Roberto Mancini’s riches are already begin to trouble us Fantasy Managers. Today’s victory at the Reebok may have added further evidence to suggest that they are a team filled with Fantasy talent, but it’s also clear that our quest for secure sources of Fantasy points looks a tough one.

David Silva’s opening goal, although exposing Jussi Jaaskelainen, reinforced the argument that the Spaniard could emerge as the standout midfield option this term. Once again he was City’s creative spark, feeding off the industry of Gareth Barry, James Milner and Yaya Toure in the engine room. Silva looks nailed-on for starts – the likely protagonist in City’s title tilt, but he also looks the exception in Mancini’s impressive armoury.

Toure will get starts but the role handed to him is a concern. So impressive when pushed forward to exert pressure on the Swansea defence on Monday, today, with Nigel De Jong nursing a foot injury, Mancini shackled Toure in a holding midfield role. He obliged with a disciplined showing that proved fruitless for us Fantasy managers. The ease at which Toure adapts to this role is a worry – particularly when City come up against more testing opposition when Mancini will be tempted to temper the Ivorian’s attacking instincts, hindering his potential.

Similar the sight of Carlos Tevez on the City bench, apparently content to extend his residence in Mancini’s squad, will be a concern for those who were seduced by the brilliance of Segio Aguero in Monday night’s game. City’s new Argentinian had ample opportunities to add to his tally but ultimately drew a frustrating blank. Inevitably, Tevez replaced him with over 20 minutes remaining – you could taste the disappointment amongst the Fantasy fraternity. In a brief appearance, Tevez also showed an appetite to be part of things – that has to be a worry.

With such an option on the sidelines, we can only anticipate that Aguero will always be vulnerable – perhaps not for starts, but certainly to having his pitch time cut by the introduction of his compatriot. Can Fantasy managers be content with that prospect week in week out?

Edin Dzeko’s start to the season doesn’t help matters– while plenty will be contemplating Fantasy investment in a striker who has notched 2 goals and put in a pair of impressive displays, there will always be concern that Mancini will shift to a 4-5-1 with Adam Johnson or even Mario Balotelli given run-outs on the flank.

For now Dzeko is picking himself by Mancini’s approach to the teamsheet is fickle and it can afford to be. City appear to have an appetite for goals and an array of providers queuing up to impress. Great for the Italian boss and City’s ambitions – potentially frustrating for Fantasy managers looking to capitalise. At least there is a Silva lining.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

lol its called the champions league and teams not finishing first get to play in it. maybe the name is misleading

but it should be for the best teams in europe

if its just the champions then it would be ****ing shit as great teams would miss out

I have Torres in my team. He's on 70% to go down tonight, after 90% of the day so, chances are he won't go down tonight.

He's home to Norwich next. Even if he loses up to 0.2 between now and then, if I make no transfers at all I'll have 2 free transfers to correct the balance for GW4. I could get Suarez, Drogba, Hernandez, Anelka, Dzeko immediately or anybody at all with a slight 2-move re-balancing act.

Talk of a WC already is daft.

After GW3 is an international break. Have a look at WC then maybe. Not before.

BIG question. it seems that if mancini is committed to playing a more attacking style with dzeko and aguero up front, yaya drops deeper into a holding role.

agreed, especially if the nasri deal is in fact botched.

silva was the better choice anyway, reflected in his price. but the 1.5 hit is totally worth it if you want city midfield cover.

No, unfortunately I live in Ireland and don't get to see many matches. I was working too so had to make do with the highlights. Pain in the arse.
Delighted with the result though, Taylor's freekick was peachy. Cabaye looked alright from what I saw, he did do an appalling tackle though. Cattermole should have been sent off as should Larsson for the handball and so should that dirty shitehouse Bardsley, that was a truly horrible tackle and it was lucky Collo didn't break a leg.

Yeah it was a cracking effort from Taylor. Yeah was a real cruncher from Cabaye good to see he got into the spirit of the Derby though I really like him (and he got more point as captain than Torres )

Bardsley's tackle was absolutely disgraceful, as Ronnie Whelan pointed out on the highlights he actually slowed down to put in the tackle on Coloccini. It was so close to a broken leg you could see it bend, it's a pity they can't give extended bans for tackles like that.

For people familiar with Total FPL/Fantasy Tools, do you remember that last year, in the My Team section, you could enter the IDs of your league rivals, and could then see their teams line up alongside each other each week.

I've tried to set this up again but it doesn't seem to work.
