It’s the third Saturday of the season and, unless you’re on wildcard number three, the subtle tinkering that separates the wheat from the chaff finally takes over. You’re not completely on your own however, as The Saturday Surgery opens it’s doors for another session.

All the resources you need to make your decisions as informed as possible are at your fingertips. The weekend Team News is bang up-to-date, the Scout Picks have been selected (and let’s face, they’re almost guaranteed to do better than the first two efforts) and the Injuries and Bans table is there as a sanity check to avoid those daft last-minute punts on crocked players (I’ve been there).

For me, I’ll be making the subtlest of changes… zero transfers, same captain. So I’m off to pop the kettle on, and when I get back I’ll heading over to the The Saturday Surgery to smugly take pleasure as others scramble around for inspiration. Enjoy.

    I've been thinking about how we could reduce the number of RMT's and polls in the comments, and what the site could offer as a new feature that would give people a lot of those answers.

    Every week the scouts could create a list of the most popular (say) 30 players in the game (even covering of positions) and people click/vote the 11 of those they would start that week (regardless of whether they have them in their side). You would end up with a 'members most popular XI' that people could refer to when making decisions around who to start. Next to the player it would show the % of votes and same for the players that don't make the XI.

    So for example people who are tossing up between Given and Vorm would see at a glance who had the most selects/votes.

    It's certainly not perfect and there's loads of questions it wouldn't answer but I wouldn't mind betting at least half of the questions and polls people have would dry up.

    Just a thought...

      Anyway, I'm still unsure if the RMT posts will be reduced as, event there is a scout picks team + team news + captain's poll, people may still need opinion on their specific team selection.. 🙂

      I dont think it would stop the RMT's. We already have a full team picked for us every week with the Scout Picks and a full set of good alternatives (30 or so players) provided by The Watchlist. Plus we can see the % for most picked players in the FPL game. But even they dont stop the RMT's!

        Yeah I know what you mean, I suppose the difference would be that this feature would reflect the opinions of the readers on here which isn't really reflected in any of those other things and that seems to be what so many people want with their posts.

        Just think how many more captain's questions there would be if there wasn't the poll on the home page!

      Given I have no technical skills I wouldn't even know if it could be done, just wishful thinking at this stage.

      Someone could probably make a lot of money if they created an application that actually rated someones team!

        My pet hate is when people say the reason for not benching someone is their price. Price is irrelevant on a single game basis. It's the sum of the whole team / form/ fixtures.
        Yeah bench RVP if you wish it's not a bad idea v Man U. However he is RVP!

    Apologies to "Wigan to me" H2H league rivals. I have the joint lowest score of the 20 players,but have managed to win both H2H games, there is a dreadful injustice about H2H which makes me laugh a lot. 🙂
