When it comes to Fantasy talent, more often or not, you get what you pay for.

When the pre-season price lists emerged, we spent the weeks before kick-off lamenting the price of established heavy-hitters and harbouring hopes that a string of mid-price midfield talent could fill gaps in our squads. The savvy Fantasy manager could see the potential. There were secret meetings about the promise of Victor Moses, whispered pub conversations about the prospects of Jamie O’Hara.

Consistency comes as a price, however. When we take a punt on mid-price talent, we’re not in a position to rage when the points aren’t delivered. We will rage regardless but, when the mists clear, the reality is that we have to have patience to get the most from these players.

Or do we? With an international break denying us Fantasy action next weekend, there’s now an alarming gap between Gameweeks – a yawning void that can easily prompt the sturdiest of knees to twitch into a full blown jerk; particularly if the Gameweeks have so far failed to deliver.

There will be glares of frustration aimed at an array of players, many of which came into the season with weighty expectations on their shoulders. You can take the aforementioned Moses and O’Hara and add Scott Sinclair, Adel Taarabt, Stephane Sessegnon and, in particular Charles N’Zogbia – currently the third most owned midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Should Chris Brunt and Stewart Downing draw further blanks in their matches this weekend, you can then throw their names into the hat.

A hit-list? A compilation of failing Fantasy talent that’s ripe for the chop? While the international break will tempt wholesale changes from the suffering Fantasy manager, short-term squad surgery has to be controlled. Our mid-price talent should surely be given time to demonstrate their worth.

The signs have been positive enough – Taarabt struck the woodwork twice at Wigan today, Moses had further opportunities and struck the bar at Swansea, Sinclair was also denied by the bar against Sunderland. Should we expect more? Did we really expect such players to deliver on their promise immediately?

The answer to that depends greatly on whether your heavy-hitters have been performing. If you’re without Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and David Silva, then their pulling power over the break will be substantial and is likely to prompt change. Come the revolution, the ailing mid-price midfielder could be first to go – downgraded to bench-warming fodder, sacrificed to bring in a big name elsewhere.

Such a decision has to be taken with care. That’s the thing about the consistency of a mid-price midfielder – just as we’re on dodgy ground when we’re berating its failure after three Gameweeks, we’ll only have ourselves to blame when it delivers on its promise out of the blue.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Sensible?

Do you think there is a better 6m option? Or how are people feeling about Gervinho as a cheaper Arsenal attacking option?

Yup, new BP system may as well be replaced with 3 extra points for a goal and 2 for an assist. I don't know why, when every impartial individual out there can see who plays best in a game, they can't just dish them out on actual merit of "Man of the Match" or Star Players. The old system was supposed to be like that but failed, this one is even worse. I wonder if it's run by Sepp Blatter?

Right.. my take on the matches I watched today.

    Villa v Wolves

Wolves were the better side first half Villa had the 2nd, both looked really solid defensively.
Jarvis looked decent but got subbed after an hour. O'Hara was ok, nothing special. Hunt was anonymous. Doyle played mostly as a hold up player and didnt have much.
For Villa Heskey was anonymous. Bent didn't get any real opportunities. N'Zogbia looked most likely to score but put his 2 best chances went over and wide, he also retained direct fks. Agbonlahor and Herd were Villa's best performers.

    Chelsea v Norwich

Norwich played the first 15/20 minutes like headless chickens. Never tracked Bosingwa proeprly who ended up scoring a beauty. They were far stronger when Pilkington came on and had plenty of chances, probably ended up being an even second half. Holt was useless, offsides and 2 good missed chances in the first half, his goal was giftwrapped by Hilarious who really is a useless article. Johnson and Martin looked decent.
Chelsea.. there's something not right with them atm. They were cruising but then started allowing Norwich to play and went on the backfoot. Torres was completely useless, looking frustrated as usual. Bosingwa had a brilliant first half and decent second. Lampard and Drogba were Chelsea's biggest, Lampard picked out a few nice passes to Torres & Drogba and his delivery was generally excellent. Drogba always looked threatening til he quite literally landed on his face and got stretchered off, looked nasty. Mata didn't do much when he came on, he kept it tidy and it looks like there might be potential for he and Lampard to link up in future, his goal was fortuitous being giftwrapped by Norwich's defence.

    Liverpool v Bolton

Liverpool coasted the entire match and never looked in doubt. Suarez was the stand out player again but missed a great opportunity. Henderson looked sharp and took his goal well. As did Adam, every one of them played well, apart from maybe Carragher 🙂
Bolton really were appauling from start to finish. I wouldn't touch their defence with a barge poll seeing Zat Knight, Robinson and Jaaskelainen in there. Petrov showed flashes but was too quiet. Mark Davies looked like their only capable player.

        the pros are.........

we now know who a bit more about who is hot and who is not

teams like arsenal are coming into good fixtures

international break could see injuries and with a wildcard you can chop and change at no cost

        the cons are......

if injuries strike your new team you have no wildcard back up until jan

its still early and players are finding their form and no doubt the players you drop will score loads gameweek 4

Resisting the urge to wildcard. Just as I resisted the urge to make a transfer this week. Came home from the pub last night and spent a drunken hour switching the armband between Torres and Suarez. Woke up this morning, semi-sober, played safe, and put it on Lamps. And, as I resisted a transfer, Saha will be auto-subbed by Brown's 6pts. First bit of luck this season.

Last season was my first and I made so many horrible knee jerks in the early days, that cost me dearly in the long run, so I'm learning. Patience IS a virtue. But I acknowledge that it's very hard to be virtuous sometimes.

It's the annual international break Wildcard panic time! I quite like my team, but is it worth wc-ing to build up some value? Have two free transfers to use as it is...

    Vorm (Given)
Bosingwa, Baines, Simpson, De Laet, Senderos
    Silva, N'Zog, Moses, Sess, Tiote
    Rooney, Suarez, Bent

If I'm honest, I'm leaning towards yes. Get rid of some deadwood, bring in some risers, fix at the end of the break. Does this means I lose my built-up free transfers though?

Sell sell sell. Two assists, one goal and presumably three baps to come in two games. He's done his job.

Swansea and Sunderland look good for more points for him

        Hard to sell for me.

I can easily do Sinclair and Bent > Dzeko , Walcott and keep him

He's making way for RvP, 2 free transfers with possibly Ramsay.

My initial plan was to sell him after this GW but it seems I have better candidates for transferring out. He'll stay for at least one more week I think.

Bit annoyed Adebayor still hasn't been added yet as i've a few transfers in mind. If he's 8.5 or under I'll bring him in and hope he isn't just there to pick up his paycheque.

Apart from Bosingwa, suarez, and Jarvis. Are there any potential risers?

Also, from my look at fpl, is it right that Moses, Sinclair , sess, and surman are safe from price drop?

I'm considering to delay wc if I can manage to keep team value.

    Please advise.

Carragher should be axed. The sooner they make the decision the better for the team. Definitely the weakest out of the centre backs in the five or six best teams in the league.

Do people think Van Persie will rise in price back up to 12m because people are transfering Torres out and getting him in.

Exactly, the vast majority look at the sidebar for whatever position they need and go "ooh Klasnic! 23 points and only £6.0m - I'll have him!". Mind you, so do a lot on here I think!

Anyone cutting some corners and going with the legendary Gervinho instead of RVP? 🙂 Might backfire spectacularly but could be pretty nice too, eh?
