When it comes to Fantasy talent, more often or not, you get what you pay for.

When the pre-season price lists emerged, we spent the weeks before kick-off lamenting the price of established heavy-hitters and harbouring hopes that a string of mid-price midfield talent could fill gaps in our squads. The savvy Fantasy manager could see the potential. There were secret meetings about the promise of Victor Moses, whispered pub conversations about the prospects of Jamie O’Hara.

Consistency comes as a price, however. When we take a punt on mid-price talent, we’re not in a position to rage when the points aren’t delivered. We will rage regardless but, when the mists clear, the reality is that we have to have patience to get the most from these players.

Or do we? With an international break denying us Fantasy action next weekend, there’s now an alarming gap between Gameweeks – a yawning void that can easily prompt the sturdiest of knees to twitch into a full blown jerk; particularly if the Gameweeks have so far failed to deliver.

There will be glares of frustration aimed at an array of players, many of which came into the season with weighty expectations on their shoulders. You can take the aforementioned Moses and O’Hara and add Scott Sinclair, Adel Taarabt, Stephane Sessegnon and, in particular Charles N’Zogbia – currently the third most owned midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Should Chris Brunt and Stewart Downing draw further blanks in their matches this weekend, you can then throw their names into the hat.

A hit-list? A compilation of failing Fantasy talent that’s ripe for the chop? While the international break will tempt wholesale changes from the suffering Fantasy manager, short-term squad surgery has to be controlled. Our mid-price talent should surely be given time to demonstrate their worth.

The signs have been positive enough – Taarabt struck the woodwork twice at Wigan today, Moses had further opportunities and struck the bar at Swansea, Sinclair was also denied by the bar against Sunderland. Should we expect more? Did we really expect such players to deliver on their promise immediately?

The answer to that depends greatly on whether your heavy-hitters have been performing. If you’re without Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and David Silva, then their pulling power over the break will be substantial and is likely to prompt change. Come the revolution, the ailing mid-price midfielder could be first to go – downgraded to bench-warming fodder, sacrificed to bring in a big name elsewhere.

Such a decision has to be taken with care. That’s the thing about the consistency of a mid-price midfielder – just as we’re on dodgy ground when we’re berating its failure after three Gameweeks, we’ll only have ourselves to blame when it delivers on its promise out of the blue.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

come on, he's a (grossly overpriced, ahem) defender, dont usually expect defenders to take penalties. I think in the long term he still has value, and as you say next 2 fixtures are good. However after GW5 his fixtures are beyond awful and that imo is when he should go

I've already got rid. Could get cleanies but attacking potential is heavily diminished by lack of pens and also if Cahill continues not to start, as most of his assists were to him. Convinced myself otherwise before and had he taken that pen it would be very different, but the money you can spend elsewhere is just too much.

Not IMO. You can afford the first two without the third presumably, so taking a hit to get rid of Nani for someone cheaper makes no sense.

Just come home from a trip to the Lake District, totally shattered.

First thing I found was a load of negatives:

    1. For the 3rd week in a row, i have a clean sheet on the bench (Warnock)
    2. For the 2nd week in a row, i had a clean sheet denied by a last minute goal (Enrique)
    3. Fatty Holt decides to score now that he is last on my bench, and I have Hilario in goal who just happened to be at fault for the goal. Also made 5 saves which is a number I hate, why not one more?? The choice of Hilario instead of Bosingwa for chelsea defense cover looks ever worse...
    4. Ruddy sent off, means that I have no keeper for next GW unless I make a transfer (assuming cech returns)
    5. Torres, Moses, Sessegnon, bah.

But then, Frank(C) outweighs all. 😀

i've never been a fan of money making in international break, mainly because it doesnt usually work. imo if you didnt need to use the wildcard then you shouldnt have used it. the thing with price rises is if your players do well, then people are more likely to get them (bandwagons etc etc) so your team value will rise

it's a tricky one because he puts such a shift in week after week but i wonder if it's time for coyle to experiment without for a bit. i think it would have been better to do last season when they had elmander because maybe a poacher like klasnic needs a hard working handful alongside him. not sure tuncay and klasnic would work but it would be refereshing to see it tried, every minute of every game is too much davies for my liking

But it's not easy to find strikers who are better for a team like Bolton. I don't think Kevin Davies had a good game today but he was good against City last week and does his fair bit of scoring and assisting too.

I certainly think Bolton have at least five or six players who need to be replaced more urgently.

just to assure you, it's not just based on today, that would be very harsh.
when you put it like that it would be hard to find a replacement. just think he's become too nailed on and too comfortable and he's too influental on the side, in a similar to way to carroll he his influence is very dominant and makes it hard for the side to be flexible when he's there.

Oh I know you wouldn't base that all on today.

I know what you're saying and I agree on Carroll, even if I will have to give him far more time.

I still hear what you're saying, it's an easy option for Bolton to hit the long ball to Kevin Davies if in danger but as they're still struggling to finish inside the top10 dropping him doesn't seem like a sensible option to me.

My plan is to get Silva and either RVP or Rooney in for Lamps and Torres for week 4 using my 2 free transfers. I'm very reluctant to do transfers this early, especially when there are international games in between but have no money in the bank so have to do Lamps to Silva in order to ditch Torres. Should I wait until close to the deadline before transferring, or do it tonight or tomorrow night?

"have no money in the bank so have to do Lamps to Silva in order to ditch Torres"

Maybe I wasn't clear. I'm getting a £12m striker in for Torres therefore need the money from the Lampard to Silva transfer. If I could, I would just do the striker transfer tonight or tomorrow to avoid Torres price drop and hold off on Lampard to Silva until after internationals.

But Silva will also rise so you'd lose out on 0.1 which ever one you did. What i'm saying is you can afford to wait. Sure you'll lose 0.2 compared to if you did them tonight but that's pittance really compared to one or both of them picking up injuried tomorrows on with their national teams

Think it's a little too soon to wildcard. Sessegnon isn't playing badly, but there's no-one to appreciate his efforts, imo. Drogba you'll need to replace, but Zamora isn't so bad.

Not sure what to think of Yaya, but you're not in SUCH a bad placed that you need to wildcard, imo.

Hi Folks, can anyone shed some light on the 'playing wildcard to gain squad value situation'?

        1) How do you know when a players value is going to rise?

        2) Do all player prices go up by 0.1m at a time/Do some rise more than others?

        3) If I play wildcard now and transfer in 15 imminent risers, can I ship them all back out once they've gone up before the next deadline without incurring 4pt hits.

        4) Or would I need another wildcard to do this, in order to make more changes with the cash gained?

5)Basically, can you keep coming back and making unlimited changes in different visits, under 1 wildcard?

Yes you can, basically get in all the risers by checking totalfpl.com (anyone over 100%), if they rise twice in the next two weeks you can sell them on and you will have made 0.1m and can transfer in whoever you like on saturday morning before next gameweek

          1) go on the site called totalfpl
          2) a player can only rise by 0.1 each day, regardless of them being 441% for a rise or whatever like Berbatov last year
          3) if you play wildcard, then you take no hits at all regarless of who you get or how many transfers you make
          4) firstly you only have one wildcard so 'need another wildcard' means nothing, even if you have 2 wildcards (you get an extra one in Jan) you only need to play one, i think you cant play two although ive never tried
          5) yes

btw, i dont believe in this making money in international break lark, you're just as likely to make money in any other GW if there are enough events in the previous gw worth kneejerking

          2. 0.1 up or down in a day (see link above)

          3. yes but you only get 50% of the price difference so need a rise of 0.2 to make profit

          1) Total FPL or FISO show likely price rises/falls
          2) They go up by .1 at a time, but if someone gets transfered in a LOT then there's a chance of hitting his quota twice and rising twice.
          3) Wildcard = unlimited transfers. They'd have to rise by .2 for you to get any profit.
          4) You only have 1 wildcard availablle right now...
          5) Yes.. unlimited transfers ðŸ˜

Incredible performance today by Suarez, but the bonus points would have to go to other players I guess. In my book he's basically the best Liverpool player in every game I've ever seen him play for them.
