Few of us Fantasy managers had seen it coming.

A trip to Anfield, with a home clash against Man City to follow, was surely the last place you’d expect Sir Alex Ferguson to bench his two most consistent attacking players.

This lunchtime, however, saw Wayne Rooney and Nani sit out the proceedings against old foes Liverpool until a Steven Gerrard free-kick had somewhat forced Fergie’s hand. In the end, the duo were afforded twenty-one minute cameos but failed to fire, returning a single Fantasy point apiece in the 1-1 draw.

At least Roberto Mancini gave us warning- the Man City boss had spoken of rest and rotation yesterday but, with Sergio Aguero’s groin injury ruling out the Argentine, not many had expected David Silva to be benched as City looked to leapfrog their rivals and climb to the top of the table.

With Adam Johnson running amok against Aston Villa, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko were both given the day off in the 4-1 win- Silva’s appearance, midway through the second half, mirrored that of Rooney and Nani, with just one Fantasy point to his name.

A look at our Captain’s poll sums up the frustrations of many – Silva and Rooney sit second and third, an indication of the collective faith ahead of this Gameweek’s fixtures.

Today’s results afford Robin Van Persie the platform to produce the goods in what has proved a frustrating, low-scoring Fantasy Gameweek so far. Arsenal’s home showdown with Sunderland tomorrow is set up nicely, then; Fantasy managers who awarded the captain’s armband to the Dutchman look set to reap reward if the Gunners can see off an out-of-sorts Black Cats.

Two goals in his last home game certainly looks promising- Van Persie, the number one choice in the Captain’s Poll, now has the potential to be a major Gameweek-changer and proved the catalyst for a significant swing in the Fantasy fortunes of many.

Ramsey to Arteta seems a bit of a sideways move, not necessary in my opinion.

I'm not sure P Jones is nailed on anymore. Smalling and Rafael are both contending for the RB slot. I would definitely hold on to him to see if SAF uses him again in a DM role as he did today. I only watched some of the game, but I saw Jones almost score with a header so he must have been getting forward still.

I've got Nasri and Young as well. Not sure what to do with them lol. I think Nasri will get more points than Silva if he can hold down a regular place in the team

Does anyone have a firm opinion on why scores are so low this year? Is it because the top teams have stock piled so many different top players? Or formations are more fluid, sharing points around? Or the FPL prices being so high leading to unbalanced teams? And why so few clean sheets? You'd think that as athletes get better, the pitch effectively gets smaller, and goals should be harder to score.

there;s more rotation from the top sides. Rooney and others ownership is so huge that when they get 1pt not only do us lot get 1pt, but the casual player who captains rooney every week will get 2pts.

Last year a game like this, the biggest of the year, according to SAF, wouldn't have seen nani and rooney on the bench. Man City's ascendency has turned him. Looks like next weekend is in fact SAF's biggest match.

Also with Man City each week one or two of their players will score massively. But there's no way of knowing which one. I thought it'd be silva...turned out to be A johnson.

It will all even out and those that follow this site will prevail.

Worth keeping an eye on this:

Patrice Evra accuses Luis Suarez of making racist remarks 'to try to wind me up' during #lfc-#mufc. Tonight on #CanalPlus, 22.35.

Evra on Suarez: 'There are cameras, you can see him say a certain word to me at least 10 times. No place for that in 2011.' #lfc #mufc

Evra expects action to be taken regarding his Suarez racist comments accusation: 'The referee is aware of what was said.' #lfc #mufc

Isn't Suarez just the most lovable person in the world?

Playing devils's advocate, Evra isn't the most stand up bloke in the world.

Busting out the race card out of spite isn't outside the realms of reality.

???? Yeah because he's done it before hasn't he...all these years in the prem, whipping out the race card every season on an unsuspecting innocent party.

            Ha! Evidently not.

Then again, Uruguay is not exactly a hotbed of Progressive, egalitarian, multicultural appreciation, either.

Evra vs. Suarez ... even if I weren't a Utd guy, it's an easy call.

Honestly, I wouldn't put it past him. I think he's a good striker, and I own him in both this system and others, but he's a diving, cheating, whining, snarling ferret-faced tw@t.

With all this united and city roation its too risky to have nani , nasri and silva all in my team

so im thinking VDV instead of silva as he isnt in europa league and a double game week soon

I wouldn't exactly call VDV a 'guaranteed player' either, though.

Between his refusal to play D, mouthing off about/at the boss, and being a bit precious injury-wise, he is also a bit of a concern.

But I hear what you're sayin'

If player A crosses the ball and the defender heads the ball into the path of player B and player B scores, does player A get the assist?

I don't think so. Only if there is a link to the play between two players on the same side does an assist count, methinks.

If the defender heads the ball inside the penalty area then it's an assist, if If the defender heads the ball outside the penalty area then it's not an assist

        +1

"Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

In the event of a penalty or free-kick, the player earning the penalty or free-kick gets an assist if a goal is directly scored, but not if he takes it himself, in which case no assist is given."

I wonder why the player who wins a penalty, then scores it, doesn't get an assist as well. Bit inconsistent.

            A player can assist himself?

Well then, every two- or more-touch goal would be assist + goal.

            Don't be greedy 😉

If a player wins a penalty, then scores it, he deserves all the plaudits (and we the points) for creating that goal all on his lonesome.

Yes, Adam looks set to be awarded an assist for his shameless dive.

I have recorded the game to show my kids in order to demonstrate the capriciousness of fate and the level of unfairness in the world.

What is the general consensus with price rises/drops is fiso more reliable for drops and fpl for rises? Reason I ask I'm thinking of taking Aguero out for Suarez and want to beat price rises/drops fiso has Aguero dropping tonight nowhere to be seen on fpl, team is

    Vorm/Krul
    Bos/Enrique/N.Taylor/R.Taylor/Kompany
    Silva/Mata/Brunt/Moses/N.Dyer
    RVP/Aguero/Adebayor

1.8 in bank right move or any bigger pressing issues to correct
