bench as well as Carroll Captain. But with a bit of luck carrol could have easily score twice and the rest could have at least done something. It's a marathon not a sprint and as long as you don't do anything stupid with a rush decision you'll be back to a good standard.

Chelsea traditionally start the season strong (first game), West Brom are not exactly amazing. Your right neither side is relegation fodder as such but they are not direct competitors to the title therefore both teams should win

u don't need Chelsea and Manu to win to get ur points--u only need ur players to score/assist-a 2-2 draw for manu, for eg with Rooney scoring 2 will be good enough for most FPl managers..

        Positives:
Senderos played and looks a steal if can keep place.
I drafted Enrique in and benched him.
        Moses looks good.

28 with three to go and captain played. Pretty dire.

But happy with most of my squad.

Quick verdict on my cheeky punts

Holt - showed enough promise to be a worthwhile 5.5 striker
Moses- lots of effort, great runs, no final ball, but still happy with him.
Taarabt - he's gone - next transfer is him out for a sun/wolves mid
Gabbidon- staying on my bench forever - or until I can get rid. Thankfully he was on the bench this week.

I swapped him for Ohara on friday....may just get ohara back.

Ohara's high metro score suggested he could be in for bonus. Jarvis looked good and set to get a fair few assists if they keep attacking like that. May go for Larsson though.

this week Taarabt will drop and L:arsson will rise.

And did you see RJohnson's total football moment?...box to box passing all the way..nearly scored as well.

yep...QPR were built round him in championship. Prem teams are more savvy...isolate Taarabt then you stifle QPR...coupled with poor defence, terrible owners they looked poor. Norwich in comparison will do better, although will still struggle. They just had more grit and organisation to them.

He wasn't bad per se (well, perhaps he was, relative to the standard he set in the Champ), but was rather quiet.

Won a free kick or two, had only one effort of note, well struck but ultimately speculative.

Became more anonymous when the whole team's heads went down after the second goal.

I think metro scoring - based on opta stats is a good indication of bonus as they give pts for the passes, clearances etc which all add to the influence bit...as well as goals, clean sheets etc

They make A Hughes, Warnock and Given among the top performers. Zamora is close behind so under the EA sports 'its in the ruined game' system you could be right about bobby getting the bonus.

'Jonty' someone posted earlier and said the prediction from the members section had zamora as the '3 points' which I find hard to believe in a 0-0 draw.

'Epic fail' I had kenny on the field over given, I thought qpr would be strong at home to start the season (kenny had no chance on the two deflections and cahill's) and didn't see aston villa keeping a clean sheet away

I don;t think I'm too radically knee jerking to suggest that QPR have all the hall marks of a team who will be regularly thumped. Really wish I had a everton player. Leon Osman is starting to look very, very attractive.

      2. No BPs will be awarded til Monday under new rules.
