Continuing our series of “Talent” articles for Members, our focus turns to an unlikely source of Fantasy potential, who has only recently blinked on our radars. Newcastle’s Jonas Gutierrez has been a key component in their successful season thus far and, in recent weeks, has done enough to suggest that his game has undergone a transformation.

In this article, we raid the data available to our Members, examining our own ICT Index and the Opta performance statistics, to examine how Gutierrez has suddenly emerged as a Fantasy prospect. Crucially, we also compare him to team-mate Yohan Cabaye, who, up until now, had been considered the weapon of choice in the Magpies midfield.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

yep, it'a a bit different game in the UCL, I didn't account for that, getting defensive midfielders is not such a bad idea there as it is in the FPL. Besides, Aldonin made 2 very dangerous shots, so you might consider yourself unlucky 🙂

Looking ahead a couple weeks, will either of Steven Caulker of Swansea or Zak Whitbread of Norwich become starters when they are healthy? 3.9 defenders are always nice.

I could truly see SAF putting Park out there to bust up the connectivity between Silva and the middle third to final third passing. With Young getting sat vs. Oteul I would imagine he's in the mix. I hope Nani isn't out because although he is extremely wasteful he also creates so many chances it is still more beneficial than any replacement. But be aware he could be sacrificed so SAF can play Rooney, Young, and Chicharito

      VDV, shrewd choice.

Good fixtures ahead, no chance of rotation,as he's not in Europa cup squad.

Nani may not play, as he played CL midweek.

Tell me what you think of my team:

    Given-(Ruddy)
    Kompany-Walker-Jose Enrique- (Simpson) – (Gabbidon)
    Arteta-Ramsey-Silva-Bale (Ferguson)
    Rooney-Suarez -Adebayor

My team misfired last week. At the back I think I’ll stick with Given for a few more weeks. Kompany and Enrique are must keeps, not sure if I made the right decision with bringing Walker in but I’ll stick with him. In midfield Bale has misfired so far but has a good run of fixtures so might stick with him. Thinking of getting rid of Arteta maybe for someone cheaper like Scott Sinclair or Walters. Silva might not score much this week again but not worth transferring him out, Ramsey is a keeper. Up front I’d love Van Persie in my team but can’t drop Adebayor, Suarez has a 3 weeks of good fixtures and Rooney is Rooney, but his form dipped recently. Only option would to swap Rooney for Van Persie and this could be a mistake. My bench is poor, but reluctant to waste transfers on changing them at the moment, Simpson is my first sub and should start for the next few weeks because Santon will be regaining fitness. Any thoughts?

misplaced priorities IMO.. the only player you'd want from arsenal is RVP... you have'nt got him and got arteta and ramsey-- first place you could improve.. same with spurs... only adebayor would do.. i'd get bannan in for arteta and upgrade bale...

Agree with some of this. Only problem is that I have a 3 strong strikers and would hard to take one out for RVP, I think I might eventually swap Suerez in a few weeks for RVP when Liverpool have a tough fixture list (will have to make up the guts of 2.5). Definitely I'm taken Arteta out of the team, if not this week next week. Bannan is a cheap, also thinking Sinclair or Walters. Disagree on Ramsey, he is relatively cheap & is a regular starter for Aresnal. I'll give Bale another few weeks, but if he fails to produce I will consider VDV or Mata

Debating whether to do that or not. After this week when Man utd play Man City, Rooney has a good run of games. Aresnal should beat Stoke, but Stoke can be a difficult team to score against and they have Chelsea the week after.

Agree wit u on Kompany and Enrique, ill prob keep em for the season, but i'd start simpson instead of Kompany (Wig H). Arteta has been poor, Ramsey looks main threat from mid behind rvp so maybe arteta to 6ish mifielder like Walters Sinclair Murphy or Guti, and ugrade Bale to VDV, Mata or Nani. Rooney to RVP is prob the way to go for this week, have perse myself but can see myself swapping him around wit Roonster and Kun all season

Rooney to RVP is too short-term for my taste. Although the dutchman has showed better form lately, United will always produce more chances and so on. Arteta is the man I would trade in that lineup, but would wait till next week and swap him for Walters. That will give you some money to upgrade Ferguson and/or Gabbidon.

Rooney --> Suarez seems a good option actually. Just fed up with having SWP and losing money on Hoolahop, but I'll sort that out next week.
