Few of us Fantasy managers had seen it coming.

A trip to Anfield, with a home clash against Man City to follow, was surely the last place you’d expect Sir Alex Ferguson to bench his two most consistent attacking players.

This lunchtime, however, saw Wayne Rooney and Nani sit out the proceedings against old foes Liverpool until a Steven Gerrard free-kick had somewhat forced Fergie’s hand. In the end, the duo were afforded twenty-one minute cameos but failed to fire, returning a single Fantasy point apiece in the 1-1 draw.

At least Roberto Mancini gave us warning- the Man City boss had spoken of rest and rotation yesterday but, with Sergio Aguero’s groin injury ruling out the Argentine, not many had expected David Silva to be benched as City looked to leapfrog their rivals and climb to the top of the table.

With Adam Johnson running amok against Aston Villa, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko were both given the day off in the 4-1 win- Silva’s appearance, midway through the second half, mirrored that of Rooney and Nani, with just one Fantasy point to his name.

A look at our Captain’s poll sums up the frustrations of many – Silva and Rooney sit second and third, an indication of the collective faith ahead of this Gameweek’s fixtures.

Today’s results afford Robin Van Persie the platform to produce the goods in what has proved a frustrating, low-scoring Fantasy Gameweek so far. Arsenal’s home showdown with Sunderland tomorrow is set up nicely, then; Fantasy managers who awarded the captain’s armband to the Dutchman look set to reap reward if the Gunners can see off an out-of-sorts Black Cats.

Two goals in his last home game certainly looks promising- Van Persie, the number one choice in the Captain’s Poll, now has the potential to be a major Gameweek-changer and proved the catalyst for a significant swing in the Fantasy fortunes of many.

30 (-4) with VDV, and either Adebayor or Dyers points to come..
Disastrous...but Rooney > Sturridge last GW has me 14 points more, who would have thought that.

Had a bit of a slow start but on a 8-1-6-6-8 spree now. Think he'll be close to 7m when the season ends. As close as it gets to a season keeper for me*.

*I'll prolly sell him as soon as draws a blank and I see the dreaded dark red fixture box on here.

Since FPL opened he was a certainty for me. 6million for a guaranteed starter in the best defence in the league (last season and this) is incredible value.

i was on team 'lescott is worth the 0.5 extra than kompany' in pre-season. purely for goals which he has zero and kompany 1. oops. luckily the gw2 WC gave me a free chance to switch back to kompany. their turnaround reminds me of when stoke's goalscoring centre back was shawcross, not huth, then it suddenly flipped round

Silva is a luxury I could live without.

Not denying his quality for a second, he's brilliant, but if (when) I want Aguero back then I've got a 10m player who I'm not going to captain and is in a very expensive bracket but will struggle to scrape double figures in any given week.

He's amazing, he's consistent, he's regular... but, for me, I'd much rather own a 14/2 player than one who will score me 6/8 - and I imagine there will come a time when I choose to offload him for a, say, Nani.

Indeed, i had bad luck with my timing in getting Aguero in but I will stick with him. In any given gameweek when they were both fit i'd be much more confident backing him than Silva.

Though I am a massive fan of Silva, and I tend to want to get those players in my team, usually where it goes wrong for me, though I still see that as preferable to cheering on players I dislike.

I went with Rooney & Gabbidon out for Sturridge & Shawcross in the end so gotta consider that a success i think. Was chuffed when i saw the United line up, plus the 2 new boys did their jobs with a goal and clean sheet. Got plenty of money in the bank now to which is a real plus. Had zero flexibility with my team last week.

I couldn't live with telling everybody to get Wilkinson at 4m in case he was rested, but a Stoke def was always good for this week so told some to get Woodgate instead. Worked out exactly the other way around.

Think I talked Anorak into getting Wilkinson - serious flair.

Bargain at that price. I was tempted but i had the money so went for the security (and hopefully BPs) that Shawcross offers. Woodgate is ALWAYS likely to miss the odd game. Just a shame it happened to be a home game where they kept a clean sheet

I'd put Walker and Adebayor up there for me. Not sold on VDV yet this season. I think 'arry is starting to like the look of the Spurs team without him in it.

Where do you expect him to play tomorrow? Obviously if Ade doesn't make it then he'll likely play off Defoe but i can't see Spurs playing him right mid too oftent. Especially away from home

I'm not sold either tbh. Just think there is always the chance for huge scores with him. Greedy bastard.

Have no idea about how Redknapp will reason with him, don't feel I know enough to ground my speculations on anything.

In short I think VDV is wasted when played out wide though, and I would never do it regularly myself.

Yeah i agree. Love a penalty taker too.

Main problem i see is that Spurs have looked a better side when playing 2 up top (Defoe and Adebayor) which really doesn't leave many other places to play him. He's not a box-to-box midfielder and he certainly isn't going to take Modric's place as key creator.

I'm staying clear for now anyway

My thoughts on Suarez. If it can be proved by TV evidence that he was racist towards Evra...throw the book at him and ban him for 3 games.
I'm a LFC fan and I also have him in my team.
If they are serious about this "say no to racism" campaign in football they need to set an example pretty quickly and they will never have a better opportunity than this.

      Moses?!?!
This was his eighth straight blank from great fixtures, don't buy him!

How he keeps being picked in the scout picks week in week out is beyond me!

Well I'm gonna do it (as long as brunt doesn't have a stunner tomorrow).
Brunt has Villa away then Arsenal & Pool, where as moses got easy fixtures.

I'll look a genius or a fool, hopefully a genius when finally a moses shot hits the bar and goes in, then he slides hugo in for an assist and 3bps.

It'd be a right ballache if Suarez misses the Norwich game, hope the allegations are bollocks. I couldn't bear with having to get that big lummox Carroll again after having him at the start of the season.

Incidentally if anyone is a bit of a gamer I've started a new blog at http://ithinkimgettingarthriticthumbs.wordpress.com

I'm new to the whole business so if anyone has any feedback or would like to contribute then email me at the address on the site.

for couple of seasons now he seems to have a run of starts, then disappear, hen get a run of starts, then disappear.
it may not look wise after today seeing as stoke were the only side to keep a clean sheet and he only costs 4 but i really don't like the threat of he likes of huth and wilson.
if you don't have any other 4mil defenders you could probably afford to carry the risk as he should play 90 or 0 but would never call him nailed on

Wilkinson wagon - soon at a trailer park near you.

I would've got him this week if it had not messed up my defence so much for next week. Had to chicken out of it.

      Probably, yes.

1st choice RB, yes but the likes of Shotton & Huth will also play there. It's hard to tell due to Europa League (so possible rotation) - for instance, Woodgate isn't in their EL squad, so will only play PL matches at CB - alongside Shawcross(c), relegating Huth to RB or the bench.

Even Upson started today and not Huth!

Tired now. Off to bed. Looking after my 2 kids all day (wifey working) whilst it rained outside all day was tough work. Mini DVD players FTW! allowing me to watch the footy. Baby number 3 arriving late January will not deter me from my masterplan of winning the whole bloody thing!

One RVP goal tomoro please (c) and a sneaky assist from Brunt and an even sneakier CS from Simpson.

Looks like I've a good chance of 6 wins out of 6 in the FFS H2H reserve league (if Carlsberg did leagues this would be the f***cking hardest league in the world).

Good night all and good luck tomoro.

What are people doing with Bosingwa. I for one am getting incredily impatient with chelsea not keen clean sheets. Total fpl says he will rise soon, so I may chop him after QPR away. What are others doing?

Keeping. Very attacking and good fixtures.

I'm very angry too that he can't get a clean sheet but he's a player I'd never waste a transfer on getting rid of atm

I didnt have him for first 3 games so missed out on his 6,8,9 run, I had Cole then. If he doesnt keep the CS versus QPR then he becomes redundant for me despite his attacking returns.

    Given
    Bosingwa Enrique Simpson
    Silva Mata Nani VDV
    Adebayor Suarez (C) Sturridge
Vorm - Dyer Kompany De Laet
1 F.T, thinking no need to do anything, then when I have 2 frees unload De Laet to anyone
    Suarez better play 🙁

After my opponents killed it in the first few GWs with Aguero and Rooney (had Rooney but didnt captain him for one of his huge hauls I decided the only way to catch the was to go Aguero and Rooney less, 2 weeks in and so far so good, somethings gotta give 😐

and it's rather easy to get Rooney/Aguero/Van Persie back for Suarez/Ade when you have 4 expensive midfielders, just need to downgrade one of them (whoever looks the weakest at the moment) to, say, Ramsey and that's it. Very flexible. Defense looks optimal too (apparently except for de Laet). I really like it.
Good luck, no need for transfers based on current information.

that defence doesnt need changing you can rely on them 4 to rotate for a good period, well I am anyway. I got De Laet but may get rid for Tierney or Barnett, but Norwich are never going to get a CS so will only do that if no pressing changes required. I am looking to bank 2 frees for after the november international break so I would save the transfer.

Yeah at the moment it is fine as Enrique is good for the next three, Kompany good for the games after United and Bosingwa also has decent fixtures so De Laet out is no rush, although its kinda like having Ferguson 😯
