With Wayne Rooney fit to face Norwich and Sergio Aguero sizing up Blackburn at Ewood, it seemed unlikely that we’d be pondering the merits of another when Brucie stumbles over his autocue this evening. Today strictly belonged to Gabby Agbonlahor however, as the Villa roadrunner unveiled a full repertoire of pace, power and trickery to waltz through a hapless Wigan defence.

As Rooney huffed and puffed against Norwich resistance, his fellow Manchester hitman was already clutching an ice-pack to a 27th minute injury that saw Aguero forced off and miss out on an Ewood massacre. That left the headlines open for Agbonlahor; he duly added another chapter to an unlikely tale of his ascent back to England recognition.

While Fabio may resist, Fantasy managers will now be well aware of Agbonlahor’s resurgence. Four goals in seven starts, three assists thrown in – a top 10 EA PPI placing – the case is looking a strong one.

Ownership has been creeping up at pace, and now, with a prolonged break for international distractions, you can bet that Agbonlahor’s charms will attract further investment – another FPL price rise piled on his now generous 6.5 initial valuation.

The engine on Agbonlahor’s bandwagon sounds healthy; for many he will now surely emerge as the favoured third striker option, sandwiched between two heavyweights. On a day where two such “big-hitting†strikers disappointed, the potential offered by Agbonlahor shines brighter than ever.

Typically, I can throw a sizeable spanner in the works, a few speed bumps in the road. Agbonlahor and Villa go to Man City next; Roberto Mancini’s side are yet to concede a single goal at home in three matches this season. Regardless, with many Fantasy forward lines stalling today, I’d wager thousands will turn Agbonlahor’s way to help salve the disappointment.

*edit* – Since publish, Gabriel Agbonlahor has Spoken to the BBC (see 17:39) and confirmed that he will be using the upcoming International Break to try and fix a niggle he has been carrying. He confirmed…

“I’ve got a back problem. I’m going to get it sorted during the international break.”

This news may in fact temper some of the early knee-jerkers with full prognosis on potential back woes perhaps needed before it can be full steam ahead on the Agbonlahor bandwagon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Any point in getting Enrique in this week even though I'd be a madman to play him? I assume that his price will rocket this week and I don't want Brown anymore, don't trust Sunderland as far as I can throw them.

I'd say it depends on how happy you are with your team as a whole. My thinking is that even if he goes up in price it may only be by .1 given the next fixture. If the rest of your team is set for a while then go for it.

Hmm I'll probably just live with missing out on a .1. Will ditch one of my big mifielders (Nani or Mata) and leave dosh to jump on Suarez and Enrique.

Well I'm more likely to keep Nani than Mata but if Nani gets 2 next week and Mata get 10 and 8 in the next two then it's a different decision.

I gave up Mata last week to get Nani. I want them both and figured with Nani's price rises that it would be easier to get back Mata in a few weeks. That's my plan. Always interesting to hear the strategy of others though.

No I'm not kneejerking Nani out my team I'm not a 'crackhead' but GW9 Pool have great fixtures and I'll want Suarez only way is to go back to 2 big midfieldes instead of 3. So Silva is staying and after next week one of Mata or Nani will have to be ditched.

No worries. Yeah unless Mata starts firing I think it's going to be Silva and Nani. Or even Silva and VDV, still not overly sold on Nani's long term potential given rotation.

As shown today - only Liverpool, Utd, City & Villa kept clean sheets today. Strong but cheapish - Warnock, Bos, Kompany, Jones, Enrique etc.

Though you need 2 strong midfielders - Nani, Silva etc as relying on CS can be very stressful - late goals for example.

      Midfield goal = 5pts, Clean Sheet = 4pts.

Arteta for Silva and downgrade Kompany to Shawx would give me Silva back and just a 4 pt hit, wildcard intact.

Do you think that's a better move than wildcarding this GW?

i would hold off for a week, man city got a decent chance of cs at home to villa and arsenal playing home to a poor sunderland for arteta to be in the points.

Only do it if you got no pressing transfers elsewhere in your side, as gwk 9 going to be hard for silva and shawcross.

but he was only benched due to his behaviour midweek, he looks better than Balotteli and Tevez won't play anymore. Mancini will probably be playing him and Aguero upfront.
You could get him out and then he scores a couple at home against Villa and he does have Wolves and QPR coming up? Who would you swap him for?

City have the squad to put out two PL teams, and they are happy to mix it up. The players will get games, and when they do they'll get points and goals cause they're quality players.

I don't understand how the FPL can't work the same way as the Fantasy NFL site.
I think there should be multiple deadlines myself - for instance, the opportunity to bring someone from your bench tomorrow if a certain player isn't playing.
